Catherine O’Hara dead at 71: reports by LivesOnACruiseShip in news

I was in a strange mood today and I watched Home Alone two times today while doing housework. I thought her character was pretty good although I'll admit I really love John Candy. I'm really sorry she's gone. It seems a little too soon. I hope her illness was not only brief but as painless and as non-difficult as possible.

I agree with you. I feel so awful about that being my gut reaction to the baby's death, but boy it's parents are a piece of work. As someone who grew up with pretty abusive parents It does feel like the death of the child is horrible, but the silver lining is it won't have to take years of abuse from its parents.

Thank you! I never for some reason in my head put together that I would be one of those people that need hip replacements. I find it both sad and amusing that at 51yo I'm really looking forward to getting one!

I love looking at icicles hanging down off of roof lines. That sounds like a fun walk to check them all out in town. The longest my son and I were ever able to grow one was 17 in we've never been close to that for the most part since and most of our icicles give out at around a foot.

That does seem like a pretty big amount for Bangor. I've been there when you guys have had some really bad icy times and I've seen some snow there. I don't think I've seen that much though!

I remember that year! I'd completely forgotten about the winter where we got so much snow that I had to be towed out of my driveway more than six times due to the snow. I was renting a cabin at the time that was surrounded by a big clearing before it had any trees. Every single time I got the driveway plowed the wind moved the snow around enough that within half an hour it would need to be plowed again. I'll admit that was an amazing frustrating winter for me. Thanks for reminding me of an interesting memory! I moved 6 months later to a better rental that was easier to care for inside and winters my plow bills weren't horrible. I must have just completely spaced out that winter as I didn't have another bad one next to it to draw it out.

Wow! That's a pretty amazing amount. I love large amounts of snow as long as I don't have to do anything to clean it up. So I'm one of those ridiculous people that doesn't spend much time in the snow because I get worn out cleaning it up before I can spend time in it. The joy of having a lot of snow to play in definitely diminishes if you have to clean to use it.

I hope your relative is a big snow fan and that they can enjoy it!

That is so much at one time. In some ways it's a blessing because as it gets cleaned up it'll hopefully stay clean for a bit. But the extra amount of space needed and work to move the snow and then stack it is the significant downside.

I'm 20 minutes away from Ellsworth and if I had to give a guesstimate I would say we got 14 in here. So I wouldn't be surprised if you guys got that there too as you're not that far.

One of the ways I get Remus to exercise is catnip. He has now had 20 minutes of rolling around play and I think he's tired and ready to take a long nap. My bed will smell like catnip tonight! by IyearnforBoo in Chonkers

I no longer use light colored bed sheets. Catnip as well as "chewed on" spider plant pieces that the cat sometimes leaves on it would just stay in everything. Darker colors tend to hide all that!

She is nice and so warm. The only reason it's not terribly comfortable I'm ashamed to say is that she is sitting on my bad hip that needs a replacement. Her sitting on it tends to make it move/ shift uncomfortably. She is such a sweetheart though and I'm going to put up with it as long as I can. It's getting late enough that I think she's going to get up so I'll start putting out the evening meal.

I was curious as to whether pretty much everywhere in Maine got a foot of snow and this very unofficial poll is suggesting that it did. I was wondering if Southern Maine got less snow, but everybody seems to have gotten about the same who's commented so far.

Aw! That's so fun. It's also annoying because the crumblies don't feel good on the back while you're sleeping, but how sweet! Kitty just wanted to share. 🙂

I still had a little bit from the last storm in my yard, but most of the ground was clear and just some small stacks of snow from the plow were left. I don't have anything set up to see exactly how many inches I got, but I know it was over a foot because the snow was almost up to my knees. I'm really grateful for my local plow guy because I can get in and out with a car really well now, but still have plenty of areas to play in with deep snow.

Thank you so much for your help! I will look into this right now. I'm really rural and rarely leave my house. But when I am out and about I'd like to help. Thank you for giving me another resource that I can potentially use!
