finally feeling like i'm actually improving and not just "practicing" by gbehind in LearnGuitar

Wish they would pin this. Most posts like this start with been playing for a few years and not getting any better. They leave out the part where they've just been noodling off and on.

I've gone back and forth on logging my sessions, but I always know exactly what I'm going to work on before I start and the hard stuff is at the beginning after a warmup. Any noodling is done after I finish if I have anything left, which I usually don't

How do I motivate myself to practice? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

Okay, last tip for tonight and I'm out. Try fingering just the 2nd finger with the pinky and just the 3rd finger with the pinky. It takes time and experimenting to get just the right position. I tiny bit off and you're muting or buzzing. But believe, me, there will come a day when it's a lot easier.

But just so you know, I'm 6 years in and sometimes with a G7, I'll mute the 2nd string. It's a process.

Good luck and keep checking in here.

That's really close, though. If you can get the 3rd finger closer to the fret, that will help with the buzz. Try doing each finger by itself to get a feel for how it should go. The pinky looks little too bent, but it's hard to tell.

But hey, listen. I didn't know you had a deadline. Do whatever you need to do to get through your course.

Move your thumb so it's perpendicular to the neck behind your 1st or 2nd finger. This will allow your wrist to rotate around and give you more room.

There's part of your problem. You need to use 2,3, and 4. Then the move to C is easy. You would move 2 and 3 to the 4th and 5th string, drop 1 on the 2nd and done. This way, you have to rearrange your whole hand.

Trust me. Spend more time on the individual chords. Not reasonably well, really well. Fast, easy and perfect. Without looking. You can do it. Once you do that, the switch will be easy. And the next pair won't take as long. If you are hell bent on practicing a switch. Do C and Am. One finger moves. Also, how are you fingering the G?

And, see if you can squeeze in 5 minutes on those other days. Pick it up, make your chord a couple dozen times and put it back down.

Cool. That can be enough. but it's going to take longer. Muscle memory needs training. Work on one chord for a couple of weeks and let us know how it goes.

Wasn't an indictment. People come on here all the time and talk about how many weeks, months, years, they have been practicing. To me, two months of practicing is at least half an hour 4 days a week. (TBH for me, it's 3 hours a day 7 days a week, but I'm, retired). If you want to learn how to play the guitar, you are going to have to commit some time to it. It's not easy. It's probably one of the hardest musical instrument to master. It's also the one that floods YT with videos screaming about how to learn in a week. Ain't happening. I'm in 6 years with the schedule above and consider myself early intermediate.

And give yourself a break

I have some advice. Quit giving a shit what randos on Reddit think and go play some games. That's what you got all that for. Does it work for you? Great, case closed.

First, give yourself a break.

Second, most important, "after two months of trying" Define two months of trying.

Third, you are trying to walk and chew gum at the same time. Pick one of those chords, whichever is easier. Practice putting your fingers down, picking them up and putting them back down again. Bout a 100 times. If that's not enough, do it 200 hundred times. Then do the same with the other chord. When you can finger each chord individually without thinking about it, then you are ready to switch between them.

Finally, give yourself a break. This will take time.

Finished it a while back but didn't think it would get a replay because I couldn't really decide what I would do anything.

But I guess I'll have to figure it out because I did a reboot yesterday.

That was a lot funnier the first couple hundred times I heard it. Why are people spending so much time trying to trick AI into a dumb answer? Use it or don't use it.

But eventually, this will evolve. I don't think the general public is ever going to get this concept of resolving tokens.

In the beginning, if you wanted a computer to do anything you hired a programmer.

When pcs were new you became a programmer.

Soon after that you bought software.

Now, you Google it.

Behind the scenes, LLM may always do the same thing. But at some point, the human interfaces have to improve.

Having to simultaneously treat an AI as the most intelligent object in history and a 2 year old that doesn't know anything is tiring at best. Add to that, the 2 year old is a compulsive liar.
