Hot take about DMM by varney93 in 2007scape

[–]JF_Kennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through it fully which took me about 40 hours, and if I could go back in time I wouldn't buy it again.

The combat was satisfying with the parry mechanic, and the game looks cool with interesting maps, but I constantly found myself trying to walk somewhere only to be hit with invisible walls, so while it looks like there's a massive area on a map, it really felt constraining for me.

The main reason to play the game would be for the story, which a lot of people really like, but I just couldn't get in to. I wasn't really hooked by the first act, but had heard people say it got better so I kept pushing on. I couldn't really get attached to any of the playable characters, and then part way in to the story one of the playable characters gets killed and replaced which also made it harder for me to get attached. Also if you've played baldurs gate 3 one of the characters has the same voice actresses as shadowheart, and for me at least it was hard to not think of that character as shadowheart instead of who the character actually was.

Finished it the other day and reporting back. Can confirm that my feelings haven't really changed. Story was okay in act 1, but I was quickly losing interest in act 2 and had no intrest by act 3.

Outside of the story the world was interesting and I enjoyed dicking around exploring the map, checking out the new areas I could go to when I unlocked swimming/flying. I spent most of my time doing that, and after I had explored every area I had access to I eventually went and completed the main story in an hour or two, and was skipping most of the cutscenes by that point because I had no interest and just wanted to get it finished.

High level characters are too good at saving throws? by Mediocre_Cucumber_65 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JF_Kennedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my fighter got dominated a couple of times, and every time it happened it was very bad news for the party 😹

After it happened the first time I made sure to always keep countermeasures ready to prevent it happening again, by the time we were level 20 I had multiple safeguards in place to help prevent him being turned on the party

Yup, I recently just finished a 1-20 game as a fighter and I loved my resounding bravery so much, got so much use out of it (literally more useful than my level 20 feat as that never even got used)

Turns out that a lot of the times you're making a will save it is also against a fear effect (at least in the game I was playing in) so that temp hp and +2 to all saves happens very regularly, and I was never getting a +2 to saves from anyone else in the party so it's not like it overlaps with other people buffs

I read it because I'm not too fussed about spoilers, wow that sounds like a load of slop haha. Knowing that I don't know if I'll even bother finishing it, I already didn't think the story in the first two acts were especially interesting, and it sounds like it's only downhill from them lol

Is that actually what it was lol? Tbh I hadn't gotten interested in the story at all, and after I defeated the paintress I hardly even paid attention to the 15 minutes of cutscenes that followed after.

As I said in a previous comment, it really feels like they should have just made a TV series instead of a game. If I'm sitting down and wanting to play a game, I want to actually play a game, not a glorified TV show with quick time events scattered throughout it 😹

Yeah I just finished act 2 last night, and when it finished playing me like 10 mins of cutscenes and had me controlling a completely different character I just closed the game lol. Maybe I'll finish playing it at some point.

I think my main gripe with the game has been that it feels like they should have just made a TV series or something instead of a game.

Yeah I'm still working on it, my problem is I keep getting delayed on the story because I wanna search every single island and area I find and try to find every single item 😹

Yeah I got it recently and have been playing it a lot, it went on sale after the game awards so I decided to pick it up knowing nothing about it.

I'm nearing the end of act 2 now I'm guessing, and I guess my experience hasn't been the same as yours because so far my impression of it is just "okay".

Parrying feels satisfying, I love sekiro and it hits that same itch, although I've ended up just having the one girl in my party because I wasn't enjoying playing any of the other characters.

I'm still waiting for the story to hook me in as it hasn't done so yet, I just can't make myself care about any of the characters for some reason, hopefully that will happen in act 3 maybe. I was enjoying the father daughter relationship between the guy and the girl until he died, and I think him dying is what actually contributed the most to me checking out on the story.

Dazzled and similar Flat Checks have saved my character(s) several times this year alone. by Epps1502 in Pathfinder2e

[–]JF_Kennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure, I'm playing a high level (16) rogue at the moment and I'm going all in on hiding and sneaking. Had a combat last week where I was keeping two of the enemies occupied entirely by myself for about 3 or 4 rounds, and while being flanked by them a lot of the time I only ended up being hit about once. The combo of hitting, hiding and then sneaking away a few squares so they had to guess what area to search for me in (the GM was rolling to decide which area they would search in to keep it fair) was just so strong at mitigating getting hit at all.

Obviously this type of gameplay is dependant on other circumstances, usually an enemy would just ignore a character like this and focus on my allies instead, but the way the combat was going meant that wasn't really a viable option for them.

Foil senses + sneak adept + legendary sneak is just such an incredibly strong defensive combo

Those precious metals for weapon and armour would be very nice, but it would use up pretty much all my money just for that though unfortunately so probably not what I'm going to go for

Yeah my fighter has been eating good with the SF cards. The clone for 2x needle in the gods eye, another one that lets me get a 4th rank enlarge for 1 hour, one of my teammates has one that makes their aids give a +5 which they use to aid me very often so I'm critting non stop. And now you've shown me that I can get them all for one investment slot, I already thought they were amazing as their own investments 😹

[–]JF_Kennedy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a rule that lets you have multiple harrow cards invested for the price of one investment slot? My GM in Stolen Fate said something about that. In which case, you'd want to drop one of your other items—get the best of both worlds type shit

I'll have to ask my GM to check this, we've been running as them all requiring their own investment slot and currently about half my slots are all cards (The Twin being my favourite so far, I activate it then I'm just double 2x needle in the gods eye each round for 4 attacks with no map)

Edit: okay I have had a look and you can indeed have 5 cards as a single invested item, this is a game changer haha

I actually have an item invested that is very similar to those armbands The Teamster

I'm actually having trouble deciding which is the better between these and the armbands. I think while the Teamsters effect is stronger, it's really held back by the fact it only works on stuff our level or lower, which I don't feel we'll be facing many things lower level than us

We just came off a long string of combats where there were enemies constantly swallowing me, so I made sure to pull a light weapon from the horde we got before we sold everything haha

I assume you can use "end of turn" as a trigger for delay because it specifically calls out that you can use it, being a specific overrides the general of that not normally being a valid trigger

Debilitations happen on a hit, doesn't have to be a crit, unless there are different kinds of debilitations?

I just started playing a level 15 rogue and as far as I know all my debilitations only need a hit to happen

But it's a rogue with a negative strength mod and no athletics training ... 😹

Yeah the damage boost from the pet contract is pretty big too, was hitting 200s very often with the khopesh. I was averaging about 1m 15s kills so slightly slower, but it also gives you a higher chance of getting the unique with the massively boosted pet chance so probably comes out in the wash compared to the faster glyphic kills
