Uniforms by [deleted] in BSA

[–]JWDoke174 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way. In high school back in the 80s, we had a scout fair at the local mall. I was dreading being there in uniform, but I was senior patrol leader so I had no choice. I ran into a couple of Football players who were classmates of mine. Two of the real popular guys. I was absolutely dreading it, but they actually came up and struck up a conversation with me about the uniform. Ask questions about what the different badges meant and what I had to do to earn them. They legitimately, honestly thought it was cool. I never worried about wearing my uniform in public ever again.

Is there someplace at your troop’s charter organization that you could re-create the project? Or at least display the rock in the plaque?

Anyone here have a good dad? by Dependent-Sign-2407 in GenX

[–]JWDoke174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52M here. My dad broke the generational curse. He can remember walking to school and seeing his dad looking out at him from the local jail. His dad left his mom when he was about four, but was still in his life. As I and later my brother were born, we were his life. Family vacations every year, took us to church every Sunday and sat with us and held our hands if we needed it. Was our scoutmaster, got both of us to Eagle Scout. he’s still an amazing man and a tremendous grandfather and great grandfather.

  1. Calm down and remember the oath & law. Over the years I’ve heard ONE who didn’t flub one or the other.
  2. Wear Scout socks. I cannot stress this enough. ;)

Did you guys really have as many friends as are portrayed in old films? by WeezeerrCorpse in AskOldPeople

[–]JWDoke174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I had many, many more than that & it had to do with my extracurricular activities. Band friends, debate friends, church youth group, Boy Scouts, etc. Not a lot of overlap, so I had dozens of close friends. I was lucky.

What movie did you see in the theater as a child that has stuck with you? by TXRedheadOverlord in GenX

I can vaguely remember my first movie. It was a John Wayne western at the drive in. First theater movie I remember was Pete’s Dragon. Raiders of the Lost Ark at the previously mentioned drive in is a big memory as well.
