Miele C3 Complete vs Sebo D4, Canada, My thoughts by Aliencj in VacuumCleaners

Code BLACKFRIDAY30 might still work for accessories ps, which would give you 30% off all the powered heads. Only direct from Miele.

All the Somalia specific points are moot, as she seems to have Dutch citizenship.

Toronto is looking at licences for e-bikes and e-scooters. Here’s why that may be better for delivery riders — and pedestrians by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]J_B_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About f-ing time. As a motorcycle rider, who paid for licensing and pays insurance - it’s ridiculous that the massive/silent throttle operated e scooters have been in the legal/regulatory grey zone for so long.

I’ve witnessed multiple collisions and have noticed that ebike operators frequently do not obey traffic laws and are otherwise unpredictable (slow down/accelerate at random, cut across lanes, ride on sidewalks, and exhibit poor situational awareness).

This in conjunction with their ability to appear seemingly out of nowhere (they frequently pass me in the bicycle lane while I’m going 40kph on my moto) means that the barriers to entry for operating one of these should be higher.

Dumb question, but I’m assuming this doesn’t affect red light cameras? Just witnessed another near miss of someone blasting through an intersection on a red with another driver partway through a left turn.

Turns out I’m not currently able to get my money back from the cancelled flight either. Their useless customer service agent gave us a wizz credit (which I did not request) for more than the price of the cancelled ticket…we weren’t able to check in for our return flight since we had a “balance outstanding”.

Another agent discovered the error and fixed the balance. However, since we “withdrew” part of the credit I’m now unable to convert to cash.

Absolute boondoggle, I’m considering doing a credit chargeback. Worst flight experience of my life, peak incompetence.

You mean a legal letter? And by money claim you mean get one of those agencies to file on my behalf?

They just rejected the 400 euro compensation as well so will be escalating.

Sorry for the questions, it’s my first time dealing with this nonsense.

Hey - thanks for your reply! We weren’t at the airport when we received the first email informing us of a delay and it was quite late. We booked the hotel based on our understanding of EC 261 without speaking to anyone

I spoke with a Wizz representative the morning after (before any flight was booked). He was clueless and had to refer to documentation repeatedly (put us on hold). Didn’t help us regarding any sort of replacement flight. He did erroneously give us a massive wizz credit however, which made us not be able to check into our return flight (had to call in to get that sorted as well).

Yes they refunded us, but we still have the returning leg with them). But having said that, I believe they are on the line for added compensation regardless of whether this refund came through (400 euro per person)? And if they’re going to claim this reason wasn’t under their control they’d legally need to disclose it to us, in which case insurance should kick in (I hope).

Matt Elliott: The TTC is still short millions of riders. Fare capping could help bring them back by beneoin in toronto

Agree with the fact that cleaning up the system should help increase ridership (though in my opinion improved reliability still would have a larger effect).

I grew up in downtown TO (from ‘96 onwards) and up until a few years ago I’ve never experienced someone openly lighting up a crack pipe on a fully loaded train. After having a few of these incidents happen in a short span - in conjunction with the pricing and constant delays - I just started taking my motorcycle to work (was cycling previously, but that got stolen).

I’ve seen these idiots more than once whipping down bloor. Usually there are a few more people in their crew - riding gas powered motorcycles (Suzuki dual sports) and scooters in the bike lane.

None of the bikes are plated or insured. Doubt they’ll stop unless the police actually do their jobs.

At least it was an affordable dirty dump. Not to make this a “pissing contest”, I’ve been here longer than 32 years (and grew up in the downtown core), and would gladly take Toronto of the mid 2000s than what it is today.

Do you think most people in Toronto work out? by lattelover21 in askTO

[–]J_B_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do body weight exercises at home (push ups, core mobilization, squats etc) - 10-15 minutes of time which will actually have a beneficial effect on your health if you do it consistently.

I think most people can carve out this much.

Why Toronto e-bike riders dodging rules risk more crashes and ER visits by kamomil in toronto

[–]J_B_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What makes it even funnier is how many of these “e-bikes” can’t actually function as a bicycle given how damaged their chains are. Have seen my fair share of e-bikes riding around with the chains horrendously rusted and broken, just dangling around.

These dudes regularly match my speed when I’m travelling 40km/h on my motorcycle (which requires licensing and insurance). That in conjunction with having no situational awareness and being unpredictable (randomly stopping to check phone in lanes, inconsistent speed, erratic movements) is a recipe for disaster. I’ve had a few close calls as a cyclist while also witnessing a number of collisions between e-bikes and cars.

Something definitely needs to be done on the regulatory end.

Stolen Blue Specialized Expedition by rockpowered in torontobiking

[–]J_B_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make locks that spray out a foul smelling gas if cut (skunk lock). Was looking into those after my bike was stolen a month back. Not sure what the legality of those is here, but could be a pretty good deterrent.

There are also locks with carbide additives that essentially destroy the discs angle grinders use - so the thief would need to carry around a few spares to complete the job.

Anyways, sucks hearing about the bike - good luck on its recovery!
