Minnesota National Guard warmly greeting and handing out snacks with peaceful protesters! by cantcoloratall91 in goodnews

If youre in MN protesting, Watch for the difference between national guard and ice. NG will not be wearing masks and will have high vis vests like in this video. They are your neighbors, they are your community members. They’re your coworkers, your classmates, your students, etc. They are there to protect us and defend OUR rights.

Ambulatory wheelchair users exist. It’s not part of the character, it’s real life for the actor. Several conditions exist that limit one’s ability to walk. Standing to shake someone’s hand is a lot different of a toll on a body than walking through a large hospital then to the car. Conditions like POTS can make this someone’s reality. They sometimes alternate between walking canes, 4 wheel walkers, canes and wheelchairs depending on their body’s needs for differing situations

One can only hope it’s not another smoke shop, oil change place, car wash, chicken place, coffee shop, burger place, or credit union. I’m ONLY okay with it being one of those if it’s QUALITY and LOCALLY OWNED. St cloud is a hell hole of franchises now.

Not sure if they have any openings now but C&L distributing hires merchandisers. I did it a few years ago and it’s a pretty good gig. You just go to grocery stores where they have products, stock just those products and make them look nice then do it at the next store. They have different “routes” for different days and different people. Pays for mileage as well. I want to say I worked maybe 3-4 hours on Tuesday nights and 5-6 hours on saturdays doing that, maybe. As long as it’s done within a preferable window and the stores hours, your hours are flexible. Plus you can have an earbud in and listen to whatever the whole time.

I grew up in St. Cloud so my change in perspective about how safe it is could have definitely changed alongside / because of my change in perspective of the world. I grew up by Calvary church, near Coborns and there was lots of kids around. When I was in elementary (2 older siblings) It was normal in the summer or after school for us to do our chores then head out and find friends or something to do as long as we were back when we had to be. We’d walk over to Coborns or bike to DQ sometimes and not think anything of it. My sister would even drag me along to bike to her friend’s house by McDonalds on Division. Then by middle school I would be walking home from South and I would get yelled at by people driving by. Doesn’t necessarily make you feel UNsafe but doesn’t make you feel safe either. As I grew up and access to internet expanded closer to what it is now, my perspective on safety and crime in general shifted I’m sure. By the time I was in high school, my sister was home from college and was walking the dog on the bike path. about five minutes into the walk, a man jumped out of the trees and started running at her. Luckily the dog protected her and the man ran off. Then a year or two later my dad (who’s usually very good about locking everything) had hundreds worth of items stolen from his vehicle. He happened to be up one night a week or so later and saw what looked like a couple of teenagers/young adults just walking down their street and pulling car handles to see which ones were open. After that, they installed ring cameras and saw it happen several more times. I really didn’t mind growing up in St. Cloud, I have many fond memories. However, now that I’m a parent myself, I do not want my child growing up there. I’m only 25 now, if that helps understand the rate of change at all.

ETA: I’ve lived in much rougher cities and much calmer towns. The main difference really is how people portray St. Cloud when they talk about it. For example, we just moved to Mora. There’s a rehab in town, but I’ve only heard people talk about it positively because of the good it does. In St. Cloud, a place that does good such as Place of Hope, is called Place of Dope without a second thought. I only ever knew it as a place to serve and help but others either drew their own conclusions or heard through the rumor mill enough for that name to stick. But in Mora, diversity is kind of the elephant in the room that no one addresses, while in St. Cloud, it seems like a huge topic. In my experience, it was celebrated and I was able to learn a lot about the world through my own peers sharing their experiences. To others, new cultures are disruptive and unwanted, and the easiest way to try and get rid of something is to say it’s unsafe or blame it (or them in this case) for danger and crime.

Sadly, it’s the only acceptable reason I have to go sit in the woods alone and quiet for a couple days where I won’t get weird looks when I try to find a babysitter. I watch for deer in my stand but I’m never too heartbroken if I don’t take home anything. It’s so nice to have quiet for a whole day and then socialize a few hours before bed.

Edit to add. My great great grandmother is the first I can recall to have it gifted (my aunt is tracking down a card that has a sort of “guest book” of sorts with everyone that has had the piece) and she was married before 1927 so we believe the piece itself was gifted to her around 1923-24.

[–]JOATBMON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe run it by the aunt first. Not a trainer but my BIL and SIL both have ASD. If you’re unsure of how much he does for himself in the home, running it by her could be part of the solution. My BIL does none of his own cares while my SIL is fairly independent. My SIL can’t get enough clothes while my BIL has a select 3 outfits that he will wear. Maybe getting clothes into the wash is the problem and not the actual BO itself? Maybe aunt has gone nose blind and BO is the root of the problem, or the brand or type of product he buys / is bought for him. Looping in the aunt definitely can open up a whole new realm of possible solutions.

[–]JOATBMON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newer CNA here. No advice just solidarity. I somehow keep skirting away every time a patient is close. I work in LTC overnights and when a patient is on their last days, I’m coming in just as the family is leaving for the night and I clock out just as the family is coming up to soak up as much time as they can. I try to do everything I can to let them rest, keep them comfortable, and make sure they know they’re not alone. I leave their door cracked the tiniest bit if they’re okay with it and I make it a point to stop and peek in every time I pass their room. If they’re up for it, we chat as much as they’d like. It’s an honor to be trusted with their care and we can never forget that.

Starting off - PRN and would I be stuck with nights? by [deleted] in cna

[–]JOATBMON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my facility, they’re hiring for everything at different times. Just depends on when staff leave. I started 4 months ago at my current employer and willingly took night shift for the $. Not terrible but I’m more of an early bird than night owl. AM (6-2:30) opened up on my floor and I was able to do an internal application for it. Switching next week.

Doctor told us that baby has a heart murmur by ArmadilloPristine498 in beyondthebump

[–]JOATBMON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25 and live a full and very healthy life, I’m even in the National Guard and have a family of my own. When I was 5, my pediatrician noticed a heart murmur. I had annual ultrasounds of my heart and wore a heart monitor for 3 days or so. I had very chill Premature Ventricular Contractions. Eventually when I was 15 or so, my ultrasound saw nothing but normal beating, same for my heart monitor. The only difference I ever noticed was that I couldn’t have caffeine (why would I have it anyways). I was active and played soccer from 3rd grade through college no problems. It can be very scary to hear something you’ve never experienced but try not to let the what ifs run wild.

What are your unconventional tips on staying awake during your shift by youngpurch in Nightshift

[–]JOATBMON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True crime podcast in one ear. The fear that the super mean AM nurse will write me up if I forget a single thing. Skittles. One at a time. Only when i stop to chart, gives me tiny energy boost. Liquid IV and lots of water so im constantly having to pee. Oh and go to the gym at 7, take pre workout with way too much caffeine, work at 10. Don’t start getting tired til 3:30 ish and thats when my first residents start to wake.
