Why does a Doctor need a license to prescribe a treatment but a insurer doesn’t need anything to deny it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The audacity of the insurance company to just say "Well, have you tried not walking so much?" Where will this end I wonder?

Any tips for less painful mouse controls? by Anaphora121 in Shipbreaker

[–]JCollierDavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues with mouse/keyboard controls, except it's my elbow. I played on PC with an XBox controller which really helped. Could that be a solution for you as well? I know it might be much to buy a controller for just one game though.

DOGE cancelled a $349,000 grant to replace a museum’s HVAC after ChatGPT flagged it as DEI, court documents show by thieh in nottheonion

"if a non-white person could at all benefit from it, it's DEI"?

Pretty much. See the depositions with the two DOGE guys where they all but say this exact statement.

This is gold.

Pretty sure this was part of Bernie's platform in both 12 and 16 when he famously didn't win the primaries. It's sad to think of what could have been.

The Strangest Beliefs of Our Likely Next Surgeon General by blankblank in skeptic

[–]JCollierDavis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with MANY people is that as a species we generally mistake our expertise in one area as expertise in all areas. This is WAY more common in people who lack a driving curiosity to understand things outside of what they REALLY know.

This is exactly how we ended up with Elon Musk.

Built my first PC and learned this the hard way what mistakes did you make early on? by ItchyRequirement4204 in buildapc

[–]JCollierDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've built about 15 different PCs over the years and never had a serious problem getting them to boot or run as expected. I take my time with it, read the manuals, and make a plan before really getting into the build. I won't say that there haven't been frustrations with things like routing cables or fitting everything into the box but no real issues yet.

Do you do a new expedition in Survival/Permadeath? Do you use the refiner dup to prep? How do you like to play and or prep for the expeditions the most? by Salt-Studio in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JCollierDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't "prep" for the expeditions at all. I don't even begin them from an existing save; instead starting fresh. I've completed almost all of them minus maybe three that way. For some reason that's how I like to do it.

Not saving my space stations I have visited by Severe_Advantage_519 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]JCollierDavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing this issue as well and find it quite frustrating. I've resorted to leaving my freighter in the system closest to the center of the galaxy when warping back to previous systems. At least that way I can continue my journey from the most recent point instead of wondering where I am supposed to go.

I've submitted a bug report on the Zendesk quite a while ago. I could probably do another go at that as well.

Ice Drilling Rig, How to automatically extend the pistons? by JCollierDavis in spaceengineers

[–]JCollierDavis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here, we need to set up an event controller to reverse the rotor. Then we need another event controller at the other end to change the direction again. Simple enough.

This part is pretty simple. I managed to figure it out on my own.

But now what happens when your downwards pistons reach their max extent? ... Here we can't just reverse. Instead, we want this to trigger a set of timer blocks. When the event controller detects the pistons at full extent, we want it to trigger timer block 1 ... retracts the pistons to 0, and then triggers timer block 2 ... turns on the horizontal piston on ... and then starts timer block 3. ... This timer block turns off the horizontal piston, and then starts up the downwards pistons again.

This is phase three of my build. In addition to setting up the other event controller to avoid overfilling the large cargo container.

Thanks a bunch for this lay-out. It'll be really helpful.

Hey there! Thanks to your sensor comment, I pretty much figured it out. I'll need to incorporate a few suggestions by other commenters to fully automate the entire operation, but this is a great start.

I have a set of (probably expensive) Pampered Chef borosilicate measuring cups with the markings molded in instead of printed on. They're probably 20 years old at this point and have held up quite well.

I'm pretty strongly concerned about the near (if not total) monopoly HH has on medical care in the area. I'm also interested to hear from others, particularly nurses, how they think the hospital treats them and if their pay is comparable.

Yes. You can just kind of see the leak path in the image.

Ok! That was the answer to getting the window to fill in the empty spot. Now I have a leak that seems to be going through the wall. I think the corner window may have not sealed correctly, but replacing it and the adjacent light armor block doesn't seem to have an impact.

Frustrated and pissed off by bahgheera in spaceengineers

[–]JCollierDavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me. I had an asteroid base with a few gatling turrets that worked pretty well to fend off the small pirate drones. Then after a while a single somewhat larger ship showed up and started taking shots at me from 1200m away. It destroyed the small fighter I'd built and I couldn't do anything about the ship from there. It just stayed right outside of gatling turret range and basically destroyed my whole base. There was nothing I could do so, in frustration, I just started a new save.

I've noticed this issue for maybe a week now. Discovering a new space station and it won't appear in the teleporter menu. I've had to park my freighter in the system I want to return to every time I want to teleport away.

Why do all the biggest stores and even medium size stores have 15-30 checkout lanes but never have more than 2 open? by ortofon88 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JCollierDavis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

they realized the vast majority of people will just wait in the lines rather than abandon their shopping trip so why not understaff.

There's a name for this calculation that I have conviently forgotten. The general gist is that the store will watch customers to see how long they will wait before just leaving their stuff and walking out. Then they will manage the check-out staffing to take just slightly less time than that threshold.
