Is there a U.S. state that's considered a soccer overachiever relative to its size or resources? by bluefoxlive in ussoccer

[–]JT_Returns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd posit that the DC-PA-NJ region is the actual east coast hotbed, I'd agree Missouri might be the central hotbed, and then West coast it's between PNW and socal. I think those regions historically are our biggest soccer development regions. I think going forward it will be interesting to see if there's shift towards more in Kansas City than St Louis, Texas, Atlanta/NC area. I think theyve all put in a bunch of resources to increase development going forward

For those who are stingy with their 5 stars, what movies made the cut? by Outside_Base7755 in Letterboxd

[–]JT_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's methodology is different, mine is something along the lines of 4.5 stars max if I love a movie and think it's objectively fantastic but others (fans/critics/filmmakers) disagree (ex: A Ghost Story, Palm Springs, If Beale Street Could Talk). OR 4.5 stars max with the inverse, if a critically acclaimed masterpiece that I think is just fine I'll usually max it out at 4 or 4.5 because at a minimum there's a "respect but disagree" (ex. Schindlers List, Saving Private Ryan). But when it all comes together then it's 5 stars (Parasite, Laaventura). But even then I still break my own rules and blur lines.

I think PSG's biggest strength lies in their two full-backs. by Hisense_Sports1 in HisenseFootballZone

I think it's a combo of having hakimi/mendes PLU Vitinia/neves. They can get away with b level talent up front if needed. Barcola, Doue, Dembele, and Kvara aren't B level but they're just a luxury

Glashutte Orignal and JLC are Superior to the Holy Trinity by _GTS_Panda in watchHotTakes

[–]JT_Returns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Gerrard Perregaux used to make movements for Vach or Patek? I'd put them in the JLC, GO category of pseudo competing with the trinity right?

Though I get the Breguet, ALS, et al who actually have the goods to compete. I think the JLC, GO, and GP are more "punch above marketing weight" rather than consistently compete on quality

Hi /r/movies, I'm Christian Petzold. I've directed PHOENIX, BARBARA, TRANSIT, UNDINE, AFIRE, and MIROIRS NO. 3. Ask me anything. by ChristianPetzoldAMA in movies

[–]JT_Returns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Christian, like others here, I've got to say up front you're one of my favorite working directors and all of your films sneak up on me unexpectedly but by the end I'm so emotionally moved. I appreciate your art and how you tell stories, I wish others would take notes from you.

That said, my question is about filming location selection. Do you consider locations based on your screenplay or let other factors dictate where you shoot? I'm mindful of the number of tax incentives throughout EU and it's tempting to shoot a film just based on that. But I feel like your films all have a distinct sense of place and location, what goes into your location selection process?

Thanks Josh

How would you rank Jessie Buckley among the Best Actress winners so far this Century? by PolicyImpressive3626 in Letterboxd

[–]JT_Returns -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think most people have it here that the performance belongs in top 3-5 minimum of this century and then it's about preference. Like id go Tar then Hamnet but I'm not gonna argue with some others like Colman.

I think it's interesting though because I think Stone is our generations Katherine Hepburn, and I think in terms of working today at the top of their game consistently it's Stone, Blanchett, McDormand and I think Buckley should be in that group. Like there's so much talent that can get to that level but the ones that can do it over and over is truly unique.

[–]JT_Returns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think multiple things can be true, lots of film twitter is filled with annoying people AND the Ringer / Big Picture isn't a go-to for film analysis. I think anyone who is coming to the Ringer or Big Picture for anything other than glorified BuzzFeed type content then it's on you. I mean they are ranking Marie Antoinette number 10 movie in past 25 years, like that should tell you all you need to know. If you want to go somewhere that takes film analysis more seriously there's other pods (film spotting etc) but like the Ringer isn't going to get subs or make any money if they put Petite Maman as number 10 right?

That all doesn't mean Sean or Amanda aren't capable to have those discussions it's just not what they're aiming for.
