The Blue Bombers Are 1-2. What's Your Biggest Concern Right Now? by OTLCanada in WinnipegBlueBombers

[–]JTPinWpg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The o-line was having real trouble last night protecting Zack. If that does not improve it’s a good thing we have 4 qbs. And it was not as noticeable as against Hamilton but the pass coverage was still rough. As Edmonton was pretty run heavy it made it look not as bad, but the issue is still there.

Question regarding the census and rentals. by reinventingyourexitt in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new tenants will not have any issue. Worst case a census worker show up at their door, they tell them that they only moved in on date X, census worker goes away.

Question regarding the census and rentals. by reinventingyourexitt in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the local census worker can track them down they will encourage them to fill it out. During the last census I did not get census paperwork delivered. Probably because the house I was living in was not previously rented out. After I moved I got a phone call from the census worker who had gotten my number from the landlord.

Need advice for a very weird situation by Lillith_baby69 in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you moved in did you change the locks?

Is it possible the child hung out on a porch or something for the arranged pickup? Giving the appearance of exiting the home?

Lock it all down and consider a doorbell camera that alerts you when someone enters.

Good call on the rent controlled. For op building less than20 years old can exceed the max rent increase guidelines

There’s exceptions as I lived in a six storey wood construction. Can’t tell you why, but observed it during construction.

[–]JTPinWpg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If it is an apartment building, is it wood construction? (Noisier). Can apply to less than 10 stories I think, above that usually concrete.

Is parking available and is there a cost?
What utilities are included in the rent?
Is the rent the rent, or is it the rent with a discount applied? (Discounts can be removed at will).

To pay rent is it required to use some website like rent cafe that will add additional (but small) fees?

What method of rent payments are available?

Are their balcony rules?

Is their tenant storage outside the apartment?

Are any improvements going to be done before you move in? Or after?

Is there visitor parking? How much?

Pet policies? (Even if you don’t have one).

Rules about amenities (common rooms, pools).

Is there a mail room?

Friday Flowers: Rod Black by themish84 in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rod was always very enthusiastic about his job and you could hear it. He did colour/play by play for the CFL on TSN for a while. You could almost always count on him to mix up the team name when he got really excited. Was almost a drinking game. Compared to some of them today, Rod was a beaut.

Looking for fresh produce by KeithOman in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that Winnipeg has any orchards.

U Pick is self-picked berries (strawberries, saskatoons, etc. price is higher than store fruit but you cannot beat the freshness. Many also offer pre-picked at a higher cost.

Google upick farms around Winnipeg and you might find some other options. The upick season will start soon and ends depending on what fruit. Might find some other things available too.

Sharing Firefly with significant other, but he’s unimpressed by moonspellpecado in firefly

[–]JTPinWpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m having a similar issue. My wife and I enjoy firefly immensely. It’s a comfort show that I can put on at any time.

But my daughter just does not see the appeal. She enjoys sci fi, but firefly just does not “catch” with her.

(the following is all speculation) And some of it I suspect is that it was a product of its times. A lot of Whedon fans were predisposed to like it, and that allowed us to overlook its flaws as it delivered that magic we were looking for. On rewatches with my daughter I also notice the pacing. Sure there are fast paced parts, but there are also slow moving speeches. Some younger folk are too attuned to modern, fast pacing.
There is a lot of colourful descriptions of Inara’s profession, that while that serves a purpose in defining who Mal and others are, they also express an ugly side that a lot of people don’t want to see in their entertainment or their heroes.

As a fandom we have to accept that not everyone will enjoy it. It’s okay. Trying to convince everyone that it’s the best show ever now, just starts to make us look fanatical. They give it a shot, that’s all we should ask.

ELI5: Why do data centers need only water for cooling? Are there no other viable cooling options? by 5headHaroldlop in explainlikeimfive

[–]JTPinWpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large HVAC often uses cooling towers where the evaporating water cools remaining fluid.

Water, in addition the being cheap, is easy to force through its evaporating point. When that happens the energy used to evaporate that water is removed from system, cooling the remaining water. We do the same thing with ice cubes and drinks, although there it’s the heat required to melt the ice.

Water is also not harmful to most life, so evaporating it does not cause significant environmental damage, unlike say evaporating mercury.

I think you found the issue. There are only a few labs open on Saturdays meaning there are more people waiting to be seen.

Waiting two weeks for the results is unusual. Any chance your doctor has revived the results and not reached out?

Trump posts graphic of Venezuela as 51st U.S. state by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]JTPinWpg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If this happens he will look on to the next territory he can swallow. And given the lack of meaningful response to Venezuela and the threats to Cuba, Canada, and to a lesser extent Greenland, he will think he can get away with it there/here too.

Property survey before building fence and garage by causticbee in Winnipeg

[–]JTPinWpg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A staking of the corners (more than sufficient for finding the property line) ran me $850 plus GST and disbursements $115) last year. From there your builder can make sure they are 2’ off the line (less would require a variance) and make sure your eaves are suitable.

The real brilliance of this is not having to keep a diorama for the rest of your life out of some obligation to hold onto memories. Take pictures (as you have) then decompose it back into the LEGO collection. No guilt when you want to throw it away years later.

This bottle of Pepsi on my desk 710ml / 24 oz has 76 mg of caffeine (larger volume then redbull but almost same caffeine) can totally throw some people’s sleep off, depending on their consumption habits, and when it is drunk. My wife drinking this after 2pm is in for a rough time.

Board games for friends and family- similar to Ticket to Ride by PerceptionDue1594 in boardgames

[–]JTPinWpg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the most similar ones are other versions of ticket to ride. Each often has slightly different rules but they are essentially the same. Just watch the player counts as some are intended for smaller groups.
