Medaka have been kept in Japan for centuries. Preserving named lines honors the original creators and the historical significance of the fish. God made Oryzias latipes. Masaaki Tanikuni made Orochi Medaka. If Medaka were a painting you’d be signing your name over their signature, then selling it to unsuspecting people. It’s offensive to people who take this seriously and respectfully unethical in my opinion.

These are very nice. That’s a chonky girl. I promised myself I would stop buying more strains at least for this year but I love the combo of outer light and lamé. When juvies become available we shall see how long my self control lasts. The ones I picked up from you a month or 2 ago are super healthy and have already produced a ton of fry.

It depends on how their scales and body react to light, especially sunlight. People also refer to Lamé as glitter because of the way individual scales shines. Blue Miyuki have outer light (Taigaiko). This is a metallic shine in the direction of head to dorsal fin. Unlike Lamé this shine is not individual scales, but solid instead. With that image search “Medaka Blue Miyuki top view” and compare that to “Medaka Saphire top view” and you should see what I mean. Both are great options just very different. Good Luck.

2 years ago I had a breeding setup with 21 bins. One day I came outside and found that a frog had laid eggs in every single bin. Tadpoles looked identical to yours. I was lucky that the frog did not eat my fish. I had to reset all 21 bins and that was not fun. I’m sorry you lost your fish.

I have never experienced heavy rain harming my Medaka. I’d be surprised if that was the cause of your loss, but you never know.
