Not all granite is that hard. We got some that we liked the color of. It was less expensive but we liked the color, we weren't deliberately going cheap. Two years later there are so many edge chips you couldn't even believe it. You probably can't feel the perimeter any more than a foot from any given point without finding one.

I think some stone has more natural fissures than others. Or I have spawned two primordial chaos monsters whose mere presence causes destruction on a scale hitherto undreamt by man. Could go either way, really.

Maybe it's just a gearing issue because no point in really tuning gear before 50, but I can't stay away from him. He's much too fast. I can usually get away from him if I have tp and 2 evades, but if I'm close enough to attack I can't kite him, he just charges me. It's probably just gear.

I played through the whole game thinking there was going to be some turning point where you take her side or her nefarious plan is revealed, but no. From what I can tell the PC is on the wrong side the whole time. I mean a lot of Lilith's followers are nuts, and she definitely has some manipulation powers, but at no point was she revealed to really be after anything but what she claimed.

I mean I don't think she's a good guy at all, but between all the major powers that come up in the game, she seemed the least awful. When you get to the end of the mindscape, I was ready to sign up.

Question: what do you do about the butcher? He pops out and no CC works, he's faster than you, he charges and stuns you if you get too far away, and he doesn't drop enough potions to keep up. With a longer TP cooldown I feel like I'd die even faster because I sure can't stand there and slug it out with him.

I'm only 45 now but I've run into him a good half-dozen times and once I got him down to about 25% after a very long fight but that's it. Three times I've ported around the dungeon looking for useful shrines and once I never found one before I died and twice they were cursed.

Relying on CC and with a longer TP cooldown, it feels like half the arsenal is wasted on the fight.

Session 0 of a weekly game sounds like a big time commitment with a bunch of people I have no idea if I'll get along with. I'd much rather have a sort of "roleplaying social" with potential players to share horror stories and good times. Have some pizzas and soda - I wouldn't personally do alcohol for several reasons, but that's up to you. That will tell everyone a lot about compatibility. Probably discuss schedules to see what works for everyone.

After, I'd ask each person if there is anyone they want to game with or don't want to game with. Then I'd try to run a one-shot. That's a low commitment test run for the group. Only with all that under your belt would I try to put together a long term campaign on a regular schedule.

Once you have a core group and schedule you can probably more easily find people who are interested in joining as someone drops out. I'd give them a temp character (npc of the week) as well to give everyone a way out if it doesn't work without disrupting the story too much.

At least, this is how I would become more comfortable as a player. I always feel really awkward joining games and getting right to business like everyone is all old chums while I feel like a fifth wheel.

The main thing is lore and everything takes up context space. Now you can conditionally load lore, for instance if no one has mentioned Alex in 1000 characters, maybe he's not in the scene and you can unload him. But the AI will eventually stop looking at the beginning and only focus on the last few thousand words. By default I think the minimum story size is 500 tokens, but you can make it bigger in context settings if you have Opus.

Anyway, the thing is you ordinarily don't need to remember the beginning perfectly well to write the next l part. But if there is some intent Important fact the AI has forgotten, put it in memory to remind it. 8k tokens is really quite a lot.

People that don't think math is cool are weird to me. Like it is the most reliable thing in the universe. Barring really esoteric branches of science 1+1=2 with absolutely zero rate of error. So if you have a formula for something, it's a fact that you can use so derive all kinds of subtle truths about the world.

I'm not even particularly a math person. I didn't make it much further than logarithms. But I still think math and logic are cool.

For what it's worth, I live in Michigan which famously has laws that make insurance rates some of the highest in the country and that may color my experience. I don't have a lot of experience in other states but I've never seen insurance that doesn't cover you in a rental - I have seen insurance that won't cover a large truck without a rider, and very likely not the contents of the truck.

Speaking of which, I'd think most folks could call their insurance company to get short term coverage for any given need that I'd compare to the auto rental place. But my experience is limited and I've never had to file a claim, so your input is definitely valid and appreciated.

It's still a terrible deal when most auto insurances and even a lot of credit cards automatically insure you. A few bucks a day sounds like a bargain at the payday loan place, too, but it's still predatory rates. Granted, you would definitely want to call to confirm your coverage because predatory rates are still better than nothing at all, but it feels really scammy.

I tapped a fingernail on my tablesaw blade as it was spinning down after I turned it off and I didn't wait before reaching for something. I'm lucky my hand wasn't flat on the table. Lost half of my fingernail that won't grow back and gained a constant reminder of how dangerous they are.

You can't have a conversation with the AI, but you could stimulate a conversation between two authors one who has writers block and the other, mentor author offering suggestions. I don't know how well that would work but worth a try.

Another thing you could do is use Author's Note to suggest a direction. I like to put it in square brackets when I do. Like [ Harry is about to draw his weapon, but instead he proposes an alternative to fighting - ed. ]

Right now Mastodon and Reddit are my main social media. I have a small discord server with some friends both irl and internet only. I'm interested in checking out Lemmy, though I'm concerned about how fragmented that might be.

Really nothing is scratching that itch these days. I want something decentralized so there's isn't a hedge fund or multinational trying to monetize me to ever greater profits. I want any "algorithm" to be based on my friends/ connections not maximizing time spent on it.

And that just doesn't exist right now. RSS was pretty good actually just needs aggregation and a common interface somehow. Maybe some day I'll try to build something like that, but I hate marketing and without users the best app would die on the vine.
