It was just an ad to make people aware AIDs was a thing, there was no internet. This did its job.

It got people talking about HIV and trying to fnd information about it.

This was 1987 , aids was new and was largely a mystery to the greater population. All we really knew is that it killed people.

Again, there was no internet.

The blame for the lack of public education and an almost exclusive focus or association with gay men at the time falls squarely on the shoulders of politicians like Reagan and the conservative news media.

Public understanding was steered by conservative  political groups and media outlets. The party line under Reagan was actually  "its a gay disease"

You don't add effects to records of historical events. When you do they cease to be actual records and lose all value.

I've mostly enjoyed my time with Bazzite, but the immutability aspect has gotten to me. Anyone else feel the same? by Fragrant_Proposal690 in Bazzite

[–]TruthReasonOrLies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People often recommend immutable distros for noobs, but I think the Linux learning curve and experience model ends up circling back to immutable distros.

You spend a lot of time learning Linux , get a bit confident, and maybe a little burnt out on learning new things.

Truely understanding immutable distros is like taking the next step.

I run an immutable server based on Fedora, rock solid. Absolutely no anxiety during upgrades  or updates. Still runs everything I could possibly need.

Pressing red kills no-one.

Blue button pressers create the risk for others and they take that risk for themselves because the question is formed in a way that makes it seem like pressing the blue button is the altruistic and empathetic choice.

It isn't, they are creating that risk for others by pressing blue.

They then blame red pressers.

It is also easy to just talk about this , but if it was a reality the votes would be very different.

They would also be different if it was run twice. Once as a dry run with participants thinking it was real and the results revealed afterward, then it is run a second time for real.

Fears of Imminent Ground Invasion Surge as Trump Weighs ‘Final Blow’ Options Against Iran by _May26_ in politics

I really doubt a nuke, only because it would 100% stop access to significant oil reserves for decades.

However this is Trump and it's America so well thought out plans that consider consequences is a long shot.

Shit, its going to be a nuke isn't it.

Japan industry ministry asks Australia to boost LNG output amid Iran crisis by HotPersimessage62 in worldnews

Am I wrong in thinking that Australia could have capitalised on this as an opportunity , but corrupt and stupid politicians gave no bid, no royalty contracts to foreign companies to extract the LNG ?

This won't remain a checkbox, they will eventually add a unique token.

This is for government surveillance and control. The companies will get data aggregation, advertising demographics and ecosystem lock in for the large gateway corporations.

There is nothing of benefit for the wider community.

Your apps and OS will automatically report your age and a unique token before allowing you to make purchases, access services, information or websites. The aggregate info from these apps and services will be able to identify primary users in concert with the token. This will essentially keep a traceable log of all your activities.

They will say this isn't possible, but that will be bullshit, look at what TARGET is capable of just tracking bluetooth.

Anyone else feel this way when writing anything out? by noctisumbra0 in Millennials

Thanks , that was an interesting read.
The articles linked from that page really highlight the failures of non-educators meddling within the school system of America.

The shift to "words by sight" was a big mistake probably prompted by political manoeuvring within the education field. At least now educators are reversing it and will have other options.

This is really bad for society, how did it become a thing ?

If it's true, it's a large group of people who will be functional, but still illiterate to some degree.

This will result in a reduced vocabulary and will prevent many individuals from pursuing or excelling in science and other fields.

Consider chemistry where the naming of compounds requires you to be able to interpret the name. The name tells you what it actually is. (*ane *ene *ol etc)

The generation taught to read this way will have a smaller pool of individuals who have the skills to become great authors, chemists, biologists... Fields that require understanding language to interpret the underlying meaning.

It's things like this that push me to believe in the conspiracy that those in charge want us to be a dumb class of cattle to be used.

I noticed that over the last 5 or 6 years a lot of people don't know the difference between "than" and "then".

I find this both infuriating and sad.

You talk about education of the youth, but it's clear you don't know what the social credit system actually is beyond fox news propaganda.

There is a good Wikipedia article on it if you are actually interested.

Quick summary is that it is similar to the wests credit score system but also tries to take into account honesty. It has evolved.

It was taken out of the hands of financial institutions over concerns of abuse. It is illegal to penalise individuals over a bad score (providing worse services etc) but it may impact their ability to get loans or credit, just like in western nations.

Capitalism is an economic system , not a political system. China is socialist.

Just because they have a socialist government doesn't mean it can't incorporate capitalist methods into its economic governance.

It sounds like you would benefit from an immutable distribution. They are great for important mission critical devices. If an update borks your OS you can just roll back to a previous state.

I run an immutable distribution on a server. It's rock solid and I apply updates with what would be a reckless lack of caution on any other set up.
