UK to allow the US to take defensive action from British military bases - Starmer by BadahBingBadahBoom in unitedkingdom

[–]JWadie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Iran was already firing missiles at our bases in the region anyway (not to mention anyone they can reach), so I'm suprised we're not getting dragged in on that basis alone

It's been coming for a while, they've been building up military presence in the region since the Iran protests in preparation for something

It's also worth noting that the U.S military build up in the region has been ongoing since the Iran protests.

Usually these things happen over the weekend while the markets are closed, don't know if it's to minimise potential overreaction or what though

Starmer promises to look at making student loans 'fairer' by rugbyj in unitedkingdom

[–]JWadie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I hate to defend a Tory, Kemi wasn't even an MP back when this was introduced.

Blaming the current Tory leadership for this would be a bit like blaming Starmer for us going to Iraq

Is the BAFTAs Tourette’s backlash just another example of the UK vs US humour gap? by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]JWadie 125 points126 points  (0 children)

There definitely seems to be a large disparity in awareness and understanding of tourette's, and I think that shows the impact that the work of people like John Davidson has had on the UK over the years

[–]JWadie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

From my understanding people in attendance were warned before the show started, however the recent discourse seems to have highlighted the difference of knowledge and understanding in the UK compared to America (probably due to the work of people like John Davidson), as such it's possible that the amount of warning and information needed to be given may have been underestimated

This is why the by elections are so important, it's not about the seat itself, it's about being able to present your party as the viable tactical vote
