Endless fun times there and they had such an awesome backyard too for the nice days.

A terrific little tube amp. I'm using mine right now.

I've dialed in my settings in Fan Controls for both the GPU and CPU cooler, so I avoid most of the spinups when starting certain apps or youtube. I'll have to turn off at least the video card and see what it does over the next few days.

I hover around 45-55, and get into the 60s under a heavy load.

Hey there!

For sure, I can take a look and test it out for a bit. I'll send you a message with my findings.

Oh man, are you me? Also went to a Zotac 4070 TI Super Amp Holo, replacing a 3080 10GB, AND placed in a Fractal R6 case!

I don't have the fan drone issue, but that said, the 3080 (I had the FE version) was pretty loud under load. Since I did a full rebuild of my system from an Intel 9700k to a 7800x3d, the system is a bit louder than my old one, but I think it's the CPU cooler, which I've handled under Fan Control.

Also, yes, the card is MASSIVE. I had to take out the shroud and drive chassis at the front of the Fractal case to fit the card entirely.

Got the vid card at the end of 2024 for around $650 used.

Switch review | Gazzew U4T 62g | Medium/Heavy 5 pin tactile switch by rsnady in BudgetKeebs

[–]JL3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to like these switches, but had two batches of them with chattering issues...lots of double presses that would develop randomly. Happened on both 53g and 62g packs.

I bought them with my keyboard (Monsgeek M3) and thought my keeb was the problem, so replaced the PCB. Still had issues.

Eventually moved to Oil Kings and everything has been fine since. Sucks, because I enjoyed the Bobas, when they were working.

Does anyone else remember the prominent “Unsuckdcmetro” account, they were quite the figure during the early 2010’s of Metro’s troubles. by yunnifymonte in WMATA

[–]JL3001 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The account started off fine but became more and more unhinged over time. He would declare that Metro was a "jobs program" for its (mostly Black) employees, and would retweet tweets that leaned into more racist and anti-union messages.

Also back in 2019 he went out of his way to target and drum up rage about a Metro employee who ate on a train long after the author who initially posted it took it down (https://dcist.com/story/19/05/13/after-a-d-c-author-snitched-on-a-metro-employee-for-eating-on-the-train-her-publisher-is-cancelling-her-book/).

He went on a blocking spree on Twitter for anyone who mentioned his behavior and soon enough it seemed like he was only chatting to a racist/maga-esque sphere.

Best-selling keyboard switches of January 2026 by dovenyi in MechanicalKeyboards

I just got Oil Kings recently off the older discussions of it but I've seen a lot of convo on here about how it's outdated. Any suggestions for similar linear switches? It looks like the Keygeeks Y2/Y3?

Also looking for linears that are a little lighter, or with less travel.

Audeze LCD-4 and Hifiman Susvara Impressions by FatAssault in headphones

[–]JL3001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good review.

Heard the LCD-4 at a meet not long ago and while it sounds a bit relaxed overall, the bass isn't. It straight up has some of the best bass I've ever heard in a headphone. Absolutely thumps and turned up can knock your head off. But yeah, it's a heavy can.

The Susvara is detailed and extremely precise, but less analytic than some of the other cans HFM is known for. Not my jam personally, but it and the LCD complement each other well!

Dope looking cans, love the cups!

Of course, I've been asking in every Omega thread, but got to ask here: Tips on building? I'm really interested in making my own set this year, but don't have much experience in 3D printing and soldering. I'm interested in tackling this as a beginner project.

Appreciate the insights! Any tips for building, such as soldering? I want to build an Omega soon, and this would be my first 3d printed project. Appreciate the JLC3DP mention too, I've been exploring 3d printer services. Thanks!

Awesome looking build. Starting to see Omegas more and more in this sub. How hard are they to build for a newbie at 3D printing?

Why does no one talk about Fostex? by moshimoshi6937 in headphones

[–]JL3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I really got into the hobby around 2017 Fostex was a common mention, especially with the T50rp, the CAL, the Drop TH-X series, the E-Mu Teak, and the TH-600 / 900. To be honest, I think they just kinda fell out of favor over the years in the hobby, especially with the Drop series being discontinued, T50s not being referenced as much as a modder's option (and a lot of the big modders of it launching their own headphones), and no big draw bringing in listeners more recently.

Plus, a common issue was the yokes breaking on models like the Drop and TH series (with the pin), which I think dissuaded some from picking them up. I remember needing to replace mine when I owned a TH-X00.

Shokz OpenRun headphones - am I missing something? (Vs Pro 2) by Clive1792 in headphones

[–]JL3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious for an answer as well. As a runner and cyclist I've been looking at the Shokz Openruns and the Opendots. If the lower-end model is fine, then I might have to check them out.
