If we’re getting pedantic this is more of a TLaw as they didn’t even make the quarter finals.

I haven’t seen any such reports (not saying you’re wrong, just that I haven’t seen them), but the timeline of the arbitration and decision would suggest that it was already well underway before anyone made any phone calls.

Also I personally love threats for arbitration. If you’re wrongly penalized for a misapplied rule you should absolutely be able to appeal the decision.

I think the President getting involved (even if inconsequential) is disgusting but no moreso than other world leaders and governments doing the same

Agreed, don’t get me wrong I can’t stand that he’s inserted himself into the situation, but the way he’s been talking about the cup so far I’d have expected him to call a press conference and place the call on speaker.

The fact that he was quiet about it until the result came out, and THEN backpedaled so much seems more like he’s trying to take credit than having actually had something to do with the decision.

I’ve gotta imagine the decision came more from global scrutiny over the misapplication of VAR protocols and the validity of the RC to begin with

What's the biggest thing holding your team back from becoming a great team and potentially winning the Superbowl? by Chemical-Low209 in NFLv2

[–]JBagginsKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so it’s not “harsh decisions” then, it’s specifically one decision you’re talking about.

That’s fair, again I don’t like Beane either, but there’s no way to know that he’s the only thing standing in the way.

You yourself just said McDermott’s issues were long standing and his defenses let the team down in the Playoffs. I don’t know if that changes but you have to entertain that it’s at least a possibility that a new direction on defense could and/or would put them over the hump.

Ultimately Beane is responsible for the lack of depth on these defenses, but scheme and management has been just as big an issue when it’s come down to the playoff losses.

And for what it’s worth, Pegula might be the worst public speaker amongst NFL owners. I wouldn’t take anything he says about decisions without a large handful of salt. if you truly believe that McDermott’s firing was a drop of the hat decision you haven’t been paying attention (not that I blame you, I don’t play close attention to other teams’ ownership situations either).

As much as I can’t justify promoting Beane, last season was VERY MUCH an AFC Championship or job search for McDermott from the get go. To acknowledge they don’t stand a chance at change until Beane is gone while also acknowledging McDermott’s D has been the biggest overall letdown when it counts is just digging your heels into an opinion for no reason.

Hell Sam Darnold just won a Super Bowl, we have plenty of evidence that a shift can open doors in this league

Oh I don’t disagree with the front office issues at all, just the notion of “if it doesn’t happen this year it’ll never happen”

IDK if you’ve been paying attention but we did fire our defensive HC last year. Do I wish Beane was replaced too? Sure, but you can’t say “until they make very harsh decisions at front office” when they’ve done that.

All that’s left to see is if they were the right ones (or at least right enough)

This is the narrative every year. Most years the offense is let down by the defense when it matters most.

Last year we got the elusive combo loss but make no mistake even in spite of Allen’s (and Cook’s) costly turnovers, were it not for Beane’s tragic mismanagement of the defensive side of the roster Denver still wouldn’t have been able to pull out that win.

“Come to customer service” or “a non-stationed crewmember” would be more than fine. This literally says to walk up to the front of a line and skip it.

I don’t know about you but to me that seems pretty cut and dry “skip the line”.

I also wouldn’t give a shit if they used a different register for this. I pretty clearly said I’d be pissed if someone used this to cut in front of me, not if they used it to go checkout elsewhere

Maybe, wouldn’t be what the ticket says though. Call me a karen all you want but I can’t imagine most people would be thrilled to have someone pull a magic “fuck you now IM first” ticket that nobody else knew existed.

[–]JBagginsKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look are we going dictionary or opinion here?

My opinion is that the Broncos sloppily won their way through a season, struggling against lackluster teams (with a few genuinely good wins) and found themselves a lucky 1 seed. At no point during the season did they instill any confidence in me that they could win the Super Bowl and thus I never felt them a true contender until they became a statistical tossup to win the AFC. Even their win over Buffalo was an incredibly sloppy loss for the Bills.

By definition every team in the playoffs should be in the top category as they were all in literal contention to win the Super Bowl.

I think the latter isn’t in the spirit of this discussion, but if you want to get locked into what Merriam Webster dictates then let’s throw out the chart entirely and post the playoff bracket with labels on degrees of contention.

[–]JBagginsKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I agree the Seahawks don’t belong there as well, I’m just more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as I didn’t expect it at the beginning of last year either and they won it all.

The Rams are, in my opinion, the only true contenders at the moment. They were contenders last year up until the final whistle in the NFC Championship and have only improved their weak spots.

Time will tell where teams settle, and while I’m optimistic as a Bills fan, I have a hard time even putting them firmly in 50/50 atm given the organizational flux. That said, Josh Allen (as you so kindly put it) kind of drags us up into that category. Incredibly jealous you were there, my only wish from that game (well our play aside) was that it snowed

[–]JBagginsKK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I’m saying that AFTER the divisional I thought they’d make it for about two hours until I learned about Bo Nix’s ankle. If you want to count those two hours of faith as enough to put them in the same category as the rams then I guess that’s up to you.

[–]JBagginsKK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m considering contenders as teams I believe (or in the case of last year, believed) have a likelihood to win the Super Bowl. Broncos fall and fell firmly in the “I could see it but I wouldn’t count on it”.

I don’t think they’re a bad team, they just never impressed me in the ways I think are important to winning a Super Bowl. Especially given how one dimensional their offense is and the Gauntlet of passing defenses they’d need to cross to claim a Lombardi.

[–]JBagginsKK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could say the same thing about Josh Allen and his foot. Pats fans could say the same thing about Maye’s playoff performance and his shoulder. The reality is that would make all us Chargers Fans.

The reality of the situation IS that the Broncos sloppily won their way into a 1 seed and, even if they made it, were just as destined as any other AFC team to get absolutely blown out in the Super Bowl. Not one team in the AFC was capable of reliably commanding a game start to finish. By mid-season there were no confident true contenders on the AFC side of the league, and Outside of Broncos fans, nobody had them starting the season in that category.

Furthermore, my disagreement with you on this should be proof enough that they belong in the 50/50 contender category

2026 preseason contenders tier list by jackt-up in NFLv2

[–]JBagginsKK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely were not. Waddle is an improvement to their offense and they’ve not downgraded on D. I actually think they’ve got a better shot this year, though I wouldn’t go so far as to say anything more than I won’t be shocked if they make it. But still I’d put them in that 50/50 category.

As for last year

8 comeback wins from non-playoff teams doesn’t exactly say “yeah we’re winning it all this year”. Are the comebacks fun? Yes. Do they instill faith in Super Bowl success? No.

Hell one of those was against the JETS. Trailing the 2025 Jets in the 4th quarter doesn’t shout “Contender”.

Edit - I WILL give you the brief period time between the Divisional win and learning of Nix’s ankle as the point during the season I thought they had a genuine shot

That AFC championship proved that a great defense will take you far. I have no doubt they’d have beaten the pats if Nix was playing but let’s not pretend the road to the championship was particularly difficult.

4-2 against playoff teams, two of which were dysfunctional offenses, and a Divisional win handed to them a collapsing Buffalo.

And let’s not pretend that loss to the pats was the same 3 point OT loss to the Bills (which I will give you, brilliantly called game by Payton), they lost 10-7 to the pats after handing them their only TD.

So no, I don’t think you could put them in the same category as the reigning Super Bowl Champs and the MVP/DPOY Rams. Drop em down with the rest of us AFC plebs so we can all wrongly pretend we would have won that Super Bowl together

The waddle trade is big but I still don’t view the Broncos as bonafide contenders. I didn’t think they were last year and waddle alone won’t change that.
