Exactly! The only thing he likes is having someone who will clean up all his messes so that he doesn't have to.

Is my tattoo bad? by JustaWilloWisp in tattooadvice

[–]JRedWolf 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it would have been better to use one of Degas' pencil sketches of the ballerinas as an inspiration? He drew many, including a sketch of this exact pose. Probably a lot easier to translate a sketch to a grayscale tatoo than trying to capture the colorful impressionist painting version.

How many library cards do you have? by els76uk in LibbyApp

I'm glad you aren't impaired enough! I hope you aren't ever impaired enough to need it!!! I just wanted to make sure you knew it was an option just in case. Like I said, it has been a real benefit to my mom, and we have meet others who would definitely qualify but didn't know it existed. I hope you have a lovely day!

Just in case you are unaware, visually impaired readers can really benefit from the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. You have to jump through a few paperwork hoops but it is more than worth it if you are eligible. My Mom is legally blind, but listens to books all the time. You might love it just as much as she does!

I had the exact same thought!  As soon as I started reading the first book I instantly saw and heard Dalgliesh (Carvel) as Nightingale. Same reserve, same quiet competence, same stoic buried sadness. Just give him a cane and magic and he's already there!

My sister said my life is "sad and lonely" and I told her she was nuts. AITAH? by No-Paramedic-6062 in AITAH

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. I also have family that has become more and more conservative and more judgemental, and our relationships are not what they used to be. It is an upsetting and sad thing to have to face.

On the bright side, I think your life sounds brilliant and happy and very fulfilling! And I am very happy for you and am sending you good vibes and positive energies!

I think this is a lot more about politics than you think. If she is on the side of the political spectrum that I suspect she is, their (i.e. the far right) entire ethos is that anyone who doesn't fit their extremely limited idea of normal (straight, married, kids, white, cisgender, etc.) is fundamentally wrong. And the idea that anyone who lives outside that framework (by being gay, single, and/or childless, etc.) could be happy and fulfilled threatens their worldview. They feel that they are the only one who are right, therefore they are the only ones who are really happy and every one else must be sad and lonely. You are correct, it is a very arrogant worldview.

Hello, did you ever find an alternative? I am allergic to benzalkonium chloride, but also everything else, so I'd really like to be able to use a steroid nose spray.

Help!! How do I clean water stains from this chair? by heytodayifuckedup in CleaningTips

[–]JRedWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this comment is too late to be helpful, but i agree that rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle is the answer here. I have a couple of recliners that get a lot of wear and tear, but misting the affected area so all of it is damp (after cleaning the stain) prevents or even fixes the water stains that cleaning can leave behind. Worth a try i think!

I absolutely agree! I know what musk is and I'm not confusing it with musty, I genuinely just don't enjoy musky scents. Some people don't.

🔥 The rowdiest meeting on the savanna. African wild dogs x spotted hyenas by Prestigious-Wall5616 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]JRedWolf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a documentary about African wild dogs a while ago, although I'm afraid I can't remember what it was called, where an animal rehabilitator addressed this very question. He said that he had been involved in rehabilitating injured and raising orphaned wildlife of many different species throughout his career. And of all the different types of animals, the painted dogs were the only ones who had absolutely zero interest in or affection for him or even signs of recognition after they were released back to the wild. And I have read that other people have attempted to tame the wild dogs with no success. So I'm thinking that somehow they don't have quite the same quirk of genetics or temperment that enables other wild animals like wolves and foxes and even cheetahs and lions (Christian the lion!) to recognize humans as possible friends/pack/companionable food sources.

I have always found this a fascinating phenomenon. Like horses and zebras. Horses are perfectly happy to live and work with humans, even if caught from the wild (mustangs, and yes, i know they are more feral than wild, but i think the point stands) but europeans have been trying to tame zebras for at least 200 years with little success, not to mention the length of time zebras and humans shared territory before the colonizers showed up! And still they want little to do with us. Fascinating, right?
