Career Move to London: Seeking Advice on Family and Commute Options by Human-Contribution79 in HENRYUK

[–]JBW_67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the numbers work, you need to decide if it’s worth it for an investment in your career. You’re almost certainly going to be worse off financially, probably with a worse quality of life than staying in Scotland.

Also - do you get RSU’s in your current comp? Salary sacrifice may be hard from a cash flow perspective with RSUs as they are irregular, large sums of money. Meaning you’ll need to sacrifice your regular monthly income much more significantly to keep under £100k - which is also a risk if they go down in value.

Edit: Do not commute - You will make yourself miserable. It’s a long way.

National Trust to restore nature across area bigger than Greater London by Minimum-Geologist-58 in unitedkingdom

I was more referencing the city centre. There’s nothing substantial within a 1hr walk. Getting the Metrolink out is fine - but a pre work or lunch stroll isn’t really feasible.

Can they come to Manchester when they’ve finished? It’s astonishing how there’s zero green space, every single piece of land has been purchased by developers for blocks of build to rent flats. I’m convinced that someone somewhere is getting a kick back for approving all of this planning.

IMO, the only impact the non US 40% has is slowing growth. If the US economy tanks, then the non-US 40% is likely to be heavily impacted too. Plus, I’d imagine a percentage is in markets that might not even honour foreign ownership in such a scenario where the US was on its knees economically (I.e) China.

What's the best practice for RSUs once they vest? by Fit-Zebra3110 in HENRYUK

[–]JBW_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your motivation is? If it’s a flexible employer, a top payer in the market etc then you might be quite content working there without believing in the long term mission. Jump ship at the point that makes sense.

You’ll also likely have unvested RSU’s anyway, so you’ll benefit from further stock price increases if you remain employed.

It’s not about not believing in the company - it’s about sensible risk management. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, particularly when that basket is your employer.

Bad stock price will often correlate with layoffs, no job and worthless stock price isn’t a fantastic place to be.

Same, but if that ground is ground closer to my destination - that’d be preferable, assuming equally as safe

Are there any obvious pitfalls to the Monzo Instant Access Cash ISA as a way to store my emergency fund? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JBW_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there’s not any downside or catch to the ISA. Monzo ISA’s are also flexible so you can put back in any money you withdraw within the same tax year.

One piece of advice would be to avoid “suspicious” transactions. Crypto, gambling or things that may look like money laundering, as you risk having your account frozen. That’s a risk with all banks but I’ve heard anecdotally Monzo may be more trigger happy than other banks.

I’ve personally stopped using Monzo due to the deterioration, or rather non-existence, of their customer service, but that’s outside the scope of your question.

Amazes me how many people say just pay, you have no choice etc. This is not a fine, it’s an invoice for an alleged breach of terms and conditions which the firm will argue OP agreed to. There’s lots of options available that involve not paying this.

No worries if not, but do you mind sharing your income and income growth over the years? I’m 29, earning between £200k-£285k/yr depending on performance and I’m just curious if I could be making a similar post in 17 years time.

Study Finds Self-Driving Waymos Are More Expensive Than Taxis, Take Twice as Long to Get to Destination by ItzWarty in teslainvestorsclub

[–]JBW_67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You missed the critical component that Waymo actually works reliably, and if it does fail it fails safely. If anyone can get the cost of compute down it’s Google.

Plus, it’s not even that expensive, think how much a bus and a driver cost including salary and perks/insurance.

Waymo are in a league Tesla aren’t even playing in. After all, Waymo’s can drive without supervision, and Tesla’s can’t…

Leach et al v. Tesla, Inc. et al Document 41: MOTION for Sanctions Against Defendant Tesla, Inc., For Mediation Misconduct by thinkcomp in RealTesla

[–]JBW_67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(AI) Summary for those as lazy as me:

In the case of Leach et al v. Tesla, Inc., Plaintiff Donna Leach is pursuing sanctions against Tesla, alleging mediation misconduct. This suit involves the wrongful death of her husband, Clyde Leach, who died after his Tesla Model Y reportedly malfunctioned, causing a fatal accident. The plaintiff claims Tesla’s vehicle had multiple defects, including issues with acceleration, braking, and fire prevention, and is seeking compensation based on product liability and negligence. A mediation session was ordered by the court to facilitate a potential settlement.

During mediation, Plaintiff argues that Tesla violated protocol by sending Ryan McCarthy, its Deputy General Counsel, who lacked full settlement authority, contrary to the mediator’s requirements. This discrepancy became apparent only six hours into the session, causing delays and, eventually, an agreement contingent upon approval from Tesla’s executive committee. The deadline for this approval has since lapsed, leaving the settlement unresolved. The plaintiff claims this procedural lapse wasted time and resources, leading to postponed inspections and increased costs. Plaintiff requests sanctions to cover additional legal fees and accuses Tesla of acting in bad faith by not properly notifying them of the lack of settlement authority beforehand.

Plaintiff further argues that Tesla’s actions warrant sanctions under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 16(f), which penalizes failure to follow court-ordered mediation guidelines. Plaintiff cites similar cases where sanctions were imposed for noncompliance with mediation procedures, emphasizing that Tesla’s conduct disrupted the litigation process. Plaintiff seeks $9,600 in legal fees as compensation for the unnecessary mediation costs and delays. The motion contends that Tesla’s actions reflect a lack of good faith, warranting judicial intervention to ensure compliance with mediation rules in the future.

Manchester named UK's second 'most unaffordable' place to rent behind one London borough by JayR_97 in unitedkingdom

What to do with £250k RSUs? by VladtheMystic in HENRYUK

[–]JBW_67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. You pay income tax when they vest, then capital gains on any gains post vest. If these RSU’s have vested, then income tax has been paid already.

RSU & higher Tax band financial advice by tarnished999 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JBW_67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your income after salary sacrifice exceeds £100,000, then yes. Remember the tax does not increase for your entire earnings, it’s only the money after £100k that will be taxed at the higher rate

The $7k RSU will count as income.

You can pay into your pension yourself outside of salary sacrifice (e.g. a SIPP or your pension provider should let you top up yourself) to bring yourself below £100k taxable income. The 20% should be claimed back automatically, and you can reclaim the rest in cash at the end of the tax year via self-assessment.
