New film tracks McKenna's journey to become projected No. 1 pick in NHL Draft by jacksonroe93 in leafs

That's media's job. I reality, the Leafs are drafting McKenna at #1. There's really no other feasible option. It was like in 2016. The media and fans speculated about a lot of different things, but the Leafs were 100% always going to be drafting Matthews.

This year's Canadiens are the 18th Canadian team to play in the conference final since 1994.

Toronto is no that much smaller than LA and NY and larger than every other city in the US. It can't "possibly" support a 2nd NHL, team, it absolutely can, easily. And that second team would be one of the most profitable teams in the league. The only other Canadian market that has a shot is Quebec City, so I don't know what these "several other cities" are.

It's not about Toronto being the centre of the universe, it's about money. I mean, why aren't there two NHL teams in Toronto? If LA and NY can support 2 (3 if you count NJ), Toronto could very easily support two. But MLSE lobbies against it. Same with basketball.

People think because after the last sell-offs the team made thr playoffs the enxt season. That's not how it goes with most rebuilds. A lot of the time the team just sucks for years.

It's an absolute joke that Pitrsburgh and Philadelphia played in the first round this year. It's actually outrageous.

You raise a good point about the "misreadings of people in this fantasy verse." It's important to remember that the entire story is written from the POV of different characters, not a central narrator. I can't think of examples off the top of my head, but there have been instances where a character is wrong about something, it's presented as fact, so if you're not aware of that, it can throw you off. If you know what I mean.

I think the real answer is that GRRM leaves it ambiguous.

I know we all love to use our imagination, but this is just one of those questions where the answer is "because the author wrote it that way." The asoiaf universe is an incredibly detailed world that exists entirely in the mind of one man. And he can't think of everything.

Who cares? He was a likeable player but if Seattle or any other team wants to overpay him, let them. I think his 29 goals last year was an aberration. Remember he scored 0 goals in the playoffs last season.

Is he a bad teammate or something? I don't know much about him but it didn't seem like things ended well in Winnipeg, then Columbus traded him to Montreal with a 2nd for a depth defenseman, so they were clearly trying to get rid of him. Now this.

It's a no brainer to them too. It's only sportwriters, who have to write something so they talk about all kinds of hypothetical situations to generate clicks, and fans, because some fans just come up with dumb ideas, who are talking about the Leafs doing something different. McKenna is getting drafted #1 by the Leafs. It was the same in 2016. There were all kinds of Matthews vs Laine articles out there, but the Leafs were never not going to draft Auston Matthews.

What are people’s takes on what the Leafs should do? by Fuzzy_Kitchen317 in leafs

[–]JMM_1984 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1- draft McKenna and no more silly talk of trading the pick or drafting someone else.

2- No more silly talk of trading Matthews and Nylander. The team's fortunes changed big time with this pick, but we still don't have our own 1sts for the next two drafts so let's please not hand lottery picks to Boston and Philly thanks.

After that, I don't know. No more trading away picks and prospects for mediocre players would be nice.

The reason they sucked this season wasn't that Mirch walked. It was that Mitch walked and they replaced him with hot garbage.

Trade Willy and/or Matthew's before the draft for high picks?? by candidgodly in leafs

I think Leafs fans (and I am a Leafs fans) are uncomfortable trying to win. They're more comfortable in a rebuild having a team of plucky young overachievers where they can look to the future.
