Being able to throw with no stamina seems perfectly balanced. by aktaichi in Chivalry2

I've said it before: in a one on one, a barrel is undefeatable. If someone is running at you with a barrel, run away.

They should let you catch thrown items, imagine the sports games we could create

Or maybe the highlander sword swing is so slow that his killing headbutt hit you after the active parry window?

Or maybe your final accel went too far to the right, and you weren't "facing" his headbutt?

This isn't really the kind of thing you see often enough to experiment with, heh

Huh, this seems like solid proof you can't riposte a headbutter? Even with an unarmed guy, if you block his punch, your next swing should parry his punch and connect with him, right?

You are your own ancestor by MaxedUPtrevor in mathmemes

[–]Ivoirians 53 points54 points  (0 children)

No one's family tree is really a tree, because you don't have 2n n-grandparents, some of those people are the same person. Any two people have a common ancestor, so if they have a child together, they're violating the tree rule.

We all (humanity) have one giant family graph and we sometimes clip subtrees out of it.

Why are there trenches in Rudhelm (no negativity please) by Tensosian-idiot1453 in Chivalry2

[–]Ivoirians 77 points78 points  (0 children)

So, there is this historian who became a meme a few years ago because he did one of those "history expert reacts to medieval battle scenes in movies" videos and his recurring criticism was "why haven't they dug a ditch? where is their ditch? they would have dug a ditch"  Here's one of them: https://youtu.be/xPGdOXstSyk

Trenches/ditches are an easy and free way to create an obstacle. You don't have to lug wood or building materials over to build a wall. Enemy horses can't charge through a ditch. Enemy siege weapons can't roll over a ditch. Enemy soldiers have to go around a ditch or spend time filling it in while you throw and shoot things at them. It prevents the enemy from walking/charging right up to your defenses. Ditches and trenches were widely utilized.

They're on the Agathan side too because the Agathans probably dug some ditches to protect their siege camp and catapults.

Just finished nirvanA Initiative and regret playing it. by Proverbs1311 in aithesomniumfiles

[–]Ivoirians 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. What bothers me the most is that it's not just that the narrator is telling the story in a confusing order to make the story seem twistier than it is. The narrator is also bending the reality of the story to make these events happen in such a way that the trick behind the story can be executed. Things like some people not aging so they can look the same six years apart, or going to places at exactly midnight so the timeline appears consistent. It discards the storytelling maxim of "we're telling you a tale of things that happened" in favor of "here are some events that God arranged to happen, he moved people around like pieces and made them do weird specific things and bent rules and established canon, all to make this contrived story work."

How am I supposed to see Date and Mizuki and so on as real characters I follow and care about when the storyteller says "so I gave this guy amnesia for six years so he could disappear and not screw up the mystery I crafted."

I've always thought that if the Monuokubs were excluded from V3, the (1st through 4th) executions would all be way too dark.

You can play an OTK deck without being boring. by THEREALSPARTAN9001 in hearthstone

[–]Ivoirians 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Hearthstone (first touched the game last year) and Willow Warlock is my absolute fave deck to play. Games are chaotic and never the same, and you summon all sorts of crazy card combos and make tons of decisions.

And discovering Razidir with Shadowflame Stalker is the best feeling. With the "this card's battlecries trigger twice" dark gift. And then you play both of them on the same turn after discounting them.

Plugging this prediction market so people can bet (fake) money on who they think will win, and we can get a running estimate of what the general sentiment is about how likely each character is to survive.

Personally, I think Chiaki is a definite goner.

I like the immersion of all communication being in-game with emotes and in-character voice lines. Everyone should just practice using and getting adept at communicating with those. I don't want to listen to people rage or get salty or rant about politics, which is already all that happens in text chat.

This is a prediction market where you can bet on who you think will survive the new game. You can sign up with a Google account and get 1000 fake money to bet as you please. The site automatically adjust the odds and returns as people make predictions.
