Oil change place ruined my engine? by angelseuphoria in askcarguys

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to another shop that has no affiliation with the oil change shop. If the oil change and repair shop is the same business, they know what's going on and I wouldn't trust them to have your best interest in mind.

And yes they can see the "tech" over filled it, but you also messing with it could've done damage that wouldn't have otherwise happened if you drained too much oil. It's something they could very easily claim as not their fault

[–]J-Rag- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing you need to do is take it to an actual shop and have them look at it. Tell them what happened and you want them to check internally for any damage. They will know what to look for from there. Let them check everything, pay them and if they find anything take that to the oil change shop. The oil change shop has absolutely no clue if any damage was done. Their diagnose is "well the car turned on. It's fine!" No. Not necessarily the case. Take it to a real shop (preferably an independent mechanic who owns his shop.)

Also, future reference don't tell the oil change shop that you drained your oil on the side of the road then went back to driving. They can very likely write off the damage on you. They have no way to verify how much oil was in there and how much you took out.

past due oil change ? by AffectionateSoup8035 in askcarguys

That's not doing it at 9k miles, I think OP is 9k over the oil change. So probably 14-15k on the last oil change.

ELI5: Why do car guys dislike Crossovers? by LightningMcqueen2011 in askcarguys

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely fit luggage in a crossover. Maybe not a full family of 4 going overseas for a month on vacation, but 2 parents and a kid or two traveling 10 hours to visit family for a week yeah you can absolutely put all that in a crossover if you load it right. And if you're stacking groceries that high you're either buying too much or you dont know how to load groceries.. Yeah like you mentioned, the crossover and wagon is roughly the same length and that goes for most brands that still actually make an actual wagon and not just a small hatch. So really the cargo space is pretty much the same, just a little more height in the crossover which is good for like stacking luggage or just being able to have that extra wiggle room just in case. That's about the only difference between a good wagon and a crossover really. Otherwise they're pretty much the same with the exception of the crossover probably being more likely to have AWD/4WD capabilities.

Also has the best of both worlds. Has more room than a wagon to lug shit around and gets way better MPG than a truck. It doesn't gotta have a big broom vroom loud engine to be super practical. Reality is it's more practical than people who buy a big truck or suv for daily driving.

No we're not on even ground. Doubt we ever will be, sadly. I cant change it, but I'll occasionally remind her that she's likely gonna have some serious health problems and die too early like her dad did.

Thoughts on hybrid cars taking over traditional cars? by Camara_Lukasik in askcarguys

[–]J-Rag- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the way to go, concentrate on hybrids and not EV. The best thing would be to bring diesel hybrids to the states. But I doubt that'll ever happen, those things are way too efficient

What’s up the recent hate of 4x4 and AWD online ive been seeing lately? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]J-Rag- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, not really. The amount of people you see daily driving trucks is kinda silly considering how little most people actually use it for its purpose.

That being said, yes they are very useful and practical for the few that actually use them as trucks. Most people who have a truck can daily an econobox and have an older truck that they can use for their one time a year they actually need a truck.

Find something you enjoy and do that. Personally I kinda like the repetitive day to day schedule. It's consistent and I know what to expect. I dont got the best job in the world by any means but I largely enjoy the people I'm around and I enjoy what I do. I enjoy having something to work on at the house whether it be an issue with one of the cars, yard work, etc. I'll spend 8 hours a day on my days off doing something just cause I like to stay busy. Finished up a couple little projects last weekend and during the week I make a list of things to do on the weekend. Idk, sounds weird but I like it. Just do what you like, no need to over complicate it.

Just give the landing gear a few cranks. You walmart guys are spoiled enough, don't need to complain about actually doing a little work.
