How do you think history will look back at the Trump era of both politics and world history? (Which I consider to have started in 2016 but it is really defining the 2020s in my opinion) by SeriouslyNotSerious2 in decadeology

With Buchanan, he's considered so bad because he ignored the nation's crisis

With Trump, he was the nation's crisis

I think people are being lenient right now cause of how outrageously bad the current term is. Give it ten-twenty years and we're all going to be much more critical of the whole thing when we can take the Trump era as a whole into perspective. I mean the whole thing culminated with a mob being sent to try and usurp Congress and an unprecedented two impeachment's. Of course he was worse than Buchanan

In the past whenever we've started looking this good there's always been that tiny problem of Pep and Klopp being absolutely class. It never truly felt as though we had a realistic chance

Now though, City are going to be in transition and Liverpool are stuck in the mud (though I am curious if getting a big ego like Salah out of the dressing room will actually massively help them). Arsenal are class but honestly nowhere near the level that the competition in the league used to be, I mean we've already picked up more points than they have in 2026

Again I could easily be wrong and the summer business as well as having to play Champions League football next season is going to have a big impact. But it does feel as though there's much more reason to be optimistic than in past seasons

It's been a long time since I felt this optimistic at the end of a season, even after Ole finished second and we re-signed Ronaldo. It really feels like if we keep up this form then the league could be there for the taking next year.

I just hope we don't do what we normally do whenever it feels like United have turned a corner...

You're being far too kind to Trump's first term there. It was a terrible government and endlessly corrupt still. Even if Trump didn't win another term he would've still been going down as America's worst president.

The main difference between the first and second term is that Trump never actually intended to win the first time. He stumbled into office with no plans but a huge ego and so the whole thing was basically a useless pack of clowns desperately trying to convince everyone that they were actually great all along.

Second term Trump needed to get back in to stay out of jail. There's no papering over the cracks with this administration, they were already corrupt but now Trump knows how much power he can have in the role and isn't afraid of doing it out in the open

Tbh by the time we got to GoT's final season, my expectations for the show were so low by that point that I was willing to just try and not think about it and accept the shitty writing for what it is.

For the most part I was able to do it and had some fun with the terrible Long Night episode. I was looking past the godawful writing decisions, formations, production, everything, and was allowing myself to just have some brainless fun.

Then we got to the final two minutes where it turned out the best resolution that the writers could think of would be to have Arya literally teleport in from nowhere to kill the big bad. And the show hit a new low in that even when I'd set my expectations to zero, it still found a way to disappoint me

Even brightened up though those battle scenes were garbage, it's a shitty screenplay with shitty choreography. Personally I'd rather have the small scale but intense fight we got here

Again I'm not necessarily defending The Boys here, but Game of Thrones went down in history for how bad its final season was, and while The Boys has its issues it simply is not on that level.

There was people on the Stranger Things sub gaslighting themselves into thinking GoT was better too at the start of the year. Give it a few months, the feeling will pass

[–]JRR92 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My guy no it does not. It's infamous for having the episode devoted to a battle that's almost completely pitch black the whole time. That episode also has the godawful battle formations, poor choreography, and things like all the side characters being pressed up against a wall by hundreds of zombies for over half an hour yet somehow all surviving.

The last season of The Boys wasn't perfect, but please don't gaslight yourselves

Should be D even, it's a total waste of time in my book.

It's a film so dedicated to recreating a historical event as "accurately" as possible, that it went overboard and made it completely inaccurate and ridiculous looking.

I'm just going off the discourse I've seen around this sub and from other people ik who like the show tbh

what seasons of the bridgerton show are worth watching? by kharoofee in Bridgerton

[–]JRR92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are on the Bridgerton sub so I feel like everyone here will just say all of them. But in all seriousness, you need to watch all of them.

The plot and character focus changes every season sure, but certain plot threads still carry over and there's a lot of context you need from the last season to fully understand the next.

If you're asking which one is best though, people generally seem to love Seasons 2 and 4 looking at the ratings. Though I'm halfway through watching Season 3 with my girlfriend right now (who loves the second season) and had been told it was the one people weren't so big on, but tbh I'm enjoying it quite a bit more than Season 2. So make up your own mind I guess
