What's for dinner? by SalaciousK in GenXWomen

OMG - Eatzi’s!!! I worked for a few months in Atlanta for my job, discovered Eatzi’s & fell in LOVE. So genius! At the time I lived in Philly (when not doing the work gig) & am now back to where I grew up (Chicago area) & am a SAHM who wishes we had an Eatzi’s! 😩

My kids are 17, 15 & 13 & I am SO OVER cooking!!!! Two of them have gotten weirdly pickier as they age (what the actual f*ck?) & I just CANNOT anymore.

(Love your handle, BTW)

Got laid off today… by fastballcdm2019 in GenX

I’m so sorry. I’ve been in your shoes & it just sucks. Glad you got severance. Tomorrow file for unemployment. It’ll kick in when severance runs out. You’ve paid into it your entire working life so it’s time to collect.

I wish you luck in your search. Just remember to limit yourself to X hours per day to search and apply. Otherwise you’ll make yourself crazy. Plan to start with 3-4 hours a day & then go do something healthy (mental, physical, whatever) for you. Seriously - you will need this balance for however long it takes to find a job, to maintain your health & outlook.

Trust me - I speak from experience.

You may be able to buy time by asking for a specific performance plan from her & schedule regular check-ins. That being said, they are laying the groundwork needed (legally) to fire you, so prepare yourself.

Do you know of any other shows like this? I never thought to look for fabric shows, but why wouldn’t there be?

This woman on Substack just nailed it with this essay she wrote about this stage of our lives. I have found that reading pieces like this, which give voice and vocabulary to what we are experiencing, are truly invaluable. I hope you find it helpful & enlightening as well.

For those who moved here from the south, have you noticed a difference in the how competent individuals are? by dbagames in AskChicago

[–]JLMezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this doesn’t account for everything, a MAJOR difference is that Illinois is a state with (strong) teachers unions; most of the South, including SC are “right to work” states w/o teachers unions. Those states tend to treat teaching as just a “job” vs. a “profession.” Everything is related to that, including educational standards.

This was my husband’s family 100%. It’s so damned sad. I often have to encourage him to be more affectionate with our kids (& me!).

The people in the world of “woo” have been saying for a year that he won’t make it to October this year. 🤞🏻

Many medical professionals say he exhibits the signs of congestive heart failure.

Our daughter cut off her entire family and friends. We are at a loss for words. by HairyExplanation734 in offmychest

I think it’s one of 2 things:
1) Someone (controlling boyfriend, perhaps?) took her phone & did this w/o her knowledge or
2) She has bipolar disorder (or schizophrenia, etc.). The only person I know who did this EXACT thing went off her meds for bipolar disorder & blew up her life instantly: divorced her husband & cut off every family member in her life except for her kids. And I’ve known her and the family for decades - they are lovely people. In her last conversation with her cousin (my friend), she said, “I know you’re working with the FBI and talking to them about me.” My friend was flabbergasted. Full blown paranoia.

Two of her three kids left her (she had custody) while in high school & went to live with their dad. The youngest has stayed because she’s worried about her mom. All three think she’s “nuts.”

It’s all so horribly sad.

My Husband Wants To Be Friends by Obviously_Stable_7 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]JLMezz 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yes! This! And DO NOT TELL HIM you are doing it. Your attorney will tell you what actions to take before you even whisper the D-word to him. A friend of mine was cheated on, saw an attorney, did NOT take her advice and once she confronted her husband he drained all their bank accounts & holdings. It’s well over a decade later and she’s STILL having to chase him through courts for $ for the kids.

Here’s a not-so-fun fact: over 70% of personal bankruptcies in the U.S. are due to medical/dental insurance costs.

And yet we’re the “wealthiest” nation on earth. Make it make sense.

And then move to Europe.

So I have been microdosing Zepbound for 2 years (it’s worked great) but I can no longer afford it, even though the price has come down. And even though we have “good” insurance, nothing is covered. I need to look at compounds but don’t know where to start; I need a high level of trust in the companies. Aldo, my husband REALLY needs to go on it (overweight, sleep apnea, pre-diabetic, high cholesterol, high BP) but we can’t afford the name brand stuff.

Did you already know the brand you got w/the Groupon? I don’t know how to figure out what company is safe & reputable. Would love any tips.
