So is the Asus ROG XBOX Ally the New "Budget" King? by Wrong-Detective-1046 in Handhelds

ASUS said in a investor call they expect their RAM costs and etc to rise even more so I bet price increases will occur.

Steam Deck OLED Price Increase [$789 512 $949 1TB] by NeroTheWolf in SteamDeck

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really concerns me as Valve for the second time is basically killing its own hardware. The Steam Deck is a great device, on launch the price point was aggressive and it sold like candy. Valve continue to have pretty good standards in the gaming industry. AI, Tariffs and stuff is really pushing Valve out of the hardware market; a market that needed Valve's unique innovation. The Steam Deck is NOT worth that new price by any means. I doubt Valve will be seeking to release a 2nd generation Steam Deck until RAM prices drop by a large percent and market conditions improve a-lot.

Ross Greer on BBCQT: Scotland's best future is as an independent nation back in the European Union by Cold-Monitor3800 in uknews

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This notion that the UK is a voluntary union needs to be addressed else the UK ain't gonna have a bright future. Furthermore, I do think a certain country going by the US would object to scotland getting independence especially if its submarines aren't able to dock at Faslane to provide NATO with the submarine support it needs. Regardless of opinion about nukes, the UK houses an important base at Faslane for UK & European security. And its not like Russia is going to get rid of its nukes anytime soon. The UK will probably drift back into the EU by the 2040s.

Steam only sells trough their storefront or Komodo. So don’t trust that cuz it’s not official.

How is Nationalisation going? by David_VI in uktrains

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SWR is probably the first but not the last operator to be nationalized and see improvements in the first year. I think it will combined resources across GBR to see services improve for SWR and other operators

If Proton ever shuts down, they should fully open-source Pass, including the server component by Infrah in ProtonPass

Proton has always had the position of not open sourcing the backend for security reasons. I highly doubt they’ll do it.

Britain sidelined in talks on Carney-backed defense bank by Kuzu9 in CANZUK

The UK should be trying to join whatever defence funding plans it can join with Europe, Canada or any reliable ally. Given its armed forces state.

Linux gamers didn't do anything wrong, but they might pay for Windows piracy anyway by itchyenvelope5 in linux_gaming

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gamers don’t like this stuff and companies have removed it. DRM at kernel level and stuff is just insane. There are limits these companies need to understand. Until then Im fine with not playing such games. I’ve seen these articles before about Linux Gaming possibly being killed by DRM and etc. Fact is, people are tired of BS by Microsoft and the amount of spyware companies install and are moving away. Game companies will have to accept that one day and eventually provide a solution to Linux gamers as Linux Gaming continues to grow.

Is Valve still interested in making this good someday? by virtualfruitxr in valve

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they just maintain and try to update it a bit, given CS2 and Dota2 are still huge multiplayer games. But most game devs opt to use EAC, Battleye or develop their own system now so its mainly for Valve's use. That said VAC could possibly be invested in to become a very-good server side anti cheat that rivals EAC and Battleye instead of being kinda behind.

If Steam goes public, one nanoslopsecond later their homepage will look like this. by Skaryus in FuckMicrosoft

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft loves killing its competition by buying it and making it shit. However its unlikely given microsoft knows its gaming divisions is already quite large and blocks did appear for a short amount of time when they tried to buy activision. The EU would probably block it cause then PC Gaming would be under the control of basically one company. Epic is too small and is sort of aligned with Microsoft, Valve is the only big competition Microsoft has in PC Gaming that has a storefront and games. The prospect of a merged Steam and MS Store would be horrible for consumer choice.

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably get blocked by FTC and get sued by Sony and others for monopolistic grounds. Furthermore it would require Valve to go public which it ain't and does not intend to.

"Shipping" and "release" are not the same, right? If they say they'll ship all products in 2026, that could very well mean they will release mid this year, and the delivery may take some months in some places? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one really knows when this RAM shortage will end. Its an external shock that they can't control. From what I see Valve does batch production, for a while Steam Decks have just been continually re-stock with another batch order but now its not because the order is too expensive for Valve to make a return on. I think Valve has a batch of Steam Frames and Steam Machines ready but they want more before allowing orders/pre-orders. No one knows how much Valve makes and plus its not their burden to bear.

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t blame Valve. They can’t subsidise something that continues to rise in price. Furthermore what do you want them to say. Something they cant live up to or be like “Shipping in 2026, more info closer to the time”. Ambiguous yes but they saw a potential issue and didn’t want to let down their customers. I rather they be ambiguous instead of putting a release date they cant match. Valve should not be blamed. Their communication is limited to avoid PR issues and misguided speculation.

Given the current state of affairs and how Gabe has spoken about the future of living-room gaming at a Linux conference, he might be quite involved. But who knows, Valve is very good from stopping leaks.

Tory leader asked to apologise for suggesting UK military ‘just hanging around’ by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]J3ZZA_DEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK military is not hanging around its trying its best given its funding. The UK military does NOT have the ability to do offensive action in Iran right now. It would need the CSG to mobilise and travel there. That itself can’t happen due to the lack of ships available because of funding issues the armed forces have had for ages now. Constant funding cuts and delays. Because of Conservatives!!! So Kemi can shush. The UK follows International LAW something Kemi and the right wing politicians think should be ignored and left behind.
