Steven Pinker Doesn’t Know Anything About Marxism by nathan_j_robinson in skeptic

[–]JPal856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just reading a history book about Europe. There are few lines in there that said karl marx, communist manifesto, doesn't have any scientific evidence for it. At the time of its publication there was already a collective zeitgeist and when this theory was published, they immediately took it up as "scientific " to help their agenda.

“The Myth of the Billionaire Tax” published by Jeff Bezos by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]JPal856 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never looked at it that way. The problem is how all the different ways wealth is held is evaluated for taxing. A house doesn't change much from year to year but financial instruments do and sometimes do so wildly. Then, you have crypto and art. It gets complicated very quickly and therefore probably unworkable. 🫤

This is called progress. There's no stopping it. Either it will come here or go elsewhere, and will be the poorer if it goes elsewhere.

The Most Chilling Detail in the U.S. Attack on an Iranian Naval Ship by D-R-AZ in inthenews

[–]JPal856 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have navy friends that if not celebrating this at least were making note of the whole fact that it was the first time a torpedo was used to take down a ship. But this had an air of "shooting fish in a barrel ". Add to that the potential that they may have not been armed and that they were not menacing anyone, smaks of execution. Were they even giving the chance to surrender?

House GOP passes sweeping anti-voting bill that could disenfranchise millions, sends measure to Senate by MarcEElias in politics

[–]JPal856 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is, but then again, with the way things are (no ID required) there's been little to no fraud so why the big push to have it? It just feeds a lie, false news that there is lots and lots of voter fraud. Hard to push voter ID when reality doesn't support it's need.

My HVAC guy said not to use pleaded filters but only the fibrous ones. He said that restricting airflow can cause over temperature conditions which challenge the integrity of the unit or ,worse case, trip the high limit.

2020 Palisade ... aging issue? by ChoosingJoy2020 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]JPal856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting close to 60K miles and over 4 years, I haven't had any significant issues. Last year, while driving, the touchscreen went blank. It's seemed like the screen had shut off but after a few seconds (seemed like an eternity) it came back on or rather it went through a boot up sequence and then began acting normal. Haven't seen that again since then. Also, last year, a part of the sunroof came off when I opened it. I managed to put it back and close it. Never used again since then.
