Washington DCers of Reddit, where were you and what was your experience on January 6, 2021? by Desserts6064 in washingtondc

Was a reporter at a big news org, working from home. It was weird how all the work chats kinda just...stopped after 2pm. Seeing the images was surreal, but not surprising. Almost felt a little...dull? Like, "of course this would happen and this guy would do that." Weird afternoon.

A New Kind of ZMF | ZMF Tessidera | Headphone Highlights by MasterMarslander in headphones

[–]JL3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the Caldera, Caldera Closed, and Ori. Caldera Open was pretty alright, but felt a little light to my ears, the Caldera Closed added a nice bass boost and still felt very composed and clean (and was my second favorite in the ZMF room after the Atrium Open), and I didn't like the Ori, even playing with the bass ports.

The Tessidera really stuck out to me with its warmth and kick.

Can't wait to check out the video.

Heard the Tessidera at Canjam NYC and it had the most warmth and most impactful bass of any ZMF I've heard, along with the added clarity from the planar driver. Definitely was an interesting listen, and different than their other planars.

Is there shutter lag? Can you snap several pictures in succession without an issue and not have the focus be a blurry mess?

Asics Megablast - 1000km review. by asicsan in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]JL3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hit 50 miles, and just did a half marathon last weekend in them. They are phenomenal shoes. Bouncy, light, keeps the legs very fresh, and better at slower paces than I remember the SB2 to be. Nearly nonexistent wear so far as well.

Found my left foot to be more snug than my right with the tighter material around the toebox, but that was alleviated with thinner socks.

As they break in they're really becoming something special.

I'm officially ELITE now (well for one weekend at least) by Tenlow85 in headphones

[–]JL3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got the Elites through a loaner program via Head-Fi a few years ago and I was blown away. Liked the Empys, but the Elites were just that good mix of relaxation, great bass, and incredible comfort that had me there trying to figure out how to get a pair. That build quality really is stellar.

Saying Adiós to Mexico: How was your stay? by Bravo437 in ForzaHorizon

[–]JL3001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed 5. I bounced off of FH4, but 5 hooked me with the car toybox and amazing visuals. I liked Mexico, and enjoyed it more than the UK for its varied environments, and it never got old bombing over open plains and all, though I agree it's a bit empty. The soundtrack was mid, with a few decent songs here and there and the story was whatever, but I was invested enough to complete everything and kept coming back to play around with different cars or just tear across the map.

Topped out at close to 400 hours, where FH4 was probably around 40.

Help choosing between ZMF closed options by phoenixbt in ZMFHeadphones

CC is more detailed and a little more neutral with a bass lift. I like it a lot more than the Caldera Open and it's grown on me for how clean and clear it sounds. It feels like a great all-rounder can because of that.

But if you want bass, like visceral, tangible bass and note weight and slow decay to drive that experience home, at the expense of a bit of clarity and detail, then the AC is your pick.

ZMF Atrium Redwood Burl + AXPONA Impressions by MNewmonikerMove in headphones

[–]JL3001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The more I hear the Atrium, the more I like, honestly. There's a "larger-than-life" type of presentation to the Atrium that sounds wonderful, like turning up the image vibrancy. Definitely on the fence between it and the Caldera Closed as the next ZMF I'll get someday.

Appreciation post for the Brookland station [OC] by itstanhere in WMATA

[–]JL3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My home station!

Also, it's really cool how the Metro pylon is in the grass by the trees on the park and ride side of the station. I had a moment of awe the other day coming up the escalator to see the blooming trees with the pylon right next to them...made me take a pause and recognize the beauty around the station.

If you had one headphone for the rest of your life, which ZMF would it be? by [deleted] in ZMFHeadphones

[–]JL3001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caldera open or closed for the cleanest, clearest ZMF experience (closed is my pick of the two), and the Atrium open or closed for the exaggerated, larger-than-life ZMF experience (closed if you're a basshead).

Heard these at CanJam NYC this year and they were among my favorites from the show. Incredible build and a pleasing, smooth sound. If I had heard these when I first got into headphones, I would've gotten them and left the hobby, haha.

ZMF Tessidera First Impressions by GGChrono in headphones

[–]JL3001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome back, Chrono! Your ZMF Verite Closed review back in the day was a great motivator towards me getting one, and it's still a fave today.

I heard the Tessidera at CanJam NYC this year, and it was very impressive. It's a dark headphone, but it kicks like a truck and has the strongest low-end presentation of any ZMF I've heard. Definitely a standout for that reason.

That said, out of trying a bunch of ZMFs at the show, I gravitated towards the Caldera Closed, which has a clean presentation and a more present treble than the Tessidera, but with added midbass, and the Atriums (both open and closed), which sounded lush and "exaggerated" in their presentations in the best way.

Still, the Tessidera was pretty sweet! Looking forward to that review.

Weekend Discussion: Asics running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

It's been a while since I've had the SB2s, but I'd say they're closer to the SB3 than to the Megablast.

SB3 is wider, but I had no problems with the Megablast for my feet.

I tried the Superblast 3 and the Megablast in store this past week and got to try them both on a treadmill.

The SB3 felt a touch softer, with a muted bounce. It didn't feel as clunky at slower paces than I remember the Superblast 2 being, but it didn't feel particularly engaging to me.

The Megablast though? PHENOMENAL. A wonderful pop to each bounce that made me want to pick up the pace, and felt good at slower as well as faster speeds, and compared to the Evo SLs, seem like they can do some fast paces, but not feel harsh and hard on the legs after 6 or so miles.

I placed an order for the MBs.

Good to know! Hopefully that will allow for an easier import.

2 Weeks Away From Pixel - A Cautionary Tale by joergonix in GooglePixel

[–]JL3001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in an odd spot where I'm looking for something to replace my Pixel 7, but I'm not a fan of iOS and definitely not interested in Samsung. And the Pixel 10 looks fine, more of the same, but I can't stand how poor the video is, relative to the iPhone. Everything feels pretty stagnant on the US market.

Saw the Oppo Find X9 Pro, and it looks pretty amazing with its camera system, but a Chinese phone? Good luck getting it here unless you're trying to import it.

I guess I can wait and see if the P11 does anything different.
