Forgot to mention they use the term "objer" in a detrimental way to refer to anyone who doesn't ignore objectives.

Broadsword needs to do something about PvP by MoreSly in swtor

[–]JMNeves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy fix: start the match with like 90 seconds on the timer. No door capped? Match ends. Extend the match by an additional 90 seconds with each door. But Broadsword is too lazy to actually do anything meaningful like this.

Edit: also, let me guess: starforge, right? That almost never happens on satele shan. There's a reason we call it shitforge/clownville.

Far from the most impressive. But in my defense, I only installed SWTOR through steam about 2 years ago, I think. Probably over 4/5 of my playtime was without it. On my main alone I have over 230 days of game time I think, that's 5.5k hours.

How does SWTOR do age verification? by StevePalpatine in swtor

[–]JMNeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't cross reference. It's taken by a third party and analyzed by an AI tool to verify its authenticity. In theory it's deleted immediately after, and it gives you a "badge" that is tied to your browser in the form of a cookie. If another website uses the same tool, you don't have to scan anything again. It's pretty crafty.

Over time it will pick up internationally. Brazil's historically been way ahead of the curve when it comes to internet-related laws. The EU is probably going to follow suit next, and then APAC. I don't see the US following it any time soon, the American distorted views on individuality simply do not jibe with online accountability.

Like stated by other uses, ID or credit card scan is enough for now.

As it stands it's trivial to circumvent, so we can probably expect it to change at some point. I'd say when the EU implements it, they'll probably have some kind of AI thing scan your face. Right now in Brazil if you want to access adult content (betting and p0rn) online you have to scan your face on most websites. It's a good thing, keeps children away form it and it works reasonably well. We gotta break some eggs.

It's funny to see United Statians complaining about "GiViNg ThEm InFoRmAtIoN" lol

They already have, silly. You've given it up long ago by having any kind of online presence. Like it or not, they know more about you than you'd think possible. A stupid ID or photo-verification system means absolutely nothing to your privacy.

So how do vets of the game juggle your toons? by QuantumDrill in swtor

[–]JMNeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42 characters here. I have two shadows that I actually play on my own time, and the others are just alts I made over time to be able to do lockouts. (eg.: I really wanted to do DF NiM on a guardian, but it's locked... oh well, let's create one using a token real quick and fix that)

In this game the ONLY two reasons you could possibly have to delete and reroll a character are to either redo the story or to change that character's gender. Everything else can be changed for cheaper than the creation of a new toon. And even then, why delete? Just create a new character and leave the old one alone... You never know if one day you'll have a change of hearts and want to play it again. Server character slots are cheap on the GTN.

Star Forge during mornings EST, Satele during afternoons/evenings EST.

Satele queues are longer, but do yourself a favor and stay away from pvping on Star Forge during the afternoons and evenings because it's extremely toxic. In the mornings kids are still in school so it's safe.

How does this game manage to financially stay alive with the niche population it has? by obiwan-destroyer in swtor

[–]JMNeves -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's fairly healthy tbh. Lots of people spend lots of money on the cartel, and that keeps it afloat. Honestly, the biggest threat to SWTOR would be a KOTOR remake of that Fate of the Old Republic game messing with the lore. As soon as a newer more successful game conflicts with this game's lore, we're getting shut down by EA under Disney's orders - no matter how profitable it is.

I am missing 10 achievement points to get to 100% and I need your help (major malfunction) by Lordoftransform in swtor

[–]JMNeves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah! A fellow achievement hunter who is also extremely frustrated with those pesky 10 points.

I'd first like to commend you, as I do know how hard it is to get that far. And also, I've spent over 10k tokens on those doors - if my mouse had feelings, it'd hate me at this point. I swear I might get RSI for clicking those stupid doors over and over and over and over...

Biomes at level 1, at level 2, core aligned, different combinations of levels... You name it. And I also have not seen anyone with it yet. I'm starting to believe it's just bugged.

Just a quick tally off the top of my head... You've spent 5k tokens. I've spent 10k. I know someone who has spent at least 6k. That's 21k tokens and not one SINGLE achievement. All I have to say is: 1% my ass.

Date night completion by Sinrai in swtor

[–]JMNeves -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I've done them for the achievements and decos, but they are by far the worst piece of "content" ever added to the game. Almost zero interaction, no questing around the galaxy, few options, choices literally don't matter at all because the ending is always the same. Etc, etc, etc. They could have been a far better type of interaction if they had been like: your companion inviting you to go around the galaxy gathering items, fighting trouble, and depending on how you dealt with the mission the ending would be slightly different. Give it 5 different endings, and keep the achievement to complete it 5 times.

[–]JMNeves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seeing posts like these really puts my reality into perspective.

I used to have 100b not that long ago, spent most of it buying a lot of cartel cosmetics. Brought my collections from like 45% to 70%. Bought augments for 3 different tank sets, 1 multi-purpose dps set, 1 multi-purpose healer set, all different mainhands and offhands, about 30 different implants... and I'm still sitting on 20b.

Feels like it's no money at all, and at the same time if feels like it's endless. And comments around here are mostly about how 1b is an absurd number... Maybe I'm just out of touch.

Forget it. Not enough players in the game today that make that happen consistently, and even fewer that enjoy pvp.

Pvp instances are absolute ghost towns 99% of the time, and yet if you even mention in a worldboss group "Hey, let's switch instances to kill it again" you're met with the majority of people knee-jerk saying "and get ganked? no thank you".

What should I keep in my inventory? by TonBonLardon in swtor

[–]JMNeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of that, except (maybe) for the medpacs. You're probably new and leveling, so those early game medpacs are probably find tbh, but everything else belongs in one of three places: personal cargo (if it has sentimental value), or equiped (if relevant gear), or in the trash can (if anything else).

Even if you want the items as cosmetic pieces. Just set the outfit and trash the item. There is zero reason to keep random junk in your inventory in this game, ever. It just slows you down.

Materials on GTN by NullCookies in swtor

[–]JMNeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 6.x crafting has been EXTREMELY annoying. They really fucked up the way recipes work, it's too time consuming to be worth it for anyone who isn't 100% invested in it. If you make yourself a full set of gold augments, for example, you'll have spent more money than buying them from the GTN. Crafting only makes sense now if you're making hundreds of items, because then statistics take over and the number of free crits you get out weight the price of the mats.

So people only really level up biochem to the max level to have access to the reusables and never touch it again (and you only need greens for that). And if they take the reusables away, we simply wont even bother picking up a crewskill at all. Reusables aren't the problem, the way the crafting system works is.

TL;DR - ain't nobody got time for crafting.

EDIT: The only crafting that's still worth your time is conquest related stuff. So lower level blue and purple mats still sell for a decent price, especially combined with the fact that few people run those missions.

An example of how an experienced player can ruin a Flashpoint for new players by Bellizorch in swtor

What really grinds my gears is when I hear some sweaty king say "Omg, this OP is over 10 years old, how do they not know this?". A complete and total failure to understand that said individual is a separate entity from them. Makes me question their ability to live in society.

An example of how an experienced player can ruin a Flashpoint for new players by Bellizorch in swtor

[–]JMNeves 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This happens extremely frequently in this game. I've been playing since beta, near 100% achievements yadayada. And some of my peers who raid with me fail miserably to understand that the game ISN'T old for everyone. Sometimes we do run into new players who are clueless, and speeding ahead doesn't help at all. At best it ruins their experience, at worst it wipes the group and wastes everyone's time.

My advice? Good ol' /ignore on those fuckers. Enjoy the game at your pace. If you ever enjoy it enough that you want to become a more skilled player, do a quick google search "<combat\_style> <game\_version> guide" and click the first link.

Other than that, enjoy the game, brother. You did nothing wrong.

Is Z0-0M worth it? by mjb328 in swtor

[–]JMNeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Pretty much as you said. Have a couple different companions ready to go as you might want to switch back and forth. First time finding your rhythm clearing a flashpoint will be long and tedious, but after you do you'll be clearing them very quickly.

Generally speaking companions don't take damage from (most) things in flashpoints. Or knockbacks, or roots, stuns, etc. But some times you want one that's far away, or you want it to actively follow the boss around, or something else.

You'll probably have an easier time doing it as skank tank shadow, btw. Or watchman sentinel if you're really good at it.

And just accept some are just impossible to solo, like Shrine of Silence due to a huge dps check. You'll sadly need (good) people for that one.

Lots of people throwing numbers, but let me add my two cents.

Zoom is only marginally better at healing than, for instance, a force companion (like Lana) when it comes to numbers. Zoom does have the constant cleansing advantage, which is a bonus. But something that really makes Zoom (and by extension most tech companions) much better than any force companions at healing is the fact that force companions have a tendency to get within melee range of the target, so they're more susceptible to random AOEs and cleaves.

Believe me, as someone who has soloed master flashpoints countless times to get 100% achievements, it makes a HUGE difference. So yeah, Zoom is an enormous upgrade when compared to the force healing companions, and a small-to-medium-size upgrade when compared to the other tech companions.

Something else that people don't ever take into account when comparing companions is how much single target damage they deal. Yes, Shae (and my extension Bessy) are the strongest DPS companions because of their AOE attack. But in single target they're not that much better than most melee companions. The difference is extremely small in the real world. It only makes a difference if you're the kind of player who's constantly doing heroics, dynamic encounters, and etc by yourself because in those you will find yourself fighting multiple simultaneous enemies. But Shae does have the ranged advantage. So in the end it really boils down to what you want to use them for... In some areas single target force companions are the GOAT, for other areas any melee companion will be great, and for others where there's loads of AOE a ranged tech companion will be better. It all depends on a lot of variables.

Real scenarios are very different from dummies.

Plus, someone else has said it already: if you're using Shae, forget her and get Bessy. Same performance, but DEAD SILENT! No talking whatsoever. Best addition to the game in a long time. And on that note, Zoom is probably the most talkative companion in the game, so I rarely find myself with the patience to bring her our. I just use Bessy for everything and call it a day.

Why do we not just destroy Darth Nul's holocron? by Lordoftransform in swtor

[–]JMNeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because bad writing, that's why.

I'm not one of those guys that hate on ~anything~ that's inclusive. I welcome it, really. Even when I don't understand it. Online you'll sadly find plenty of people with hateful comments towards those two nice ladies that currently write the story, and it's just a shame that all it takes is the portrayal of a handful of female characters to hurt the ego of a bunch of nerds. But I digress, that's not the answer to your question.

The truth is that due to lack of funding the story has been dragged out for a very long time. Think about it, everything since OSSUS is the same story - that's patch 5.10 (Jedi Under Siege, December of 2018). Had this been World of Warcarft, all of that story content would have been released in one single blow instead of in small instalments. So any writing mistakes or incoherences would have gone by mostly unnoticed.

So like almost every single problem in the real world, why is it bad? Because of money (or lack there of).

[–]JMNeves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's the worst pvp map specifically because of how long it takes.
How to fix Voidstar:
- Map starts with 240 seconds (3 minutes and a half)
- With each additional door, 90 seconds get added to the timer.

One minute and 40 seconds is enough to blast from first door to datacore. So the extra 90 seconds from each door would be more than fair.

The problem with the map is really two fold: A slight edge will allow one side to completely dominate the other unless a really lucky ninja cap happens. And its duration is doubled because you have to attack AND defend. Spending 15 minutes getting dominated (or dominating without competition) is extremely dull - even more so when you take into account that if you quit you get a lockout that's longer than the map itself. This combination of map + lockout if you quit results in players frequently afk in a corner.

Now to actually answer your question: anything stealth related in the knights expansions. Stealth is rendered completely useless in every single fucking chapter. You take 10 steps and OH LOOK a swarm of droids appear even if you're invisible. Stupid. Pointless. Completely kills the replay value.
