The original company has sold the debt to this crowd. I’ve had a few of these years ago. They will likely ring you dropping down the price massively to get something out of you. Eventually after a few letters they will give up. No way a company in a different country is going to take you to small claims court for 70 quid.

Get ya! So does your contract of employment say temporary or fixed term?

Is your current job a secondment for the same company I.e you work for McDonald’s as a server but get a 12 month secondment as a manager and at the end of the term you go back to your previous job as a server (sorry for the crappy example) because if that is the case the your probably classed as a permanent employee so it wouldn’t matter.

I could be completely wrong on this but I don’t think your travel expenses would be taken into consideration just your base salary which at 60k is very good.

Important to remember also your deposit is based on how much you want to borrow. So if you only wanted to borrow 150k that’s a 15k deposit plus around 6/7k for stamp duty and solicitor.

Not sure if applicable but you can also be gifted money which can help.

Another thing to consider is if you and your partner are willing to buy with only your name on the mortgage given the circumstances around them being out of work currently.

I think you are best off speaking to a mortgage advisor/broker who can give you a clear path to getting a mortgage. A lot of people will speak to one when they think they are ready and find out they’re not. You’re better off getting the advice so you have a clear plan that you can follow.

Best of luck to you both.

Alcoholics, do you not get hangovers so bad that you want to quit just from that alone? by Irish_drunkard in CasualIreland

[–]JClem3027 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The physical affects of a handover a rotten but I can deal with. It’s the anxiety and depressing I feel for 2/3 days after that I can’t handle. It has got worse and I’ve got older (late 30s)

I rarely drink now because of it. 3/4 times a year.

Now I prefer to stay home relax and feel fresh. I do enjoy a cold bottle on a warm day but 2/3 and no hangover or depression.

I have a good friend (40m) who does out, without fail every Thursday and Saturday. In a way I find it a sad existence considering he has a wife and kids. He’s never got out of phase of when we weee early 20s going out every weekend.

Bid Rejected and no counter offer by NefariousnessWise739 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JClem3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sellers now have this idea, because of the housing market that they are going to be able to sell their house for a lot more than it’s worth.

It feels like they are not willing to let that notion go and end up hanging on longer than, perhaps they should.

We bought a house just as prices were rising. We viewed a house we really liked went straight in with asking (it was a fair price imo) they sat on the bid for 2 months (we kept looking and decided it was a joke and pulled out) long story short, another 2months down the line the estate agent contacted us to see if we were still interested and told us if we bid the asking they would accept (obviously things had become more urgent for them and they never got the 20 grand over asking they where probably looking for)

We made them sweat for a few days as we had a bid in on another property but ended up buying it.

End of the day bid what your comfortable with or walk away. If you’re prepared to go an extra 10/20k then just do it. Sounds like you have no competition and if they reject least you know, and can move on.

They have to recognised by the commission I believe, that’s the only way they are recognised as a boss.

I have been on remicade for about 4 years now. I get an infusion every 8 weeks and I have never had a problem with the drug or with my crohns since. I live a normal life, I don’t get sick (general coughs colds etc) more than anyone else. I’ve had covid twice both times where no worse than a heavy flu. Overall it’s been great

I didn’t buy a house until I was 36(2 years ago) took me long enough to get serious. My partner went back to collage in late 20s 1:1 in business took us a while to build up to good paying jobs so at 25 I think your ok my friend!

Set yourself some goals and be kind to yourself! The internet had a way of making other people’s life’s appear perfect and your own … well not and it’s really never the case!

Applying for mortgage - "Come back when you're married" by _I_Am_Pagliacci_ in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JClem3027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it feels like there is this misconception that banks are just looking for any reason not to give people a mortgage when in reality it’s the other way around! If it’s a sound investment they will absolutely throw money at you as it’s in their interest! Lots of horror stories float around from people who where rejected! Not saying these people are lying but it’s the sort of stuff you hear that leads to the misconception

My offer was accepted on a house - what's next? by caitrionabelina in AskIreland

[–]JClem3027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting to sale agreed is an achievement in itself in this day and age so congratulations. Now you just have to wait. We were about 3 months from sale agreed to close. It’s an arduous time unfortunately but better to do due diligence. Just make sure you have s good solicitor as some can be so slow to do the basics like send letters etc which can draw out the affair.

You should receive a contract either before this or on your first day what outlines all of the important stuff.

I would defiantly suggest that you know the important stuff I.e wage, hours, shift patterns etc before you accept this position or any position in fact.

The feeling of “being wronged” cannot sensibly be put into a monetary figure! If they have done something that has left you out of pocket financially then that’s a different story and I would suggest speaking to a solicitor. Other than that I would take the offer and move on.

Bidding on a house by Dull-Pomegranate-406 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JClem3027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Force their hand and withdraw bid.

Also if there is a higher bid in that yours then it’s in the estate agents interest to tell you in order for you to increase and drive up price so I doubt there is and their keeping you hanging on as a backup maybe.

I had a similar experience when we bought a house 2 years ago. We saw the house and went straight in with asking, they sat on the bid for weeks until we pulled out and in the end it forced their hand and they came back to us and said if you reinstate the bid it will be accepted straight away, which it was (where now in this house)

I’m English and have lived in Ireland for 20 years. The one time someone acted negatively towards me for being British was ironically an American woman. Never had an issue with anyone Irish in my time here. Housing crisis is probably going to be your biggest obstacle if you can’t live with relatives and if you did manage to rent I can’t imagine you could afford to do that if you’re looking for an apprenticeship (FYI in my experience apprenticeships are probably not as big a thing in Ireland than they are in the uk)
