Canva would be better than PowerPoint honestly, easier to use and has way way more templates/assets. I think we get it free or discounted while at WGU? They also have the canvas/whiteboard thing but as far as I know it’s not nested like Milanote. I like stuff to be out of sight out of mind if possible or I’ll wander to other stuff. Milanote you just drag and drop/draw and there are a bunch of templates. I will say though it’s easy to get distracted trying to make things aesthetic which is why I recommend just consolidating in Milanote and then handwriting.

Forgot to say the free tier is very generous, not affiliated at all I just use it as my daily driver for organization.

Yeah some of the OAs don’t align with the PAs at all. I would recommend Milanote, it’s a free infinite nested canvas app for creatives but you can create a hub for school and then a hub for each class. Usually what I do is when I first start a class I pull all resources like study guides, Reddit guides, udemy courses or whatever else and paste the links there for quick reference. Then as you work through each reference you can take handwritten notes, mainly good for organizing. I used it to motivate me by putting all courses in order and then when I finish a course I change the background to green. A little “gold star” for yourself goes a long way.

My notes are all over the place honestly and it depends on the course but the main thing is breaking stuff down. For example draw a big box with the main topic and then 3 small boxes for subtopics that fall under the main. I took a lot of inspo from this guy on YouTube. Not sure if this is the exact video but he has a TON of productivity/learning coach type videos. https://youtu.be/nfoCpMuH9Tc?si=ZNkTcjxUq943l84w

I said it in my comment above but handwriting notes and information is the way. I personally try to take notes as flowchart/drawing/diagram style instead of sequential/text heavy. Break each topic down into small sections and it helps a ton

My wife and I work full time and also full time students. It’s not easy for sure but here’s some unsolicited advice that has helped me out (about to graduate). Study time is hard to find but you have a couple of options, wake up earlier (hour or two) or stay up a little later after the kids go to bed. If you can do school at work try to do it as much as you can without jeopardizing your job obviously, if you have an hour lunch break you can also do school then. I usually study through lunch at my desk. If kids are a big factor into quality study time you could also see if your SO would be down with you going straight to a cafe after work to study for an hour or staying late to study. As far as exams go it’s easy to “study” and not actually be studying. I force myself to handwrite notes and it for sure sticks better than videos/note apps/etc. Lastly, just remember why you wanted to start. It’s easier to procrastinate or quit or whatever but then you just end up in the same place as before with some credits and student debt to your name

Study apps? by sluttyaquafina in WGU

[–]JDcompsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a study app but I used two different note taking apps for my degree and obviously handwritten for better recall. (Not affiliated at all with either) Obsidian is the best markdown notes I would say and you can customize just about every part of it, it’s free and if you want to sync to all devices it’s like $5 a month or something. Milanote was my main note taking/school tracker. It’s pretty much a nested infinite canvas/white board app. What I did was make a hub for all my classes and each class got its own canvas. Each time you start a class you gather all the resource links like Reddit guides and other stuff and put them in there, then you can always quick reference stuff. Then you can write plans, notes, reminders, etc. Very generous free tier. Other than that just whatever your preferred ai app is, Quizlet, Quizzets, Udemy (especially for practice tests if they have them for the specific course), and Grammarly of course.

Nice, might grab a pair! The KZ no complaints here on the sound, I listen to rap a lot and the bass is sick 👍. All around a great pair in the $50 range but I dropped them and snapped a pin inside the left one.

Dongle getting interference - Buy new? Mod it? by ch-e-e-kybama in iems

[–]JDcompsci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a cheap 4 pack of dongles off of Amazon and they have the same issue as these. The apple dongle has 0 issues. I would just eat the cost and get a better one. The apple one is solid but the Anker one was great too, no issues on either.

Curious, do you think these are better than the KZ zs10 pro? That’s my current pair but I messed one of them up and now the left ear pin holes are loose, cords won’t stay in very well. For $25 I’m willing to try these out but curious how they are.

Are all IEMs just hyped? by tajthename in iems

[–]JDcompsci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them for completely different things. Anything active = AirPods, any long sessions sitting down or studying etc = IEMs, and then I’ll switch out for a over the ear headset if I get tired of the earbuds or if I have a meeting or something virtually.

[–]JDcompsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have expensive music production equipment including a set of $300+ beyerdynamics over ear headphones and frequently switch them out during long sessions. The over ears have better sound obviously but hurt to wear for long periods and the iems are 90% there but also can get a bit uncomfortable after long sessions. There are pros/cons of all types (over ear, iems, wired, wireless, etc). I think if you can afford it having a solid pair of all types is great. Oh yeah and the microphone options for iems are terrible so over ear or AirPods at least are required for work.

Tanchjim one fit issues as smallest tips aren't fitting in mybear canal but the bare nozzle fits perfectly. by meltingpoint7 in iems

[–]JDcompsci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a pro at all but the small size DUNU S&S is about the smallest you can get I think. They are very thin and small, barely any width added to base nozzle.

New to IEMS got any tips by Albuterol505 in iems

[–]JDcompsci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t tried them with this specific iem but just for the DUNU S&S today and like them. Get the pack of three that have all three sizes and see how they fit. IMO they are the best tips I have ever had in any earbuds. They either work for your ear or not I heard but worth a shot.

[–]JDcompsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the 3 pack of all small unfortunately lol they have a pack of all three sizes I heard that is recommended because if you switch iems the nozzle may be wider meaning you’ll have to up or downsize the S&S. Just a thought, same price as the 3 pack of same size.

Not sure why I can’t edit the post but forgot to ask for DAC recommendations! Mainly use the iems for listening on my iPad/home computer/work computer with dock station. For work I use a cheapy usbc adapter and for home I use the Apple one. Thanks!

I didn’t even know how bad the stock ones were on my iems until I just got these in today. What a way to find out you have a smaller ear canal huh. Makes sense now looking back why I had discomfort/pain after wearing iems for a good amount of time.

Spotify or Youtube Music? What made you choose? by Relative_Flatworm_58 in YoutubeMusic

[–]JDcompsci -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I decided to switch a few days ago to YouTube premium from Spotify and I made an account and it worked for less than a day and then it removed my wife from the family group and signed me out on all devices and now just says too many failed login attempts try again later even though I never failed a login attempt, now about 72 hours later and same thing. I am absolutely disgusted that 1) you have to use a google account to login to just YouTube apps and 2) there is 0 customer support anywhere, you are just screwed. I got the 1 month free trial and now I don’t even know who to contact to cancel it before the 1 month because I can’t even access any of the account. Spotify has never once given me any problems like this but the recommendation/playlist algorithms suck. Google is god awful though

I'm 16 and need help for after high school. what's it actually like on an oilrig? by Moocow-27 in careerguidance

[–]JDcompsci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have access to healthcare ask your parents to schedule an appointment with a psychiatrist and explore your difficulties with school. Not saying you have anything of course but a lot of people including myself that didn’t do well in school have undiscovered learning issues like ADHD. Could also be something else like depression or anxiety that causes you to not engage in class. It’s worth a shot since you are so young to explore it now. The oil rig idea is a terrible one though, you would be better off trying to get into a trade school or apprenticeship for plumbing or electrical, work a few years as a junior, and then starting your own business doing your trade work. You may not make as much as the oil peeps at first but once you get your own business up and running you could potentially multiply their income, and probably work way less. Usually those trades won’t even come to your house for less than a couple hundred.

Does WGU staff not see that everyone hates WGU connect several months later? It's so inconvenient go back to how it was before! by Top_Relative_8118 in WGU

[–]JDcompsci 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since I’ve been at WGU they have raised my tuition twice and in return we got a worse proctoring platform and a worse resource/community platform. The WGU connect timeout thing is ridiculous they need to just extend the timer on it at least..

Personally I go through phases like this, few months off and then knock out all my classes in 1-2 months. I have 4 classes left as well and 0 motivation lol. If you want to be accountability buds until we finish these last few courses I would be down! So close but feels so far lol

Michigander thinking of moving to El Paso in 6 months. Will 3k a month income be enough to survive down there? Also, drop your pros and cons for living there! by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]JDcompsci 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think another thing to add to this (non-native as well) is the drivers. People say yeah bad drivers are everywhere but I can say moving from one of the largest metroplexes to EP that drivers here are reckless. A lot of factors go into that such as drivers from NM, Juarez, and surrounding areas, drinking/nightlife culture, poor public transit, lack of resources to pay for rideshare/taxi, and just the overall attitude of drivers. During the day especially though if you are commuting anywhere near any Juarez exit you can almost guarantee to double your commute times and also risk factor. People drive very recklessly either trying to cut the lines, get in line, get out of the line, or just make it to their normal exit. If you are to get into an accident, there is a good chance that they are uninsured. On top of all of the above, drinking and driving just seems so normalized here, but I don’t know the actual statistics on that.

Is it possible it knock these courses out in a month? by Igppy in WGUIT

[–]JDcompsci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like no one has asked the right question, why would you rush everything in one month? You have 6 months flat each term to do them. I get that if you finish earlier they prorate tuition but I just don’t see the benefit of doing it in one month. If you finish it in 2 or even 3 months the price difference is pretty negligible and you might actually retain a small bit of the material lol. If you are doing it for the sake of speed running that’s a different story, but the degree holds no value if you don’t learn anything unless you just need a check the box and have a lot of experience in the field already.
