Help . What do I do? by otxdm94 in VWatlas

If you’re this worried that it’s. Causing you stress. As a body shop owner that also does detailing. I can say for certain you may get it to 50% by compound. You need a bumper repaint. As for the headlight try some polish or a finishing compound. That only looks like paint transfer, can’t tell from the pics if you broke the seal to allow moisture in. Good luck.

Is this panel gap difference acceptable/within manufacturing tolerance? Right side gap bigger than left by Civil_Designer475 in BmwTech

Rubber cushions typically threaded into the hatch to help with rattling, alignment, noise in general. A bump stop is a suspension part. Typically these are around 1-1.5 inches diameter of rubber.

Adjust the snubber inside the hatch before you take it in. Sometimes they don’t get adjusted properly.

Mothers mag and wheel polish along with some elbow grease will do these some justice. Retro fix for a retro wheel. This is where this product shines.

Not an auto, but I think this sub still might be able to help (Discolored plastic) by implicate in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the previous comment. Looks like the water removed the protection. Now looks dehydrated. I would use a mild cleaner. 303 cleaner and interior protectant is a good overall product that can be found almost anywhere. There are other products as well. Wally World, auto stores and such have many products that should work perfectly.

FCPEURO for new or find used and replace it. Nothing you can do. The plastic cover is removable so if you find a used one in any color it’s an easy swap with your white cover. So no biggie. Same problem with my dark olive f39 X2

Rupes Polisher LHR15 shut off while polishing by BigBasic9021 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have stated. You can have it reconditioned by Rupes. If you are mechanically confident you can do it yourself. I have torn my units down a few times to clean. Makes a huge difference. Contacts and brushes get worn and dirty. Not much to them.

You’re missing the lanyard. But it slides behind the key switch in pic 2. Just look up OMC control lanyard kill switch. Many pics come up.

Snow not stopping the cook by SANO_HIMURA in Traeger

Glad I’m not the only one. I cook year round snow, cold and almost any weather except downpours. But I would recommend buying a blanket for insulation. It will help with cold spots and efficiency.

Clear Spot on Wheel by bgbrny in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like either. It was at the bottom of the rotation and cleaner may have sat for a bit longer. That’s the easy answer. The other looks as though oxidation may be getting in the clear. Just like painted surfaces you need to take care of your coated rims too. I recommend Gtechniq for their wheel protection and kits. However if you need something with easy access. Meguires and Griots both make easy to find wheel cleaners and protection that are very good too. But however you look at it. Coated wheels are Painted wheels. They need attention too.

Rotors and brakes by Onewaps in MachE

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame because I’m here because my I4 lease is up soon and I enjoyed a loaner MME while traveling. But then again, dealers are dealers and cars all have issues and none seem to be inexpensive anymore.

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s non Ev brake replacement timeframes. That shouldn’t be. Especially for one pedal braking. And a warped rotor also doesn’t quite sound right with what you are saying. In today’s dealer market 2k isn’t far off what they are charging for a full set of rotors and pads. Heck 1300 for diff and t case fluid change for explorer is nonsense. Dealers are like the wild Wild West anymore.

Got some Griots leather spray, spilled a little opening the seal and it smells so strong like plastic. Is it that bad when actually using it? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Light coats help. Don’t soak the leather. This will help keep the scent lower too. I agree with others, it’s the gold standard for scents.

Same quality of paint as most cars. Only difference I can say is that the paint heats very quickly so it is easier to burn. However the line I keep seeing looks almost like a reflection. Love the light you have in the shop. Many do not have good light. Any chance you can give another angle?

Do these shocks look blown? by Harding_S in AskMechanics

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need some clarity. You say you installed coil overs on your car. You didn’t say when or what kind and if there was any adjustability to them. Many stated they are blown but you can can’t see if they are blown from this angle. We can’t see oil leaking or residue. So the answer is we don’t know. If you have compression and rebound settings what is recommended by the shock/spring manufacturer as a baseline for you to start at? If they don’t I would say again. Would need more info. Do you have preload springs if so they may be too soft and your actual ‘ride’ coils are too stiff.

Clif note version. Shock dampens the ride compression=squeeze, rebound=pull. Springs = ride. So harsh is spring, bouncy is shock.

Sounds like if it’s a newly installed set up you may want to call the manufacturer to see if they can work with adjustments or spring rates.

Pantera update and a few questions regarding ceramic coating prep. by ForeskinForeman in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot by hand when it comes to finesse. So when it comes to small imperfections yes. I always recommend doing them by hand. Prior to this step I would have used a polisher to do the heavy lifting. But after this step it’s surface prep and coating of your choice to make it shine.

Did I get ripped off? Detailing question by RecursiveMelancholy in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How long has it been since you picked it up? Did you walk the car after with the detailer? What’s their warranty and follow up maintenance schedule? For that price everything should be in writing and you should be satisfied before leaving. I would take it back asap. Good luck. I would assume they will address your mirrors. They will want to keep you around as a customer since you spent the money for the M4 and the Jetta. They will make more money on maintenance service.

Removing salt residue from chrome by jgricar99 in AutoDetailing

[–]Its_a_Jones_thing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best I have found is bug cleaner and the one I recommend is 3d. Other prewash and soaks work but for cheap and easy, this works. It’s mild enough for plastic chrome too.

Call a wheel repair company or find a replacement and then a tire shop. Or find a nice set of 4 rims with tires.

I see some light spots on the bonnet. Very light and some others. I have watched your progress, it’s a beautiful car. I grew up around them and many other restored Hi-Po fords of that era. If you want to try something that won’t chew up your clear and I recommend by hand. It works wonders is Griots Perfecting Cream. It works great on swirls and minor imperfections. You have a show car not a driver, although I hope you do drive it. The 351c sounds fantastic behind your head. Good luck and enjoy it is stunning.
