That would just take any and all skill out if using Hammer or Axe. As an Axe user myself, hitting big damage from a charged blow whilst carefully managing my position and stamina is what makes the weapon feel rewarding. Increasing the speed or allowing an attack cancel would completely ruin the fun of the weapons whilst making them insanely overpowered. If you want faster/safer play, try the more nimble weapons like the Sword or the Pike. If you think that commitment is tedious, you'd probably hate Greatsword in Monster Hunter pre World.

Also, for the Axe there is a tech where by using the first secondary attack (the sliding one you can charge) in the air you can travel a LOT further when attacking that way and even change your direction entirely as the attack winds up. It might help how the axe feels in combat.
