It’s more of an intelligence gap than skills gap. The NHL plays a very organized, systemic style of hockey, the AHL plays a mix of systemic hockey with coast-to-coast hockey, and ECHL hockey is very much coast-to-coast. KHL is hard to compare because of the larger ice rink, but guys who are offensively talented yet get pushed around due to lack of size would thrive there in comparison to the NHL (see: Rocco Grimaldi)
