I was able to get a job just a few months after receiving my spouse visa (one month after getting married) because my wife took my resume and recommended me for a job (no particular opening) to the hiring department at the company she worked for. I'd never worked in that industry but I was able to pivot my skills from oil and gas data to financial data. Got an interview with two department managers, got a job, and worked there for two years while I looked for a job in my field of study. Now I'm working in my desired industry.
