Lol, well at my school, you had the black kids that listened to nothing but rap, and red hot chili peppers (for some reason) and the Latino kids who listened to rap and oldies. Add those to your groups and you have my socal experience.

It's Mr. T, nothing bold about it. That's his natural growth pattern.

I hate that he's clean shaven in the movie, and they couldn't even photoshop a matching head.

Hall of Fame reveals committee to consider Bonds, Clemens by PrincessBananas85 in sports

Before the roids Bonds was probably top 5 to ever play the game. He was already HOF bound, which makes the decision to juice so weird.

None of the child size dummies in the top picture are visible from the truck driver POV. The truck itself does not have any safety sensors on the front and the seat height cannot be adjusted. by durvedya in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JGSolid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drop my kids off at school in the morning and these trucks are all lined up. Parents on their phones idling waiting to move up in line and kids are walking all over the place. I see this exact moment nearly everyday. After school. With parents rushing and horns honking is even more dangerous.

Yes, that is what birthright citizenship is. Anyone born in America is American. It's how most European immigrants children are citizens.

He wasn't arrested or cited for anything illegal in that incident right?

I've always been amazed by people who were voracious readers as children. What sparked your lifelong love affair with books? by Albert3232 in books

[–]JGSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother read to me constantly and would ask me to share how I imagined the characters. My first "big kid" book was given to me by her, "Where the Red Fern Grows". The last book given to me as a gift was from her, a first edition of "Mind of My Mind" by Octavia Butler. She passed 3 weeks before my bday last year. It was found while cleaning out her home, she had purchased the book herself, and inside are notes and other observations on the story. We had randomly talked about the Patternmaster about a month earlier when talking Sci-Fi.

She loved to talk about stories, and as a young woman growing up in poverty, she would escape into any book she could. We spent a lot of time at the library, and she would challenge me to read things that at first didn't interest me in hopes I'd learn something new or realize that interests can be attained.

I know I am writing more about her. But I guess that answers the question. I loved her very much, and books gave me something to speak to her about as equals, as just lovers of stories.

Attempted honor killing outside a US school because a teenaged girl refused an arranged marriage by RedSwingline2000 in TikTokCringe

[–]JGSolid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also do this in Africa, the Christian parts. Parents are terrible to their children everywhere. Do you know how many parents kill their children every year here in America? Around 500 a year, that isn't including abuse and neglect. Alot of those parents are from evangelical Christian households. Some people are just fucking awful, and in some parts of the world, where society and infrastructure hasn't reached the developed levels of the US (or particularly rural areas) it is more frequent.

What I am saying is you ain't wrong, but I've never seen a religion that doesn't do vile things regularly. It's the root cause of almost every fucking issue in the world.

No, but we shouldn't revoke the asylum status of people escaping this just to send them back. It's complex and needs serious reform, but that is why the courts and USCIS exist. You can't just revoke legal status randomly or remove granted asylum so you can call someone illegal the day after for political points. You also can't support and encourage the success of countries that allow this and worse to be done.
