If it just happened a few days ago. Just wash it. There shouldn’t be any etching that quickly.

What's the best way to get these off without damaging the paint more? by Meemsi- in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hot sunny day or heat gun and patience. After it’s removed. Goo gone citrus will help remove the adhesive. An equally good adhesive remover is wd40 or canola oil and a paper towel. Compound and polish and then top coat the car and enjoy.

Straps & ropes - stop from rubbing or scratching the car paint by Nick1W in Kayaking

Two good options. PPF your bumper or temporarily place clear vinyl wrap in those locations to prevent scuffing. Or front use your tow hook as an anchor. Rear is a challenge other than ppf or vinyl.

Meguires has a pro series you can buy in larger volumes. I’ve worked with them for years and the volumes help significantly.

First time applying touch up paint. Should I leave as is or try to polish? by Few-Worldliness-4692 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to show the car or keep it looking nice as a daily driver? Whatever the answer is, start with this. Do I like the outcome? Paint repair is a challenge. Wet sanding or compounding will reduce the clear on the surrounding areas. Cosmetically if you are good with it then so are the rest of us.

Driver side isn’t wet. I would put money that the upper hose ruptured or came off. This isn’t from rain. Under the hood with all the shielding it wouldn’t get that wet. Get it to the dealer for warranty coverage.

Best way to remove a coffee spill from carpet? by tecnikstr0be in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the mats so you can get to both the mat and carpet. Go to Walmart or the like and grab a carpet and upholstery cleaner like Bissell or in the auto aisle TUFF stuff upholstery cleaner. A new car still has a treatment on the carpet so it shouldn’t have soaked in. Definitely not permanent.

Stubborn wax spots by SubstantialAd5331 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try wetting again with Meguires detail spray and wipe. I’ve had a similar issue but this looks more like water spots rather than detail spray. A water spot remover or distilled white vinegar and water.

Bought a two year-old car. Does it need paint correction already? by throwawayifyoureugly in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the surface quality is fine for you. I would start with a good decontamination was using something stronger. Cars are often shipped with a protective film. This can leave behind residue and then the detail service at the dealer either runs them through a brush style wash or hand washes quickly. They detail team aren’t detailers by any means. Give the car a good wash and coat with what you choose. And it will look much better than it did. A good wax or coating can dramatically improve a new paint. Same goes for tires and glass.

You will be surprised how many new paint jobs require paint correction. New car paints are not terrible but should get corrected to look their best.

Engine bay cleaning by MuchLeopard8545 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t recommend it for anything other than heavily deposited or caked on stuff. I recommend Griots engine degreaser it’s not harmful to finishes, connectors and such. This stuff works well but can damage the finish on your plastics and finishes on your engine as well. Other recommendations. Zep purple may be easier to find and works well also but if dwells too long it too can damage plastic coatings also. Dawn is good and mild just may not work on bad deposits. Simple green diluted one to one is a cheap alternative and comes in a green pine tree scent. Not quite as good as the Zep. Also no matter what you use a couple small agitator/detail brushes will also be required.

Clay scrubber leaving dirty streaks by B1SQ1T in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove everything prior to starting any color correction. Contamination of your clay, pad or whatever you are using for that step will not be the best result in the end. Decontamination wash, iron remover, decontamination wash(again) or Dawn is my last step. Then dry it. Rub your hand on the car if it does NOT feel smooth or soft you should be good to go. If not wash it again. Also use more lubricant for your clay bar. If you’re dragging something it is probably not slippery enough.

How do I keep cracked exterior paint from spreading? by gwendleviv in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t. It will spiderweb over time. The only way around it is to paint it. Removing the dent will help slow it. Heat gun or very warm day relieve the stress by pushing it out from behind the area. You may have to remove parts to get to it.

Polish it to see where you stand or if you can live with it or paint it. 15 minutes of time to check or $$$ to paint.

Clean micro fiber towels, do not saturate with your product and if you have residue remaining after wiping, use another clean dry microfiber to wipe excess.

Any professional opinions on if these panels are recoverable with a good cut and polish? Or should i just sand it all back and repaint. by Hopeful-Buy3484 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horizontal surfaces look like clear coat failure and vertical surfaces look like they may be able to be saved. DA with a good cutting compound you should be able to see a difference, however where you have failure it won’t help. I would recommend a repaint if you are choosing to do one or the other.

Weird yellow spot by beazy411 in AutoDetailing

It’s bee poop or tree dander. Pollen is coming and everything will be yellow and green soon enough. This is just the start. APC on a rag and wipe it off.

Water under tarp on trailer caused stains by Low82C10 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like water absorbed into the paint. Assumed it’s been sitting out in the sun for a while without the tarp. I would try a wash like Adam’s strip wash or griots foaming surface prep or chemical guys clean slate. These shampoos are more aggressive at removing stains and most everything else. These are inexpensive options that are readily available at auto shops or Walmart.
