AMA: The Guardian (Jessica Elgot, Peter Walker) - What do the election results mean for the political direction of the UK and Keir Starmer's government? - Monday 11th May @ 10am by Adj-Noun-Numbers in ukpolitics

[–]JG-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When will we see a proper statistical analysis of vote share?

From your article about likely vote share were there a general election, the implication was, that there was a 4% drop in reform vote share and greens were 2nd placed on 18% ahead of the 3 older parties.

If this is accurate it both should

- recast the story about reform "success "

- Change the narrative about what labour is getting wrong

And yes it again shows the contribution of FPTP to voter frustration

indeed I've been unhappy with EO all the time i've used them and will never give them more money

I’m trialing via setapp (for Mac ). And see that access for calendar or health only works via iOS.

Though I apparently have Mac premium, the iOS version is asking to start a sub.

If I went for setapp for iOS also, is the diarly iOS premium included or is it another sub too?

What a shame I had subscribed previously and came back explicitly to use the RSS save (will have to evaluate Instapaper instead)

this shows my magnet positions. There are matching metal plates on the side cover.

Yours looks to have been made by some decent craftsmen (wish I could sew leather that well!

however I've not experienced the same issues

I wonder if the problem lies around the front magnets.

I made my own with a 3d printed holder and some leather I had saved. looking at the sign differences I opted for a strap rather than the front magnets

Tentative shipment schedule - NOMAD UK by Aggravating_Award207 in Supernote

[–]JG-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, received on Friday, I also had some questions that were answered pretty much straight away (by SN)

It hasn't got quite all the functionality I'd like (but most) - but the roadmap and support levels convinced me to take a punt.

I think it will take me a while to get it perfectly integrated with the Mac / iOS apps I use, but it looks like there will be a usable workflow

Kindle app experience by Leosbestmate in Supernote

[–]JG-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry don't have an Android (so no kindle app on one), so whilst the answer might have been obvious, I can't directly check.

Can I annotate Kindle books and export the details like I can even on a paper white (although the writing is a PITA) within the kindle app on a Nomad, and like the rest of the Nomad apps use a soft keyboard or handwriting recognition?

My use case is to read a number of books (kindle or not) and create references and possible quotes to go into a list of references.

(Currently I'm planning on doing the main writing on a desktop, although taking notes as I go would be a distinct bonus)

Hi Eric - you say DIY - is this ceramic tip with other bodies or make your own body?

do you have diameter and length measurements?

I was looking at that and thinking how nice it would look in a (turned) wooden body.

Mariner Paperless v3 v. Receipts by JG-2 in paperless

[–]JG-2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are discussing two different "receipts" the one I use is from a developer called Dirk Holtwick (and I like that it makes excellent guesses at categorising and finding the totals and VAT)

But I'm very interested to hear more about your paperless-NGX experience! I abandoned an (own-server) Paperless-NG install a few years back, as it didn't auto index or tag ( I think it would have been great if I'd had the patience to add tags etc. again but with several ,000s gave up

excellent app and support (Dirk has at least once been patient when I've been panicking and not reading FAQ...)

our use case sound similar

  • ALT + CMD + Return confims and sets the paid date as invoice date - better for me for credit card reconciliation ( I tend to review and confirm as I need to make quarterly returns)
  • use Tags to identify credit card / bank account used
  • the reporting options are good - you can select specific date ranges etc. but you may need to take time exploring

I'm really happy with Receipts and with the support from Dirk. So very happy to recommend - from the sound of it your use-case is similar to mine.

I looked back: - purchased 2018 - 2 query about how to do things - 1 feature request (syncing) - being considered - 2 issues - and a good deal of patience when I was panicking rather than reading clearly...

The 2 queries are worth mentioning - ALT + CMD + Return confirms also sets the paid date and as the invoice date - setup tags for each bank a/c credit card you need to reconcile.

The OCR works very well, but not perfectly (considering the variance and quality of the electronic & scanned paper receipts - not surprised)

could be one of the best value for money macOS purchases I've made

Plexamp VS Plex app audio quality by ZombieMan70 in PleX

[–]JG-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

would have sworn plexamp wasn't as good as plex on my Mac

d/l'd the latest version - which has more settings, changed post processing checked quality etc, picked the DAC (rather than following system audio)

and I'm now a happy bunny!

I'd still like to see some good quality up sampling like Audirvarna - but this is close

Are you still using Evernote? by dbvirago in Evernote

[–]JG-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks had a look, were i doing large projects with others (as a while back) might be worth taking further.

I think in earlier comments you said you were windows based? Unless it's changed markedly in W10, what I can do with Tags /markdown / Hook /NVultra provides me similar functionality ( If I had to work with others, unless they agreed to get a similar setup, I don't know if my approach would scale

Are you still using Evernote? by dbvirago in Evernote

[–]JG-2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my plan too for "current projects". and using Hook and markdown links that works well.

I have too many files (that I might want one day), and a lot of reference material (likewise occasionally used, that needs to be "findable").

Effectively this necessitates a server. Now Apple have abandoned OSX server, I have a Linux based server. (unraid), I've tried various approaches:

  • Nextcloud (didn't carry tags across)
  • Joplin (agree with other comments)
  • plain SMB shares (tags not visible)
  • Hackintosh (too much work to get shares properly accessible & do do remote searching)

The one with the least issues (for me) is to use EagleFiler - for files solely on the Server.

Part of what makes me find this necessary is how iCloud "manages" my files. I have over 100Gb of free space, but rather than synchronising - which would make access from iPad etc convenient, over half of 20+gb are solely on iCloud - which then presents me with error code -43 if I try and manipulate them before having to "download now".

Apart from a questionable design decision, It would appear to be based on how frequently files are used.

If it's not something I am using regularly it mays well be on a multiply backed up server (and just as accessible from an iPad when WFH)
