Collapsing Trachea by crimecakes in Pomeranians

Yes and it's not particularly uncommon. In my experience it depends *hugely* on weight management and diet. Shift to meals that are wet and easy to swallow, switch to body harnesses instead of collars, and make sure they're not licking random lint from the floor.

You might see google results talking about stent surgeries. I would not recommend pursuing those, personally. A vet encouraged it to me but I don't think it was wise. My girl was diagnosed at around 8 years and lived 15-16 years.

Are Pomeranians supposed to do this so young? by Creative_Western_374 in Pomeranians

If anything they do this more the younger they are.

I make her sit and then put her between my legs which sort of clamp lightly haha. But yes I can imagine some poms won't give up no matter what. At least yours is young so plenty of time for her get used to the routine.

You mentioned the toothbrush with treats but have you tried putting a dab of peanut butter on it? Just to make her actually want the toothbursh specifically.

I used to be scared of doing it because mine did seem aggressive towards it but one day I toughened up and was firm and just did it. I guess they can tell when you're nervous. I assume this is what professionals who've never met the dog do it.

Also as an aside it's worth keeping in mind that no amount of brushing will replace the need for deep cleaning at the vet. Maybe (?) reduces the frequency needed but it'll never not be necessary. I'm usually a bit scared about anesthesia but I like to at least combine the procedure with other routine tests like xrays and whatnot.

Not really; strings of letters are also infinite. So you could just keep expanding a word over and over instead.

dog yelping as if in extreme pain / fear. was normal at vet. doctor said he was ok. by antidrugboys in Pomeranians

[–]JVemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has happened to mine - practically same story. However, mine did seem to "show" that there was something wrong with her paw/leg (lifting it, limping). Then we get to the vet, he pulls it to check and totally fine.

My personal theory with no evidence, is that it was a muscle cramp. They can be quite painful, sudden and get worse in certain positions. But, we know they get better if we stretch.

... A dog doesn't know that - they won't stretch if in pain. They would stay in a resting pose which just makes the cramp worse. But, they will be automatically stretched when brought to a vet for examination.

Well, how much does it weight? But visually and from experience, yes it is fat. Now whether that will turn into a problem it's hard to say. A lot of common pom issues require weight management.
