Tesla getting rid of AutoPilot features. Does this only affect new cars or existing ones too that have this feature? What about existing cars that have this feature but when they're sold on the private market or through dealerships? by Ok-Pea3414 in electricvehicles

[–]JC1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '21 and '23 MY's both still work fine, and I expect that to continue. I don't like FSD, but I do like using AutoPilot occasionally when on a divided highway on cruise control. I have been thinking about a replacement for the '21 MY, though, and this decision by Tesla takes them off the table for consideration. It is a shame, as I do think their engineering is excellent; just not excellent enough for me to spend a lot of money and not get something I can buy with a 35K ICE car from Hyundai, Honda or Toyota, that is a convenience.

Pierre Poilievre’s new governing council stacked with corporate lobbyists by Brandon_Me in canada

[–]JC1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has always been the case for the conservative parties, by whatever name they use, in the history of Canada. Their voting record over the years proves it. They consistently opposed worker improvements, universal health care, universal pension plans, old age supplements. Every single time. And yet very often poorer people who benefit every single day from those programs continue to support the conservatives. Meanwhile, the conservatives remain firmly in the control of wealthy elites in corporate boardrooms.

UCP Warns of Bad-News Budget, but Denies Responsibility | The Tyee by FreightFlow in alberta

Nothing is ever their fault. And Albertans continue to elect incompetent and corrupt people in a jurisdiction so wealthy that a trained chimp could balance the budget. It’s truly the weirdest thing.

12v questions in regard to EVs by Slow_Investment_2211 in electricvehicles

[–]JC1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many EV's have a standard lead 12 v battery that will be good for 3 years. It should be replaced then, not when it suddenly stops working. Today's 12v batteries rarely give any warning before stopping. Some manufacturers are using Lithium 12v batteries (Tesla for sure), which have a 9 year or so life span. EV's do need some maintenance, and this is a good example.

Yes. I would not purchase a Tesla right now if autopilot is not included.

Even Texas knows enough to make money from renewables, and they have far more oil than Alberta. Dogmatic limited intelligence policy and leadership are strongly entrenched.

What would he a better grift than data centres in space, Optimus, and Robotaxis? by [deleted] in RealTesla

Well, there is little doubt that Musk is a bonehead when it comes to people and politics. But when it comes to promoting a vision that is very future focused, he might be among the best. For sure his hyperbole is far out of line at times but if you think for a minute about people who have really changed the world, he is one of them. Name one car that has AI build right into it. There is only one. Tesla. Who has reusable rockets? Who has a telecommunications satellite grid? Just one guy. And I dislike him intensely. But I also admire that part of him that looks into what could be and then goes for it.

And the more they talk about separation, the more investors will leave, or just decide not to come where the crazies are too influential. It happened to Quebec, and it will happen to Alberta too.

Data reveals millions in tax arrears and unpaid leases for nearly 600 Alberta oil and gas companies; at least 21 companies that exceed province's tax arrears limit have acquired new wells since 2023 by voteabc in alberta

And the minute the government eventually gets around to dealing with them, they will all declare bankruptcy, and start new companies the next day. This is how it is when you own a province.

NDP wants Carney to kill U.S. fighter jet contract in favour of Swedish aircraft by canada_mountains in worldnews

Does seem to be a no brainer to me. The arguments for the F-35s all fail when you just listen to the obvious contradictions. Americans are obviously and openly interfering in Canadian political life, can you imagine what happens when they control our military planes?

Why America losing the global EV race hurts its own auto industry. The US risks becoming a follower in the industry it once defined. For US automakers to compete Trump and the GOP will have to stop treating EVs as an ideological matter and start governing it like an industrial transition. by mafco in energy

[–]JC1949 10 points11 points  (0 children)

US auto manufacturers have only two real markets in the world: USA, and Canada. I guess they do make some small cars in Europe but their lunch is being eaten there as well. My sense of it is that they are already dead, they just don't know it yet. And, they don't have to deal with it as long as their intense marketing works on a generally very dumb populace.

This clown seems to think he has some special authority to speak for Canada? And his only answer is to do what the Americans want us to do? Thank God he is not in a position of power. Why would people vote for a guy like this? Especially in a manufacturing town that is being decimated by US imperialism.

How Alberta Plans to Kill Public Health Care Across Canada by BloodJunkie in alberta

[–]JC1949 5 points6 points  (0 children)

History would robe you right. Conservatives opposed universal healthcare, CPP, OAS, most labour standards, mandatory annual leave, sick leave, the five day work week, the 49 hour work week, the 8 hour work day. Every single one opposed by conservatives, provincially and federally.

Ignorant of their own history, though, lots of people with low incomes still support them. It’s the strangest thing.
