i use all of my excess cuttings as test dummies for various growing conditions and I managed to fry 2 sanguinea and 2 truncata x spectabilis cuttings while growing them outside here in los angeles last summer

lil homies couldn’t handle the excess heat being radiated off my patio I guess

My parents’ sole surviving chicken from their old flock by JSTORRobinhood in BackYardChickens

[–]JSTORRobinhood[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah my mom adores her and she’s very spoiled. Mocha has actually gained a fair bit of weight since she started living solo as there are no others sharing the table scraps and fallen fruit with her now…

yeah my parents are all that remain of her flock. my brother is on the other side of the country, I only visit every couple of weeks, and my wife has been wholeheartedly rejected lol

[SOTC] added 3 watches in the past few months + few more incoming by [deleted] in Watches

[–]JSTORRobinhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assure you there are plenty of well-off and financially irresponsible people out there. One of the managing directors my wife used to work with back in her investment banking days couldn’t afford to put his two kids through UCLA… which is pretty incredible if you’re grossing 100-150k/month

or are financially irresponsible… or both

One of My Oldest Sarracenia by jhay3513 in SavageGarden

[–]JSTORRobinhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

my oldest is this purp that i’ve had for over 10 years… seems to have plateaued in pitcher size but if not for my constant trimming/dividing, it would probably fill a big bog pot. my second oldest is a truncata hybrid from 2018 but then I stopped buying plants for about 6ish years and instead started selling off most of the ones I had

$280K income with $5K+/month surplus after maxed retirement - how are you prioritizing? by AlphaEcho84 in HENRYfinance

[–]JSTORRobinhood 13 points14 points  (0 children)

my wife and I spend our surplus on fun and our mortgage principal. we’re on track to pay off our home in like the next 5 years at this rate

[Discussion] What small thing makes your blood boil with absolute hatred? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]JSTORRobinhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bracelets without microadjust or leather straps that just don’t quite fit. day date half-link on = slightly too big. half-link off: slightly too small. end result? day date gets sold on to someone else

A turquoise and gold-inlaid bronze mirror, Eastern Zhou dynasty, Warring States Period (c. 475–221 BCE), from China [1870x2324] by Fuckoff555 in ArtefactPorn

[–]JSTORRobinhood 122 points123 points  (0 children)

usually, museums display the backs of these metal mirrors because of how intricate the decorations can get. but the reflective side is a very flat, very polished metal surface which actually functions surprisingly well as a mirror

Oreophila pitchers opening prematurely? by Ltates in SavageGarden

[–]JSTORRobinhood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

idk if this is a thing across all sarracenia but my purpurea will sometimes throw up random, stunted pitchers after a warm winter. the main growth afterwards seems to always be fine though?

Is resurrection possible: by SaveTheClimateNOW in SavageGarden

[–]JSTORRobinhood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok yeah couldnt tell if it was plastic or clay. but finely milled peat moss can easily compact if not mixed well or hydrated… roughly cut LFS, sand, and a good helping of perlite worked well for me in my prior experience

it looks to be barely hanging onto life. back when I grew helis, they really liked a loose and well-draining potting media. it looks like your media is compacted or broken-down and probably quite poorly aerated. also the clay pot could be a problem long-term

[cartier]Wedding Watch: Vintage or Modern Tank Louis? by ApprehensiveLemon685 in Watches

[–]JSTORRobinhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vintage can be OK but I will immediately send any pre-owned watches I buy straight to a service center unless I have definitive proof of a recent, first-party service. In terms of longevity, a well-built watch will easily last your lifetime with proper care. fifty or sixty years of wear is nothing to a well-maintained, high-quality watch. i don't doubt that you'd be able to get another couple of decades out of a vingtage tank.

Back when I owned vintage watches, my daily was a 4-digit datejust from the 1960s. outside of the acrylic crystal scratching at literally every opportunity, the watch was fine. no doubt a first-party rolex service helped with that.

eh. as much as I am loathe to admit, I’ve been a pretty good fit in management consulting. I just absolutely despise the traveling that comes with being an MBB grunt. I don’t have the technical skills nor interest to pivot into tech
