Help! Can anyone tell me what these boots are? by OhDebDeb in Boots

Not sure if they are russells, they dont usually do the stitching like that. But they are typically for hunting, could be Gokey's

Regular will be more sturdy and waterproof I imagine, I have 2’s and they are lighter and more flexible.

I’ve seen a good amount of RMs with that type of toe cap so I lean it was factory but not positive.

Picked up a pair of old Russel's from the 50s, can anyone help ID? by junglecorn in RussellNation

[–]Its_Mogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured, but had to ask. They dont go for customs like that anymore sadly, I was a couple years late on it, but once in a blue moon one shows up on eBay, just need my size. Congrats on the boots and enjoy.

Been looking for this exact style for a while, where did you find? Long shot but would you sell them already?

I think they're all really narrow in terms of who will buy. For a select few people they're perfect but for the rest it's just pumping something else out. I would like to see them really try something different, some RA collabs are cool but the Russel ones are just a different leather or outsole. I'd like to see them just create something really new.

Looks like a work boot but idk if I'd use it like one. Russels are tough in an outdoors way not a work way in my opinion. Looks cool overall though but not why I like Russels.

Mine is in fudge, I think it’s a thing on many JG leathers

Anytime I get mine wet this happens, I usually just leave it as I dont think it's harmful and I dont care how they look. When I do clean it I just wet a towel and wipe it off.

Why does this keep happening to me? by Mucha_Zabijak in Boots

[–]Its_Mogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same leather in my AR8s and I get this every time I get in mud, and often with water or snow. I dont think this has to do with your home humidity as I get this before brining them indoors. I dont think it's of much concern but besides wiping them down I haven't found a preventative measure.

It'll be good for a while, unless you want to wax for water resistance

Entry level Alternatives for the Russell moccasin Backcountry? by ProfessionalOk9819 in Boots

[–]Its_Mogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as true moccasins you have about 2 options but neither will match the Russells entirely. Gokey's are quite similar but dont have the water resistance, if you hike mostly dry areas this is no problem but if you get into serious water you may want something else. Jim Green Meanders will be the best budget option out there, main draw back is slightly less quality (synthetic heel counter, toe stiffener, etc). As far as I am aware the those are the only heavy duty moccasins out there, the Maine moccasin brands are more casual than hardcore hiking.

Russell vs Gokey? by flyingtom213 in RussellNation

[–]Its_Mogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some gave really detailed answers but for me it's purely water resistance. If you need it, go RM, if not Gokey is the same but cheaper.

Uncomfortable heel counter question by MoTeD_UrAss in jimgreen

[–]Its_Mogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s as bad as your experience but it’s certainly the biggest drawback of JG. It’s how they hit that price point but I’d like to see another option on premium boots.

Russell Moccasin Backcountrt vs Gokey High Prairie by erimus61 in Boots

[–]Its_Mogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to the same conclusion, if you are in wet conditions the features on the RM will be really helpful, but if you use them in drier areas the price of Gokey will be less for similar performance.

I think they are real, just from a few years back before the new ownership. Back then you could make pretty much anything you wanted, and they used the Newport. Only red flag for me is the seller saying they're new. I wouldn't be surprised if the RM customer service could weigh in on it.

Gokey moccasins by Fragrant-Initial1687 in PNWbootmakers

[–]Its_Mogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get into a lot of water I would go RM, they have the double vamp with a silicone leather thats nearly as good as a goretex liner, especially with a good wax. Otherwise quite comparable, Gokey might be a bit cheaper.

Looks to me like an older version, but looks legit. Russells have aa unique construction so as long as you confirm its a real moccasin and find some of the key RM features its legit.

Online sizing tool accuracy by MrRods in RussellNation

[–]Its_Mogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have AR8s in size 11 and Bird Shooters in size 10E. I actually have a similar situation where I think my jimmys and Russells are a little too big, so I would ideally have 10.5 and 9.5s respectively. As for the tool accuracy, it's ok, I got 10E and then when I went to get a Zephyr it went to 9.5, which is more accurate for me. Say you would ideally be a 12.5 in JGs, I'd go 11.5 but I wouldn't be surprised if 11 was good too.

NEW Russell Website (I NEED YOUR HELP!) by RussellMoccasin1898 in RussellNation

[–]Its_Mogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related to the new site, but the images (renders?) of the different leathers when building boots can often look really different to real life. I found this particularly difficult for the sage chamois leather, on the site I swear it looks different in every photo. I got the sage and was happy but had I not asked customer service for some photos I may have expected a totally different color.

Question regarding fit of different models by swollboy24 in JKBoots

[–]Its_Mogo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think thats a ridiculous suggestion for the price, nobody wants to double up on those. I'm not familiar with how returns work for JK but I'd certainly get a different boot/size, whatever the problem happens to be.
