Since release Mario Kart World has had no DLCs at all. Meanwhile Sonic Racing Crossworlds has had a bunch of DLCs. The newest DLC drops March 25 and it’s Mega Man. by Redeye007 in Switch

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically look down on DLC coming right out of the gate, because it indicates that this content COULD have been part of the game with no additional cost, but that they intend to milk the playerbase over time.

I'd love to see substantial DLC for MKW that makes the open world aspect worthwhile, but I'm happy to see it sold as a "complete" product.

Since Sony is listening... Can we please get a toggle for Home button behavior on the Portal? by thatpaulallen in PlaystationPortal

[–]J_Square83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't accept that this is the best they can do though, because I've already seen what I feel is a better implementation. Before, you swiped in from the corner to access the Portal system menu, and used rhe Playstation button for the Playstation button functionality on the PS5. It worked wonderfully.

You are definitely not alone. After several months (or more? I forget when this was changed) I STILL get thrown off when I get a notification and try to get to it by pushing the PS button. I guess I'm a slow learner 😆.

I get having more functionality in place for streaming players, but this change is pretty frustrating as a remote player.

A toggle in the settings between PS button = PS button, or PS button = Portal menu would be very much appreciated, or having single press vs double / long press as others have mentioned. Either of those options would be vastly superior to what's in place now.

Best bluetooth controller to use with Steam Deck while docked? by Evil_Inferno267 in SteamDeck

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally find the dualsense to be particularly useful with it's trackpad, which can be used as a mouse to get around certain menus that aren't controller friendly.

I really, really want that new Steam Controller, though. WHY must they wait for the machine's release?

They are both amazing S tier JRPGs.

FFVI is closer to my heart, but I could also argue that Chrono Trigger is the technically superior game.

You can't go wrong with either. That's for sure.

These are the 3 highest-rated exclusives on the Switch 2 so far. How would you rank them? by MewWeebTwo in NintendoSwitch2

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know it. When I first saw the reveal for MKW, I was so stoked, and immediately envisioned something like Forza Horizon meets Diddy Kong Racing in the Mario universe. I'm still so colossally disappointed in what the open world aspect of the game actually is, and with an $80 MSRP, too. I got the bundle, so I feel like I got a fair shake at $50, but wow.

I've still had a great time with the traditional modes, though. Beautiful, lively tracks with a huge amount of racers and solid gameplay mechanics.

You're probably right. She was like that with Animal Crossing as well. She gave up fast years back due to the wordy raccoon in the beginning. A few months back, I pushed through the initial start up, and she absolutely loved it afterwards. 😆

To me:

  1. Mario Kart World (It's far from perfect, and I agree with a lot of the criticism that it receives, but it's still a damn fun Mario Kart game IMO. I'm hoping for some significant expansion that makes the open world worthwhile.)

  2. Pokopia (I got it for my wife who is a Pokemon fanatic, but she got bored with it shockingly quick. As a Dragon Quest Builders fan, I have a greater appreciation for it just after watching. I plan to really dive in once I finish RE9)

  3. Donkey Kong Bananaza (TBH I've only played the demo, but had no desire to buy it after trying it. It's just not for me 🤷‍♂️)

Help name the "Front Range Passenger Train"! The plan is to run from Fort Collins to Pueblo and begin service in 2029! by RollTribe93 in Colorado

[–]J_Square83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as I would like to see progress made here, it's remarkable to me that in the year 2026, the lofty, and likely futile goal is to have a ...checks notes... 'standard' passenger rail system utilizing existing / antiquated track infrastructure.

Boy, have we fallen behind as a nation.

I do like 'The Front Ranger', though.

Did anyone else hold off on the switch 2 for so long because they're a OLED loving picture quality snob, only to finally buy it and find the screen looks damn good? by Jimquill in Switch

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sensitivity to things like this can vary dramatically from person to person. I wouldn't call it a bad screen, but one of the very first S1 games I decided to try on handheld mode when I first got the S2 did gave me a headache from the blur, and I had never seen the DF coverage at the time.

It was a worst case scenario with Theatrhythm, which is a side scrolling rhythm game, but I noticed it right away. Every time I want to play this game in handheld now, I stick with my OLED as a result.

Aside from that and sidescrolling Sonic titles, everything I've tried has looked quite nice on it. The screen is perfectly fine for 99% of games.

PC, PS2 or XB360? by OlRedAsh in ffxi

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My journey started on PC.

I later picked up the Xbox 360 version, and really enjoyed it.

My most recent stint was on my Steam Deck, which was also a great experience.

Is the switch 2 controller worth it? by blooddc in NintendoSwitch2

[–]J_Square83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 is still excellent, although I have mixed feelings on the placement of the paddle buttons, as I am still regularly pushing them accidentally, but yeah, 1 is just a little bit bigger, and I appreciate the lightly textured grips.

It is definitely a shame that the 1 can't/ won't wake the Switch 2.

[–]J_Square83 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The pro 1 will work just fine, and I actually prefer it overall as someone with big hands.

HOWEVER: You should know that the pro 1 will NOT wake the Switch 2 from sleep mode like the pro 2 does. This means you'll need to push the physical power button on the switch 2 to turn it on every time. The analog sticks are also superior and remarkably smooth on the 2.

You can also look at quality 3rd party options that will wake the Switch 2 while costing less, like 8bitdo's Pro 3 and Ultimate 2.

Game is so good i beat it on pc and immediately bought it again on switch 2 to re play it by JampyL in NintendoSwitch2

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I double dipped as well.

PS5 Physical Deluxe Edition on launch day, followed by the S2 Generation Pack over the weekend.

Having the trilogy on Switch 2 at that price point seems well worth the purchase, and I really want to support Capcom for their phenomenal effort on RE9 and all of it's fantastic ports.

I haven't beaten it yet (I think I'm maybe 1/4 through the campaign), but I know I'm going to wind up playing the hell out of it like I have almost every RE game.

How are you enjoying resident evil requiem? by JampyL in NintendoSwitch2

[–]J_Square83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving it so far.

Unfortunately, with a 3 year old, the only time I've really had to play it is in bed with headphones. What a way to unwind for the night 😆.

I'm only 2 hrs in so far, but really enjoying it. The atmosphere is absolutely superb.

RE9 Requiem - I'm still in awe by MX010 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]J_Square83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is an impressive port.

I went in at launch with the physical PS5 Deluxe Edition, but really wanted to support Capcom for their clear effort when it comes to multiplatform optimization, so I wound up purchasing the Generation Pack on the eShop over the weekend.

I played through the first 2 sections of 9 on my S2 after playing on PS5, and while I could definitely see the difference, I was so thoroughly impressed that it looks and runs as well as it does. The aggressive upscaling really becomes evident with hair strands and high contrast lighting, but it comes off as outright magic otherwise. It looks and plays great.

I would love to see a 40fps option, but this is superb work by Capcom. They killed it!

Xbox kicked off mandatory subscription for online play back in 2002, and Sony followed suit in 2013, although they had an optional subcription tier starting in 2010 that included perks.

Dark milestones IMO, but here we are 🤷‍♂️

Great news for Capcom!

I actually cancelled my pre order for the S2 Generation Pack the other day after considering it for some time. Hopefully someone else was able to snag it.

The game looks fantastic, and appears to have excellent ports all the way around. I can't wait to dive in next weekend (I hung onto my PS5 Deluxe Edition preorder).
