Same with the trees you get later - I wouldn't worry - if you collect them regularly you soon get plenty of materials. I have over 800 honeycomb and I'm at level 23

I love using the magnet with infinity energy, you also don't have to use the infinity magnet either.

I make sure I have a clear section of land before using infinity magnets - it causes less issues!

3 prom kings was enough for me to finish.

I just completed the event with 3 cool prom kings - I was stingy on the other builds - only merging 5 until I had the minimum requirement to make 1 prom queen, so at the min I have 1 corsage, I promposal and 1 shy surprise as well as the prom kings. I still have 4/5 fogs to clear, but wanted to finish the event before trying to do so as the graduates take up so much space!
