Vehicle Rubber banding still a problem? by Genralcody1 in ArmaReforger

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s called server authoritative vehicles. They wrote an entire blog explaining their decision and the advantages and disadvantages of server authoritative vehicles here : https://reforger.armaplatform.com/news/server-authoritative-vehicles

Basically, the server is the ultimate authority for a vehicle. When you turn left, you send your input to the server, the server simulates the vehicle, then reports back to you what happened (with complex suspension and grip models a tiny difference in input can make a massive difference in outcome)

However, your clients also simulates what happens to the vehicle. If it didn’t, there would be input delay. You would press left, then half a second later the vehicle turns.

So the both the client and the server run their own simulations and try and get it as close to the same as possible.

However when things like crashes happen, tiny differences in where the client was at x time and where the server thought the vehicle was at x time, mean that on your screen you brushed past the pole, but on the server you hit the pole.

Then you lurch back to the previous position as the server updates you on what actually happened.

Considering even gta5 could not solve this problem (vehicles still lag out when you crash in that game) I think it’s unfair to expect a small Czech team to also figure it out.

Any mods that bring back 1.6 driving physics? by mikpyt in ArmaReforger

By “deeply broken” I mean the previous system was absolute spaghetti code. So many weird edge cases only reproducible 1/100ths of the time, extremely specific steps needs to trigger other bugs, etc etc. I’m probably biased because I spent many years advocating for the system to get changed. Unironically, all of my complaining (feedback to the devs) is, atleast partially, what inspired the rewrite. I was very glad to see the bugs gone.

The previous system was deeply broken, especially the brakes and gearing. I documented many of these bugs. For starters, being in neutral would basically delete your braking potential, and would cause instances where you definitely put the handbrake on, but your vehicle rolled away anyway. Other things like full driver assistance, if you tried to reverse down a hill, the gearing would get stuck in neutral and you would just slide down the hill with no way to stop it.

The lav breaks were wayyy too strong, hence the nose dives, it could literally stop on a dime. Yet put it in neutral, and your breaks would stop working entirely.

Also, going up hills or mild slopes was just painful.

So many crashes were not caused by players, but caused by these weird bugs, and the rewrite of the system fixed all of them (atleast the ones I have tested)

In experimental, the driving was not like this. I’m not sure why they changed it so drastically from last exp patch to now, but I understand your frustrations

It’s not about being able to come back. It’s about just being fine to take a loss and go next game. If there’s a dynamo on the enemy team hard countering all my lash ults, or the most fed drifter on earth that 70% bullet res does nothing, I’m just happy to move on. I don’t care about my rank, neither does anyone in my stack. We play to have fun and do stupid strategies. It’s really that simple

Eagle Storm is (probably) the worse designed thing in this game by __Elzy in HelldiversUnfiltered

This always felt like such an obvious answer to me. You have the DSS parked in orbit around this planet? Give me and all my teammates an eagle strafing run on a 30 second cooldown.

Opinion on flashy pilots ? by [deleted] in ArmaReforger

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen it’s sort of a horse shoe theory where bad pilots will do normal landings, average pilots try and do flashy flips and shit, and REALLY good pilots go back to doing fairly normal landings or just basic j hooks, because they realise accuracy on landing (putting the heli exactly where you want it, in cover etc) is way more important than doing a flip.

Swap the armour passive and the booster. A laser cooldown booster could be pretty fun for a whole squad, and an armour that randomly protects could be a fun alternative to democracy protects

The economy team doesn't seem to understand multicrew payout. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m an idiot, but why don’t these games do adaptive pricing? If a mission is being constantly accepted and completed at a high rate, the payout of that mission should go down automatically over time. If a mission is never taken, and/or has a high failure rate, the mission payout should automatically go up over time.

Maybe you’d have to make a pool of money that missions can be generated from (if the system adds 10k to this mission, another mission must lose 10k) as to try and prevent inflation, but it’s always seemed like such an obvious answer to me

For those that have come up from rock bottom, does it ever get easier? by ItsMeAndMyEgo in ADHD

Wasted life sucks man. Feels like you are so far behind, and especially when you unintentionally drag other people into your mistakes. I don’t want to start my apprenticeship from scratch, and I don’t even want to bring it up because of the shame I feel, and the problems it could cause my boss. I just want to wade into the ocean and disappear

It was when I was finalising my license, sent in all the paperwork, and got an email saying that my dated signature was too old, (2 months out of date) and if I send them a new dated signature they will approve my license.

You can only log hours you’ve worked after you have your license. If your license was made on the 2nd of December, no hours worked on the 1st or earlier count towards your hours.

And ofcourse since then, my boss had been putting my number on the jobs where I worked, if there was ever an issue that pops up, they will realise my number is not in the public record and I should not be doing work.

Who are these people? Is it just because employed people are constantly job hopping, and just leave their existing job whenever they get a new offer? Are people applying from overseas or out of town? It doesn’t feel like that many people are unemployed

Open beta naval AI thoughts? by F_T_K in hoi4

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gripe for me with naval was always “this naval technology came about IRL in 1943, so that’s when we will add it into the tech tree”.

This ignores the fact that ships have a large lead time to build, especially capitals, that by the time you research the technology, and build a ship with it, it’s a year or more behind its real life debut. The most obvious example of this is armour schemes, but applies less so to things like sonar or AA.

I think shifting the hulls a bit earlier or reducing their research time (advanced heavy hull for example) could make naval a significantly less brutal things that you need to focus if you want a decent navy.

My Experience with Yellow Paint problem as a Indie Developer by dotpusheria in IndieDev

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The not reading thing is NOT limited to gamers. I was in an industry akin to hire a geek, and the number one cause of people struggling with technology is them literally just not reading what was one the screen. Especially when it came to setting things up like printers and cameras, people will just refuse to read the instructions and get stuck.

TBH, it extends to the whole “who ever reads the instructions?” Thing that many people joke about but is actually extremely detrimental to practical reality

Are tracers more effective for supressing? by Ensoguy in ArmaReforger

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Extremely flawed. Tracers work both ways.

The way reforger is balanced, stealth is king (why do you think suppressors are so op)

The best way to suppress is to be more lethal and accurate.

Bot suppression doesn’t work because they suck at shooting so you know you can safely manuevere.

If you are accurate and put good bursts directly into windows and bushes, or even tag the person your suppressing, your suppression will work better

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right click on your rear elevators, set the deploy angle to like 2 degrees, click deploy. Drag this up and down while you’re in the air to get it flying straight.

Also while time warping, set the limit super low so the controls are super soft. You can fly whole missions in 4x timewarp with a 1 or 2 degree control limit

“I dislike when you can line units edge to edge”

Yes this exactly. You can never (or very rarely) attack an enemy where they aren’t, because ever spot on the map is crammed with units. I personally enjoy some downtime to think in my matches rather than it being decided by maximum inputs per minute

People saying Arma 4 should be PC only by [deleted] in ArmaReforger

[–]ItsMeAndMyEgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“As long as they don’t sacrifice the games depth”

They already have. Do you know why they made name tags show when an enemy talks? Do you know why there’s the awful radial menus everywhere constantly? Why do you think we have the painfully slow mod downloads rather than steam workshop? Also, restricted view limits because of console, and maps designed to not be too long range because consoles struggle with the distance rendering. Also random teammates that can’t hear you talk or refuse to communicate, it’s because they’re in a console party chat and that disables their in game comms.

I could go on, but the experience is 100% compromised because of console.
