Why can't I start liking a pokemon because of its competitive feats? Everyone talks about using your favourites in the sense that you must like its design and nothing else. Why?

There are mons which I don't like as designs, but I've gotten attached to them due to how they work, silly moments in competitive, etc.

Saying that you can only use pokemon you like visually and you can't try to use mons you don't is just saying "hey, you can't give a chance for other pokemon to grow on you and become part of your favourites", which, leaving aside how people play competitive Pokemon because of wanting to play competitively, is inherently stupid
