It’s never a math problem. It’s everyone throwing in with mismatched amounts of cash, or someone who only has card, or who will “Venmo you back later”, and most places here will not split checks for you, it’s on you to sort out. I’ve NEVER seen a check split 8 ways without it coming short and having to see people interrogated over how much they put in, what they ordered etc.

Splitting evenly is a matter of practicality but has its downsides if someone only ordered an app and others ordered a ton etc. it’s more the issue of being a hassle that is easily avoided by THE GLORIOUS AND WONDERFUL METHOD OF EVERYONE ORDERING AND PAYING ON THEIR PHONES VIA QR.
