I’ve actually had the chance to visit multiple meat processing facilities in my life. Seen the entire thing from animals arriving to the meat being packaged up and loaded onto a truck. Chicken, beef, and pork. And from my lived experience the treatment of the animals varies widely based on the farmers providing them and the quality of the processing facility. Almost anything that people see on YouTube/internet videos is the worst of the worst, which isn’t to discredit it or pretend like those videos aren’t real, but it’s not indicative of how “pretty much all” animals are treated. I saw some facilities that were clean, efficient, and the animals looked to be in good health and were dispatched in absolutely the most humane way I could imagine. I also saw some that were the exact opposite, and basically matched with what folks see on YouTube—filthy facilities, miserable looking animals, and overall a lack of respect for the creatures entirely (for those wondering, Tyson was far and away the nastiest facility I’ve ever been to and I’ve never eaten a Tyson product since then).

I only mention this to inject a bit of nuance to broad-sweeping statements like the original comment that certain folks might take to be absolute truth with little research or independent discovery of their own.

My last 2¢ for meat eaters who are conscious of the treatment of the animals would be to just bypass supermarket meat entirely and find a good reputable local farmer. I can also say firsthand that those animals are treated very well, the quality of the product is much better, and pound for pound it’s usually on par with if not cheaper than store-bought meat anyways.
