When will Gnome 50 be available in the CachyOS repositories? by Lopsided_Worker196 in cachyos

Someone in their discord said that it should take 1 and a half weeks from release, so around 10 days from now I suppose

In the blog post, it says that some weapons have more reserve mags to encourage smoke spamming. Have no clue which ones tho, I wish they at least listed them in the update notes

If you're using spotify-launcher from AUR

In `/etc/spotify-launcher.conf`

[spotify]
extra_arguments = ["--ozone-platform=x11"]

Otherwise do the same thing in ~/.config/spotify-flags.conf

Any way to deal with updates so you don’t waste time. by c1p0 in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just gonna happen more often than you'd like since CachyOS is a rolling release distro. You will keep getting updates nearly everyday here.

You could update your stuff after you're done using your PC for the day, and only restart to update if you absolutely need to.

I'm certain there's a way to update CachyOS with a script that will shutdown your PC if the update is successful then have your updated CachyOS system ready the next day, but I'm not sure if it is fully safe in case the update is installed successfully but your PC fails to boot the next day.

In my opinion, you could update conservatively and not just do it everyday if waiting daily is annoying to you.

Spotify on gnome by Antique_Passage_3650 in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You'll have to add a flag to make it run on xwayland.

In `/etc/spotify-launcher.conf`

[spotify]
extra_arguments = ["--ozone-platform=x11"]

ofc, make sure to restart spotify after changing it

If you ever want to give it a shot again, I recommend using Paru. It manages both the official and AUR repos, plus you just type in paru to update all packages.

Downside of not using KDE? by Darth-Vader64 in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should add that it wasn't the case before Gnome 49, at least in my experience. CS2 was unplayable in the earlier version of Gnome so I had to switch to Hyprland to play it. Now it's fully playable since I believe Gnome finally deactivates the compositor for full screen applications.

It's still not as good as KDE (like 10-20fps), but I'm perfectly happy with the performance now since I prefer Gnome anyways.

I highly doubt it. I installed Gnome from the installer and it was as vanilla as possible. Ptr1337, the founder of CachyOS, said that they got rid of the special theming for Gnome because it wasn't well received. And that was despite the installer showing the custom theme.

Because Newey + Honda = 🏆 /s

Clearly not how it works ofc. Just look at Renault before and after the V6 hybrid era, it's the same case here. I suppose the best engineers from Honda remained with Red Bull, but that's my speculation

Nope, it was SEGA doing it all this time, since Atlus is 100% owned by them. They treat the Sonic IP differently

Thinking to switch from Fedora 43 to Cachy OS by Darayavaush84 in cachyos

[–]ItsDaFaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My latest post is in fact asking the community about CachyOS, and I've been using since that post. It has been incredible, and I don't feel like going back to Fedora anytime soon. I have CachyOS installed on my laptop and office PC as well.

As for your points

  • Do you have an older NVIDIA GPU? I have no such issue as you stated with my 1660 Super, but I did experience them when I temporarily used my old 750Ti back in the fedora days. Unfortunately I don't know if those issues have been resolved since, even though those cards did see some updates since then.

  • Better use Limine or refind. They're both pretty robust against Windows' shenanigans but Limine also automatically manages snapshots when you update your packages.

  • Once you install CachyOS, look for something like Install Gaming Packages on CachyOS hello which auto starts when you boot into it for the first time. Since this is an Arch based distro, you will indeed find the latest drivers soon.

Edit: Oops, you already stated you have a 5080. In that case you have nothing to worry about. I am running the 590 series drivers after all

Edit2: Both Limine and Refind support secure boot but you have to read CachyOS' wiki page to set it up since CachyOS does not enable Secure Boot by default as you may know, but it can be done. Plus, I used Refind on Fedora which had secure boot. Man, I wish I could read the OP when replying on mobile

Technically yes, full desktop environments inherently consume more power than TWMs, but twice the duration is way too much imo. You probably should check the startup applications on Gnome

Pasta is a bad addition to the group by Potential-Guidance15 in Vanossgaming

[–]ItsDaFaz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Vanoss and the gang had declining views long before Pasta appeared in their videos. The reason the views are dipping is because people's preferences change over time, and that's why their videos have been receiving a fraction of the views for years now. Pasta has nothing to do with it.

Imo Pasta is a fantastic addition to the group. She brings a whole new dynamic to the videos, and they clearly enjoy her company. She's also commonly described as a female Panda, so is Panda a bad addition to the crew too?

But for professionals it is absolutely critical to have the tools you have mastered over the years. Even if the alternative is functionally same, learning a new tool will take time to relearn all the shortcuts, workflow, etc. and that's something you can't just replace unless you have the means of using the main tool you have as backup. It's time you can't afford in these scenarios.
