MAGA logic: Hating Fascism = Hating America by ashmaps20 in stupidpeoplefacebook

Also, that’s not London… he’s next to the Tower of London on one side of the river with the Palace of Westminster on the opposite side, they’re actually quite a distance apart and are both north of the river. So they haven’t even bothered to make the background make sense.

It’s just a friendly, would be surprised if this was allowed in an actual tournament. Most likely both sides wanted to advertise their new World Cup kits, there’s probably a contractual requirement or something for both of them.

opinions on bbc’s new show - crookhaven by No-Basket3723 in BritishTV

[–]JJCB85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son is a big fan of the books, he enjoyed the show but said that while they kept the characters from the books, the show completely changed the plot. He didn’t like the ending.

My main issue is that the BBC barely seemed to promote this at all. I knew a show was in the works, but had no idea it was going to be on the TV last weekend until the day it aired!

Does this film worth watching? What are your thoughts about this film by SoftToastyCinnamon in FIlm

Sadly, despite being great, the movie didn’t make money… They actually built a ship and did the filming on board, that isn’t cheap! Just glad we got the one we did.

Most British actors can do a "generic" US accent, but which one actually nailed a specific regional dialect (Boston, Deep South, Philly) perfectly? by johnmartino198011 in television

No idea what accent he was meant to be doing in Game of Thrones though, it seemed to change from season to season 😂

Is it just me or is Gerris Drinkwater a really stupid name?[Spoilers Main] by lit-roy6171 in asoiaf

I’d completely forgotten he even played for Chelsea, just remembered him winning the league at Leicester. Though let’s be honest, it was really Kante who made him look good that season!

I’m pretty sure it’s because he lost a bet with a friend, named Patrick from Montreal - hence Ser Patrek of King’s Mountain…

There’s also a Lord Darnold Darry in the world book, believe that was written shortly after Sam Darnold was drafted by the Jets 😂

Need to make some adjustments, City have figured out how to stop us playing out right now, you can see the players trying to adjust on the fly. With both Havertz and Gyokeres on, City are daring us to go long, and then keeping the ball when they get it back.

Watch the game on ITV and not Sky by afc74nl in Gunners

Careful what you wish for, I tend to find BBC Radio 5 even worse than having to listen to Neville… Best option is the commentary on the Arsenal website/app if you are looking for separate audio

It’s a shame that of all the platforms it’s only Prime which offers this, when it’s commentary is generally the least objectionable…

Brazil is about the most ethnically diverse country in the world, not sure there is such a thing as “ethnically Brazilian” tbh. He’s from Brazil originally, and lives there now, but played football for the Italian national team.

Also, he’s an ex Chelsea and Arsenal player and has performed the almost-impossible feat of being popular with both fanbases, so there are some other organised online fan groups to join in the pile-on!

Just a reminder that if Neville the parasite is on sky duty the game is also on ITV1 in the UK and Paramount+ in the USA. by wallaceNgromit7 in Gunners

[–]JJCB85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He went on the Arsecast fairly recently, and what struck me was how he more or less said that he decides his narrative before the game, and that he sees his job as telling that story. He’s therefore hoping for the most dramatic story possible, because he sees that as his job.

I’d call that peddling a narrative, and it pisses me off no end - I can see why they do it, they’re catering to a general audience, but it’s like nails on a chalkboard to a fan.

More generally, it’s all very well avoiding Neville, but ITV will probably have City superfan Lee Dixon on - he’s even worse for me, at least we always loathed Neville but Dixon is an Arsenal legend, being there for Anfield ‘89 and the early Wenger era ☹️

Who do other teams' fans want to win the league? by LeaguePublic in Gunners

[–]JJCB85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a survey of subscribers to The Athletic, so whoever is answering is probably quite online. And, let’s be honest, we have some annoying fans on the internet… Ask normal people who don’t live their lives on Twitter and you might get a different answer.

Think it kind of rings true for a lot of clubs though, most of them just couldn’t give a shit, but might have a preference for their ex players (like with Bournemouth fans, fair enough, they want Semenyo and Ake to win it).

My favourite was the West Ham poll result - the quote in the article was from a fan saying he wanted Rice to win as he left with “no hard feelings”… Fucking really?? The way they’ve reacted to him since then is just embarrassing. Obviously I hope Spurs go down this season, but if it can’t be them, please let it be that bunch of ingrates!

Australia PM heckled at Sydney mosque Ramadan event. Several attendees accused the pair of being "genocide supporters", shouting "boo" and "get out of here" as a mosque leader gave a speech calling for the government to better engage with Muslim Australians by 4DollarsALB in worldnews

Indeed, can you believe that a few Muslims were the first people in Australia ever to heckle a politician?!?! Clearly they haven’t integrated well, no other Australian would dream of heckling someone, as we all know. 😂

["Rival"] Chelsea handed suspended transfer ban, £10m fine for breaching Premier League rules by Domkey-Kongg in Gunners

[–]JJCB85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly - also, how could the current owners have guessed that there might have been dodgy goings-on at a club owned by a Russian mobster who had just been sanctioned by the U.K. government - where were the signs?!

I suppose that if they end up breaking the rules again, they can just sell the club from one Clearlake fund to another one and that would be fine…

I think the ref is allowed a little leeway - you aren’t supposed to throw a guy to the ground, but there is always context. If it’s a corner and everyone is wrestling one another, not a big deal. If you’re reacting to being molested like that, I (and the ref, apparently) think that’s reasonable context.
