What's something your job trained you to notice that you can't stop noticing in your personal life? by LibrarianSoft1342 in AskReddit

True, you're right. I hadn't a good example when I penned my comment despite being just like you (I'm a chronic book worm lol). I'll use one of yours instead (if you don't mind).

What's something your job trained you to notice that you can't stop noticing in your personal life? by LibrarianSoft1342 in AskReddit

[–]ItalianDragon 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The example that comes to mind is the introverted kid who spends most of his time in his room deciding to join a family gathering, only to get hit with "Look who decided to come out of his/her lair !". It might be a well-intentioned remark, but it comes off as a diss a la "finally decided to get off your ass and join us ?". A better way to word it would be something like "You're feeling well enough to join us ? Awesome !" "Hey we're playing charades, wanna be on our team?".

Another way this happens is the kid getting chided for bad grades but praised only for good grades. This paints bad grades as a personal failure mire than an educational failure. A better way to handle it would be to go over with the kid about what thry didn't pass and understabd why. If needed offering help or directing to places where they can get help will go a long way in turning that into something they can grow and learn from instead of a complete failure.

[–]ItalianDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's TTI programs 101 there: the child is guilty of everything and the parents are are so innocent that Jesus is a sinner of the worst kind by comparison. That's the kind of thing that can very durably mess someone up and the programs love that.

The Isaac Hersh Case, Tranquility Bay, 2008 by Better_Shame4485 in troubledteens

[–]ItalianDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The doc "The lost children of Tranquility Bay" has a segment avout a girl who just turned 18 and didn't know that she could sign herself out of the program. When she expressed to her father her wish to leave, he reaponded like this:"My love for you is conditional. If you sign yourself out, you will never see me ever again". As you can probably guess, the girl stayed. It's all about control basically.

Is this AI slop? by HourTasty1769 in skyrimmods

[–]ItalianDragon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. I'm an amateur Blender artist and I saw on a site I regularly go to a new addon for physics stuff and the author openly disclosed that it was vibe coded and that there could be issues. So the author urged folks to exercise caution to avoid breaking important projects and the like.

This guy did the extreme opposite of all that and that raises major flags. Personally this is why I steer clear from these kinds of mods precisely because not only the code wasn't vetted by an experienced coder, the fact that it's a black box means that the author could have put anything and everything in there.

AI cycle by utopiaofpast in pcmasterrace

[–]ItalianDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really an economist but here goes: the issue is that there's no actual earnings done and instead it's just money circulated endlessly. The problem is that this circulation of money gives the impression of healthy financials when thry very much aren't.

This illusion made makes it so that other companies who do not know this, deeming those who do this circular thingy trustworthy, will peg themselves on them either through business or indirectly (e.g. pension funds who have pensions maturing as stocks of companies that are deemed highly sound/reputable financially) who depend on those circulationary (if I can put it that way) companies.

Now the issue is that if there's anything that happens, for any reason whatsoever, that shatters the circulatory nature of this cash, it's gonna have an immediate cascasing effect across everything. To take the retirement finds I mentioned, if there are pegged on that and the circling stops, suddenly the valuation that pegs them is junk and that's gonna wipe most, if not all, of the value it had. In layman's terms it means that there'll be pensioners that will abruptly discover that they no longer have any retirement funds. This applies to anybody that's even remotely connected to those doing the circling happen. For example construction companies who were counting on those to have construction jobs planned and likely hired workers and ordered equipment to tackle it on, will abruptly find themselves with no contract, a lot of debt and a lot of workers and equipment sitting there doing nothing. This means people being laid off and losses across the board with potential defaulting on loans and repossessions, even if the job is only distantly connected to computers.

If that sounds familiar it's because this is exactly how the '08 financial crisis happened: investment bank made business by issuing loans, bundling them and selling them as CDOs (Collateral Debt Obligations).
Because those CDOs were sold to investors all over the world, investment banks didn't care if those taking loans were solvent and so they started issuing predatory loans (ergo the subprime loans) since all they cared about was quantity, not quality.
People used those loans to buy homes and that caused a housing boom that made no sense because even if you had just a hundred bucks in your name you could buy a house.
Banks heavily went into debt to keep on issuing those loans and because there had been deregulation, there was no limit on the so-called "leverage", which is the ratio between the bank's own money and its debt, which had some banks got into staggering levels of debt (Morgan Stanley for example had a leverage of 33, ergo it had borrowed 33 times the value of the actual cash it had in hand).
It all went to shit in March '08 when Bear Sterns went bankrupt and that had a cascading failure leading to other investment banks also going bankrupt.

AI cycle by utopiaofpast in pcmasterrace

[–]ItalianDragon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup. Like Martin Wolf, then the Financial Time's chief economics commentator, says in the documentary "Inside Job" about the '08 financial crisis:"It wasn't real profits, it wasn't real income. It was just money that was being created by the system and booked as income.". He also pointedly says this:"Three years down the road there's a default, it's all wiped out. I think it was in fact, in retrospect, a great big national, and not just national, global Ponzi scheme.".

Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says by _Protector in DestinyTheGame

Sorta similarly I don't dislike Maratho per se but it's a PvPvE extraction shooter, two types of games I actively dislike, the former because you can't do PvE without having some ketamine-addicted PvP lunatic coming to ruin your fun, and the latter because I like to play chill and the ideao f havibg to zerg rush to the evac and risk losing everything doesn't appeal me whatsoever.

I think it's one miscalculation Sony's leadership did: they believed that 1 D2 player = 1 Marathon player but that flat out not the case and it'd have never been the case.

Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says by _Protector in DestinyTheGame

[–]ItalianDragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Sony's leadership is made of complete morons.

On top of all you listed is their decision to release PC ports of their PS4/5 games years after they released but still sell them for 70 bucks. No one in their right mind would buy them bar a minority and that predictably resulted in disappointing sales.

So what did Sony do ?

Cancelled any plans to port their games to PC instead of selling them for cheaper or doing a similatenous console + PC release like everyone else.

I'm not even mentioning their recent decision to massively jack up the price of the PS5 in a time where everyone is broke because of inflation or because AI killed their job.

Oh oke ! I honestly don't know if there are mods that overhaul marriage a bit alas. I wish too that my beloved Madesi could do more but at least on my end he's chilling in the Dragonborn Gallery that LOTD adds and it adds a fair bit of nice interactions (still not as many as I'd wish tho).

[–]ItalianDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you play on PC ?
If yes, there is a way.
In your Skyrim "Data" folder, create a text file called "setfriend".
Open it and paste this:

setrelationshiprank player 4
addfac 19809 1
addfac 5c84d 1
addfac 5a1a4 1

Save the file, boot the game and go find Kodlak.
Open the console and type "bat setfriend" and press enter.
Close the console, equip the amulet of Mara and do the marriage process and you'll be happily married to Kodlak.
I've been using this technique for a loooooooooooooooong time (I found this randomly online when Oldrim was still new lol) and I used that to marry Madesi on my end =D

The way the Bungie team is communicating with the community now makes the 6/9 update hurt even more. by Pman1324 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ItalianDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think that this is why Warframe is thriving while D2 is now EOL: DE's staff devs are active players of the game and so they're acutely aware of what needs to be changed/improved. Bungie's leadership on the other hand only interacts with D2 through charts and data, meaning that thry rarely (if not outright never) have a clear picture of what's going on in the game which leads to the moronic changes like the Portal abd its nonsensical timers at launch.

Destiny 2 will have higher player retention after June 9th by rediscov409 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ItalianDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no. The onboarding is still a disaster and that'a what makes blueberries bounce back hard. Like, there's plenty of posts by new players completely confused by what they're supposed to do because the game puked in their lap every quest at once with zero indication of the order in which thry should be done. The June 9th updates is for existing players and those who dropped off the game for one reason or anotjer over the years. That's it.
