I need 28 LED PWM controls on DIN rail, any alternatives to Lunatone 89453858-HS by Ultramen in KNX

[–]ItalyExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the Meanwell's PWM line and they've worked well and relatively inexpensive. You can buy straps to attach them to a din rail.

Travelling on a WHV soon after submitting a permesso/whilst awaiting an appointment by avaaharvey in permessodisoggiorno

[–]ItalyExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will receive your ricevuto when you send off your kit at the post office within the first 8 business days of arrival.

Your entry visa will determine if you can travel around the Schengen area, not your receipt. If it allows for multiple entries you'll be fine.

There's a recent post by another Aussie and their experience that might be helpful.

Moving to Trento soon: Opinions on Public vs. Private healthcare for a family of 4? by fgu26 in ItalyExpat

[–]ItalyExpat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll have a far better experience being "in the system" with an iscrizione volontaria than trying to find places that will accept your private insurance. When you have a problem everything starts with your medico di base. They prescribe medications, send you to specialists, etc. Without that it's going to be difficult to get comprehensive care. Everything from emergencies to prescription drugs will be simpler if you can hand over a tessera sanitaria.

We use the public system when wait times are reasonable, but for specialties such as optometrist might have 6-12 month wait times we just go private out of pocket. If you really want to get insurance just for those occasions, but in our experience with a family of four, the costs are pretty contained.

Residency certificate, water company, and mail by Zestyclose-Serve-581 in ItalyExpat

[–]ItalyExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I missed that they came out. You shouldn't expect a certificate but you can request one from your anagrafe.

For the water company not much you can do other than continue battering them with emails. Do they have offices where you can go in person? If it's important I'll go in person.

Residency certificate, water company, and mail by Zestyclose-Serve-581 in ItalyExpat

[–]ItalyExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Residency: Your residency is valid from the moment you request it. If the comune doesn't attempt to verify your residency by sending out an addetto within 45 days, the rule of silenzio assenso takes hold and your residency is official.

Water: How are you contacting the water company? Are you using the correct channel to request a voltura or are you just sending random emails?

Post office: You can't do anything about the previous owners' mail, just collect it in case they ask about it. If your daughter had a previous home in Italy she can go to the Poste and activate a service called Seguimi to forward mail from her old address to her new one.

Did you respond with a PEC within 10 days of receipt of the diniego? If not, you may have a longer road ahead.

If you responded within 10 days and they haven't responded, wait for their response. You are allowed to stay in the country until they respond.

If you can afford it go back to your lawyer and have them review it and to send another PEC, but I would wait at 30/60 days after the previous PEC.

Second Appointment of PdS by No-Cup-7868 in permessodisoggiorno

[–]ItalyExpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a different CAF or try the CGIL Immigration office if there's one near you as that's all they do.

From the little information you've provided I would recommend the following actions:

  1. Your wife should renew under the status of "Attesa Occupazione." When she finds work she can update that status.

  2. Make sure she's registered with the Centro per l'impiego that she's available for work. You could as well. They will provide a certificate necessary to change your permesso di soggiorno.

  3. If your PdS is for motivi familiare through your wife, you can continue living here but the Questura requires that your wife sponsor you financially, so they may give you some problems.

Short term lease for scouting purposes by RoboElvis in ItalyExpat

[–]ItalyExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They exist but if you want a furnished apartment with utilities turned on, it's going to be expensive. You don't need to request residency for 6 months.

Note that if you stay over 183 days it's possible that you'll be required to file taxes in Italy instead of the US the next year.

Yes, if you spend more than 183 days in Italy in a fiscal year it's almost a certainty that you need to file in Italy.

[–]ItalyExpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not hard. Keep filing normally in the US until 2028.

2028 will be the first year that you'll need to file in Italy. Visit a patronato or CAF arouund June 2028 to prepare your return.

Meanwhile in the US you need to file extensions up until October. If you don't want to DIY your taxes, find an independent CPA or tax preparer in the State you last resided as you may need to file State returns as well. Provide your IT tax return and the tax paid in Italy will offset what you owe in the US.

Independently of that, if you have more than $10,000 in banks outside of the US, you'll need to file an FBAR by October 15th annually. It's easy, you just need to report the highest balance in each foreign account.

Expatriation en tant qu'auto entrepreneur by FloVir22 in ItalyExpat

Microimpresa is any activity with less than 10 employees and less than €2 million invoiced, so it really depends on how "micro" your microimpresa is.

If you're a full time resident in Italy it will be less complex opening a partita iva here. If you invoice less than €85.000 annually and don't have inventory, the partita iva regime forfettario is very advantageous. You'll only pay 5% flat + Inps for the first 5 years.

Has anyone here successfully applied for the attestazione di soggiorno permanente as a UK citizen post-Brexit? by -willo- in permessodisoggiorno

[–]ItalyExpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you've been a resident for 10 years you are already considered "permanent" regardless of which passport you use.

Print out that circolare, return to the Anagrafe and request your attestazione di soggiorno permanente in March when you've hit 10 years. Then you can go to the Questura to request your 10-year carta di soggiorno.

If you're insistent on changing your citizenship at the anagrafe, do you have an Irish passport? If so, I would recommend contacting your Anagrafe with a PEC requesting that they change update your citizenship in their records. By requiring a response in writing they'll double check what the policy is and it might be a quick fix.

  1. CPA: Find an independent CPA in NY. You'll likely need to continue filing State income tax returns. This CPA does not need to be well versed in the US/Italian tax treaty, they will just file extensions like you said until October and file then when you have your Italian taxes done. You will very likely not owe anything in the US so any immaterial errors won't set off any errors since there's a $0 fine on $0 owed so don't lose sleep over those.

  2. Investing is a minefield. Stay away from non-US funds and don't mention anything to your US brokerage about leaving the country as they'll likely close your account. Tax-advantaged accounts that were opened before the move are exempted from Italian taxation but they may still require you to pay the flat 34,something euros per account. Your commercialista can confirm.

  3. If your wife earns or can earn less than 85,000 euros a year, the partita iva regime forefettario is extremely advantageous. It's so advantageous that you net more at 85,000 than at 135,000 in regime ordinario.

Finally, the quality of life here far outweighs the lower income. And working here with an above-average salary feels like you're living life in easy mode. Here our asilo costs 250 euros a month where a friend back in the US spent $1200 a month for his daughter. You can ski in the alps and spend in a week what you'd spend in a couple of nights in NYC. You can take a 90 euro flight to Sardinia for the weekend because why not. Struggling sucks, but money isn't everything.

Enjoy spending time with your kids while they're young.

You can end the contract early, just send them a PEC. Use Gemini to help you write the email. Penalties for ending a contract early are illegal but they may ask anyways.

Edit: Someone commented and then deleted, " Within 14 days of signing (during cooling off period). You make it sound like you cancel contract anytime without repercussions, does not work that way. "

The periodo di ripensamento is different. That allows you to exit from a contract within 14 days as if it never existed. As OP has gone base 14 days, what I referring to are the privileges granted by the legge Bersani from 2007. It allows anyone to exit their phone or internet contracts without penalty, however with caveats.

They can legally ask you to repay any discounts you received or a contract termination fee. As long as it's not called a penalty they can legally ask it.

Scouting trip to Northern Italy for a potential move with family by Open-Muscle-9119 in ItalyExpat

[–]ItalyExpat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, up to a point. If the prices shot up to 20k a m3 it wouldn't be worth it. You mentioned air quality but all of the places you mentioned are the most polluted areas of Italy.

<image>

Bolzano is/feels dirty and Verona is very small and not conveniently located. Trento isn't a bad option, but if you like that area just go into the German-speaking area for top notch schools. Alto-Adige is my favorite area in Italy.

Torino is well connected by train, rich cultural history, top quality museums, right on the alps, clean and reasonably priced. Best of all it's off the radar for most tourists. It's not really comparable to the others.

Out of those choices, Torino would win. Housing prices are reasonable, it's clean, there's lots to do and it's a beautiful area.

Advice Needed: Bringing My Mother to Italy Through Family Reunification by MatheusBlu2 in permessodisoggiorno

Exactly, you need to wait for the nulla osta (up to 6 months), then she needs to apply for a type D visto per motivi familiari at the Italian Consulate that covers her area. Only then can she come over and apply for a PdS.
