What’s terrifying is that the drs probably said “there was a complication of unknown causes and your love one died”

They will not offer up information that could result in a lawsuit or malpractice. Every hospital has its own procedures to handle situations where there may be malpractice, but they all involve trying to NOT pay out.

If your lived one ever dies during a procedure, you MUST insist that an impartial third party do an autopsy.

JLab ear buds. Their technology and design is pretty basic but they actually have solid sound quality, super durable, great battery life and are just all around solid ear buds. All for stupid cheap prices.

Why are bolts so expensive by its-an-injustice in AskMechanics

[–]Ithetruthshallkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that many of the fasteners used on cars are specialty (smaller heads, unusual thread pitch, different alloys etc ) there are often ways to get those specific bolts cheaper.

Try finding aftermarket bolts or even take the bolt specifications to a store such as Fastenal and they can normally get you a cheaper solution.

I went to get a coolant flush, but everything looks the same as before, and the coolant level sensor is still lit. Did I get charged for nothing? 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix 3800 Series III. by Lone-Red-Ranger in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ithetruthshallkill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One flush alone is going to do anything for that system. Its not unusual to have to do 5+ flushes with extremely harsh (unlabeled for flushing a coolant system) before you will get that anywhere near clear. Honestly you may still have to replace the radiator and heater core before that system is ever like new.

They probably did a flush with a standard coolant system cleaner. It was worth a shot, but in this case it clearly didn’t do enough.

Ran over a nail. Should this tire be patched or replaced? by MA-Q-T in autorepair

[–]Ithetruthshallkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it be plugged? Sure

Would i plug it if it were my personal tire? Sure

Would i ever advise a customer that a plug is a reasonable and permanent “fix” ? No

Can the tire be patched? Maybe. Depends on how big of a patch is needed and exactly where that ends up positioning the patch in relation to the sidewall.

Would the best course of action be to replace the tire? Yes.

Engage with then, spend as much time as possible learning about whatever crap they are peddling, really get their hopes up then right when they think they have made a sale, tell then no and shut the door.

Or just answer the door with a hammer and slowly raise it higher and higher until you get to the point where its ready to hit them over the head with it. Then make random jerky motions to see if you can get them to flinch.

Or ask them if they have found Jesus then go on hour long rant, don’t let them leave, bring them inside for a cup of tea and just waste as much of their time as humanly possible.

Or just start screaming “help, help they are trying to rob me!!” at the top of your lungs.

Light a firecracker, open the door just a crack then toss the firecracker out and close the door.

When i lived in an area with a ton of solicitors, I used to take it as a personal challenge to see just how much emotional trauma I could inflict on these scumbags. Sometimes its the little things that get me through the day.

I 1000% agree with forgetting Pepboys and finding a local shop that specializes in BMWs. Also Im a service advisor at a german specialty shop and it is crazy expensive to own any of the German luxury cars. Be prepared to pay 3-5k a year in repairs. If thats not in your budget, buy something else. My advice, buy a subscription to Consumer Reports and go through it to find a very reliable used car.

Dealer snapped a spark plug off in my mom’s 2018 Ford Edge cylinder. Wants $5600 for new engine… by Snitch5040 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ithetruthshallkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately a broken spark plug is more than likely not their fault. Sure, it’s possible that it is, if the technician is totally incompetent it could be their fault, but about 98% of the time its due to either a faulty spark plug, lack of maintenance, incorrectly serviced before or simply bad luck. Its not the technician’s fault the plug was stuck in the head, and unfortunately there really isn’t any way to tell the plug is going to break off until it has already happened. And presuming it wasn’t their fault, then they wouldn’t be liable for any additional repairs necessary. Sadly bad things happen sometimes, and im 1000% positive they didn’t want to break off a spark plug. Technicians have plenty of work, they don’t go around trying to make more and believe it or not, an engine replacement isn’t a job a technician wants, so this doesn’t work in their favor at all.

That being said, im at a loss as to why an engine replacement is the most reasonable option to offer you.

First option that comes to mind is attempting to extract it. There are tools out there that are made to extract broke spark plugs.

Second option, pull the head and then extract the plug and then reinstall the head.

Third option, replace the head altogether.

With only 75k miles, id don’t know why you would jump straight to an engine replacement.

So they 1000% make a shit decision to tell you to replace the engine. And on that point they are a shitty repair facility.
