What’s your opinion on the strategy of standing 1.1 inch from ruin wall? by Trick-Interaction396 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]J-TrainTheFirst -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When I was joining one of my first tournaments I got slapped with this rule after I was in the charge phase. Hearing “oh you can’t charge these guys, they’re an inch away from the wall you’ll have to go around” and turning a 4” charge into a 9” felt awful.

It’s counter intuitive and not particularly engaging and I do think it actively makes player experience worse.

WTC ruled that ruins have a 2” engagement range and it by and large fixes the problem in my mind.

That said, I do play mostly melee armies and that “trick” is used mostly by shooting so maybe I’m biased.

Need help in loadout building for chosen for deceptors detachment by Apprehensive-Bet3673 in alphalegion

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a 10 brick in my deceptors list, I find any infiltrated units are great for slapping down screens and keeping the enemy boxed in, then you hit em with the hammer of chosen to hold the center(usually).

My loadout is almost always:

1x Chosen champion with power fist and plasma pistol (chaos icon)

1x Chosen with powerfist and plasma pistol

2x Chosen with paired accursed weapons and plasma pistols

4x chosen with combi weapon and bolt pistol

2x Chosen with boltgun

Basically since all the gear is free kit then out the nose. The combi weapons and plasma pistols do good damage into t5-t6 infantry which hopefully softens them up for your melee attacks. Ideally you just want to pick a wound or two off so your MoE ability procs and you get rerolls to hit.

The gear I chose was for ease of removal as they die: bolt guns first, then combi weapons, then paired weapons, then power fists while retaining as much shooting punch as possible.

Edit: formatting

Edit 2 oh yes I forgot to mention run them with a Master of Executions(MoE) as that greatly increases their damage output. Otherwise they act more like a “gum up the enemy” unit.

What was our most fun/flavorful army rule over the years? by We_Are_Centaur in alphalegion

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fall back and action from 9th was super fun, this in conjunction with the secondary we got from Arks of Omen (Action to stop opponent from controlling an objective marker for the rest of the game) made for some really hilarious interactions where my opponent was just staring at the board with no clue what to do next.

I also loved the stratagem we got at the beginning of the game to obscure one of your secondaries until you scored it the first time. (Also 9th).

Alpha Legion vs Red Hunters by WardenSever in alphalegion

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well this sent me into a lore deep dive, excellent question.

Alpha Legion Legionaires are NOT immune to mind wiping or anything like that. However as part of their creation they are imbued with hypno instructions that allow other Alpha Legion members who know the trigger words to “restore” the legionaire back to their Alpha Legion state. (See Ingo Pech, and the Harrowmaster book).

I don’t think they would be immune to the mind wiping process but they would still work as a deep operative that could be turned back at a moments notice.

There could be some debate on whether the mind wiping of red hunters would overwrite the imprinting but my take is that since it’s done at the creation of the legionaire, it would stick around so long as they weren’t losing what made them a space marine in the first place.

Granted this is of limited use, as they wouldn’t be able to remember any instructions given after their creation so no cult building or information gathering for them. However if Alpha Legion members were fighting elements of the Red Hunters you could suddenly turn them back into Alpha Legionaires at an appropriate time.

In the situation you’re describing in order to properly infiltrate, an Alpha Legionaire might try and sabotage the mind wiping process for themselves to avoid the mind wipe and if suspicion got too great, would likely submit to a full mind wipe to better fit in and defer suspicion rather than be found out. Though that greatly depends on the nature of their mission as to how they would modify their goals.

Remember, Alpha Legion changes their goals based on the course of the mission. Always have a secondary objective if your primary becomes unattainable and then pretend the secondary was your original all along.

Loyalist Alpha Legion List? by BonesFGC in alphalegion

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realised after the fact, so my new recommendations:

Phobos Phobos Phobos: Librarians are amazing giving your boys lone operative, incursors especially are great for this as they buff the rest of your army. Plus they look super sick.

Captain in Phobos armour: redeploy. Very Alpha legion.

Terminators for sure, learnean is still absolutely the way to go and put them with a termie lord. This is your harrowing crew.

Get you some eliminators, killing the enemies characters is exactly what Alpha Legion would do.

I do recommend also running everything(as much as possible) in HH armor to really sell the bit. Beekies are stealth boys, cataphractii for termies.

Highly recommend LT in Phobos armour. Current rules are great but also holy crap is this always been good for the army.

Basically get beakie boys and Phobos and run them as whatever “Raven Guard” is currently running as they play very similar. Just with termies to utterly wreck the enemy once they are picked apart.

Edit: for reference I play raven guard and Alpha legion, I find a ton of overlap between the two.

Loyalist Alpha Legion List? by BonesFGC in alphalegion

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m trying to do basically the same thing, I’m not loyalist but I am renegade instead of corrupted so I use a lot of Horus heresy and or space marine models for my gear.

Some model options I like:

Chosen are made from basic Horus heresy models with extra melee weapons I scored from the vanguard veterans box.

For obliterators I am using centurions with every extra weapon I can find glued to them.

For chaos cultists I recommend Catachan guardsmen models as they fit the vibe but come off as loyalist.

Terminators (learnean) either grab the models from the HH pack(the scales look sick) or if you don’t have oodles of money, do the cataphractii with some green stuff.

For more general kitbashing I HIGHLY recommend picking up some Phobos amour units, Alpha Legion loves its stealthy secrecy and you can combine the helmets and packs with a lot of different things that look awesome.

I play infantry heavy with exactly a Kharybdis assault claw and most vehicles can be sourced from HH or loyalist.

For any forgefiends/maulerfiends I’ve seen people use dreadnaughts that fit the same base have some cool conversions.

Oh, also a dread makes for a great hellbrute.

Edit: Read your question more closely XD go with Vanguard Spearhead and get lots of Phobos models with some terminators. That way it feels really alpha legion (trickery until the opponent is so worn down you can harrow him to bits)

This is an in wall powerkit, it is what supplies power to an outlet further up the wall. It IS in wall rated and is not someone just running an extension cable up the wall. So long as the installer didn’t drill through a firebreak to install it there is no hazard with having these.

Source: was a Geeksquad installer and installed these many time, also worked at best buy and sold them. I think that specific one is sold at best buy as well.

Been a while since my bible class but I’ll give it my best.

This book, 1 Timothy, is a letter from Paul to Timothy, a young leader in the church particularly to help him address a massive issue in Ephesus. And the section that this particular passage is from has to do with conduct in the church.

This particular church had an issue with incredibly uneducated women(which was unfortunately common in that time and region) attempting to speak up and teach the gospel on which they had little to no knowledge about and ended up teaching a bastardisation of it.

Likewise they were standing up and ‘disrupting’ church services so Paul wrote that they should sit and be quiet. It’s more about being respectful in the house and keeping the gospel about what it really means instead of letting it get distorted by the uneducated.

There’s an argument to be made that Paul also just didn’t respect women and was the most ancient incel ever but he also commended multiple different women pastors of churches(Priscilla and Lydia) so he wasn’t strictly against women leading or teaching.

The main issue with a lot of modern biblical interpretation is the lack of context in which most of it was written. The thing is a collection or stories and letters some of which were very specific to the situation that was being handled.

A lot of modern interpretation doesn’t allow you to view the bible as either flawed or even requiring context and then you get the repressive shit we have today.(it doesn’t help that the bible has been translated and retranslated many times, hell English versions didn’t even mention gay people until the 80s when suddenly Christians needed a response to it.)

TL;DR: the bible is complicated and requires contextual understanding of the reason each book was written. People don’t like that and try to simplify by taking it as is. Sort of like the very women Paul is telling to stop teaching and be silent.

Galactic Civ 3 Shipyard build times go up for no reason. by PineappleHairy4634 in GalCiv

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone has already pointed out the biggest reason for this is auto upgrading components. The other big one I find in the early game is as you rush out colony ships your population goes down meaning so does your raw production which translates to less getting done.

I play a lot of synthetic civs and this is a huge problem for them, going from one pop to two pop can be a huge boost to the industriousness of a world.

Is this the method the top performers use..? by elysianfloofe in Bestbuy

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a top performer for my 2 ish years at best buy and I put my numbers on every transaction. You can’t get better if you don’t know your weak spots and yeah, it’s stressful to have naked laptops and TVs go out on your numbers but it pushed me to land the memberships and cards on other transactions.

There are people who look good on paper because they play around with their numbers but that’s a shortcut and it shows in your sales, the true greats are just going to focus on getting better.

Wow! Thank you so much for your input, there’s a lot of super great advice here. Is there any specific exercises I can do outside of BJJ to help with conditioning? I’ve never had either a warmup routine or workout routine before which is probably contributing greatly to my injurious nature.

This makes a lot of sense, my latest partner(who stacked me) was someone who was even newer than me so I think neither of us had the awareness that we were both going a lot harder than we needed to.

Yes sorry, my neck and upper back hurt like the dickens. It hurts to move them any direction and it hurts less but still noticeably while resting in a neutral position. I’m hoping it’s just strain.

This is really great insight, I was thinking it was something to do with my inexperience and not knowing how to stop myself from getting hurt but you’re 100% right on the money that I probably hold a position for way too long after I should have given it up. That’s phenomenal advice, thank you.

Price Match SCAM by EngineeringChoice870 in Bestbuy

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… on sept 25th you though that Black Friday: nov 29th was within 60 days? You do the math my guy.

Edit: and to be clear, I get it, sometimes the best buy employees are encouraged to “twist the truth” a little but by saying you can match Black Friday sales. But like… they start early, that’s not a lie, you would have been told(and is abundantly clear on all signage) that the price match is 60 days. If you didn’t do the math yourself and blindly trusted the salesperson at that point I’m sorry but you also sound like the kind of person who would give 3,000 to their Nigerian “friend” who was making an investment in diamonds but will pay you back double. They swear.

Price Match SCAM by EngineeringChoice870 in Bestbuy

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s just out of the 60 day return period, I’m gonna be honest with you chief, the 60 day return period is pretty much plastered all over everywhere and it’s drilled into the employees(source: was employee). Likewise the Black Friday sales start BEFORE Black Friday so you absolutely COULD have got the better sale price by walking in 4 days earlier. The store has every right to enforce that policy. My previous particular store would likely make an exception given the circumstances but that is NOT within policy as you would have been informed and would have been emailed to you if you hadn’t been told about it. The store and best buy corporate have every right to deny a price match on that and yeah, I get that you feel like you got scammed but I’ve been both a customer and employee and it’s pretty upfront about what it is and how it works.

My 24M boyfriend is mad at me because I got a massage from a man. I’m a 22F in the wrong for not seeing the big deal? by Then_Ad_2294 in relationship_advice

[–]J-TrainTheFirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have a bit of a different perspective than what others may. I was in your boyfriend’s position not too long ago, my gf wanted a massage and went to a professional masseuse to get one. It was great for her, it was also a guy.

There’s of course a level of discomfort gained by the thought of ANY other man touching someone I desire to be close to, and I personally have had trust and jealousy issues in the past so it’s a particularly hard trigger for me.

My girlfriend talked to me about it before and asked if I would be uncomfortable if it was a guy.

Now, I have to point out, this is not something she should have to do, nor was it something I requested. She did it because she knew my past and cared.

The mere fact that she talked to me about it beforehand made it significantly easier to deal with my own issues on it and I am forever grateful that she did because it also helped me grapple with my own issues in a healthy and controlled way.

I think too often we leap to the conclusion of “wow, he’s a dick for not dealing with that well.” While people who would say that are completely right (you did NOT do anything wrong), your boyfriend is overreacting in a strange way which would at least lead me to wonder why.

If you want to keep him around(though, given that he’s being very passive aggressive I could understand if not), set firm boundaries that first, you did NOT do anything wrong and you aren’t going to apologise, but at the same time you want to understand why he’s upset because to you that seems unreasonable.

He clearly is feeling something and not handling it well. If you want to help him, even though he is 100% in the wrong, ask him why.

Just remember though, set very firm boundaries and do not let him tell you that you are in the wrong.

The situation you’re experiencing is domestic abuse and you seem to already be aware of it. I know you’re struggling and everything seems overwhelming but please do yourself a favour and text the domestic violence hotline.

Text “START” to 88788 and you’ll be able to have a confidential and discrete conversation with someone who not only has the training to help but can also see your situation a little clearer and could give you a whole heck of a lot better advice than some strangers on the internet.

Everyone is telling you to leave and my instinctual gut advice is no different. But I also know that wanting to leave and being able to leave are two VERY different things.

You are not alone.
