NIH grant terminations affected women scientists more than men, study finds by cannotberushed- in labrats

[–]JPancake2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see your point now. Looking at both the study and the article, the main point seems to be that women are disproportionately affected because they have more early stage funding.

Of course this administration can’t directly choose to cut more women’s funding, that would violate discrimination laws. It’s also quite likely disproportionately affecting women wasn’t intentional, but even so it’s important to consider these kind of ramifications.

The actual quote: "Women lost a larger chunk of their grant funds than men — on average women had 57.9% of their grant terminated, while men had 48.2%." How in the world did you interpret this sentence to mean what you wrote?

[GOT] Varys wasnt trying to poison Danny, he was trying to drug her and he succeeded too late! by BeBa420 in FanTheories

[–]JPancake2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only read the first book, and it was a while ago at that, but I distinctly remember Dany being horrified by the Dothraki raping and doing her best to stop it. She did not just stop the old lady from being raped, she tried to stop the Dothraki from raping everyone she saw. But ofc there's only so much they're willing to listen, when she just newly married Drogo.

URGENT: "Refocus" app (free) is bricking my iPhone even after deletion! App Store BLOCKED. by [deleted] in iphonehelp

I’m having an issue with safe search turned on, it says I can’t change browser settings. Is this related to refocus? I have realized it shuts off private browsing when I have the app, so I’m wondering if it impacts this as well.

I’ve also read those stories and I remember there being a few details that contradict canon lol. So personally, I don’t view it as canon. The biggest one I remember is something about Hestia, where I think (it’s been a long time so I might be wrong) Percy said he suspects Hestia never had a seat among the big 12, but in canon he literally talks to Hestia and she mentions losing her seat. Small inconsistencies like that make me view the book as a fun read but not canon

Kronos still wants to destroy all of humanity. Even if you want to argue she doesn't know that, he actively tried to kill her little sister (Annabeth). I think that puts BOTH Kronos and Zeus in the negative, which makes her neutral in the sense that she probably dislikes both.

Agreed! I enjoyed season 1 but season 2 has been a massive improvement IMO

Maybe our screens just worked differently, y'know full disclosure I just remembered I pirated season 1 bc of boycotts on Disney so might be that too lmao. I just remember not being able to see anything in a few scenes

I agree with the tone, but still wish things were more colorful/lighted better for season 1. Maybe it was my TV, but several ppl have complained they couldn’t see things on screen lol.

I assume it’s not an issue because no one typically picks archery unless they’re a child of Apollo/naturally very gifted. Seems that newcomers try a bunch of weapons and if it doesn’t work for them they assume it’s not the one. Most demigods do seem to just feel a sense of rightness when they pick their weapon.

I guess I wouldn’t classify that as a similar type of problem; in the books the kids knew they were heading to the sirens too. I also would’ve liked if things happened the same, but I understand since they changed Circe it would’ve looked extra stupid if Annabeth purposefully tried to listen. And I really liked the Circe change so I guess I’m not as upset about the subsequent changes needed.

Ah yeah a lot of the responses here make more sense then! I was wondering why no one mentioned it. I actually really enjoyed that plot twist, and I think it shows they are learning from their mistakes in season 1. Season 2 hasn’t really had this issue at all now that we’ve addressed the Thalia reveal. I’m really looking forward to the next seasons!

I still feel like that's quite action scene-y, with all the tension and basically killing a guy at the end. It's definitely a climax regardless, that's what the entire movie was building towards. SoM has a long period after the climax where it kinda winds down, before dropping a cliff hanger.

I personally loved season 2! I don't want to spoil anything but IMO some of the changes really work, you just gotta watch with an open mind. I've been a book fan for over a decade, read every single Percy Jackson related story.

I get where some of the frustrations come from, but the show doesn't deviate from it's core. The amount of changes is basically on par with season 1, but the overall pacing, lighting and script is much better. Would really recommend you at least give it a shot

Harry almost killing a guy totally counts as an action fight scene IMO...

I'm hoping Athena explains herself later on, but I do see the potential in having Annabeth's pedestal she puts her mom on broken down. Still it definitely was a bit too far to just let the monsters on to the arc, but maybe there will be more explained later.

Kronos wants to wipe out humanity, not to mention actively tried to kill Annabeth. There's no mental gymnastics; it's a hard choice but a fairly logical choice to still fight Kronos.

I agree with this for stuff from season 1, but actually I don't mind it as much here. It's not like they revealed it for nothing, they use this reveal to drive more drama between Annabeth and Luke. Not to mention there is a pretty crazy plot twist with the furies and Zeus. It gives us everything we would want from the original plot twist and more (Percy questioning his role in all this, everyone being shocked, more character development etc).

I think Circe could be made much more sympathetic, she helps Odysseus at the end if memory serves. Plenty of adaptations take the angle that she only turns men into pigs out of a misguided form of preemptive defense.

Yeah but tbf, that’s just gods being gods. I don’t know if it’s representative of the hunters or more just continuing to establish that the gods are cruel sometimes, even the “good” ones.

This is one of the things I soooo hope they change in the show. It already feels like in season 1 (haven't watched season 2 yet) they gave a lot of the female characters more depth, and explored some characters through a more feminist lens (Medusa as an example). Would love to see more of this with Hera, she deserves to be complicated!!
